“Anny!” Fiona’s voice jerked me back to the present. “Oh… hi,” a fake smile dangling on my face.

She moved close, her hands on my shoulder, “Can I have a sit?” her eyes fixed on me.

“Yeah… sure. I mean, why not,” batting my eyelashes with each word I said. I ran my sweaty palms all over my pants.

With the look in her eyes, it was pretty obvious she was concerned about what was happening to me.

“Are you okay?” she took time. Enough time to drag each word and make them stick to my brain.

“I am not okay Fiona. I am great!” a wide smile was all over my face, and my cheeks widened to the sides, revealing my really nice dentition.

I inwardly prayed she buy the whole lie and let it slide. “Okay… just that you seemed to have zoned out. You know I was calling on you for a while, and you didn’t hear me,” she sighed heavily.

“And right now, you look like something is bothering you. Did anything happen at the party?” she inquired, “Anything that I or your father should know about?”
