Emma walked away quickly, distancing herself from Mark. She turned around to make sure Mark wasn't following, then said firmly, "Mark, don't blame me. I don't want to be with you for another minute."
She silently planned to call her best friend Nancy to come pick her up. Emma wanted to make sure Mark couldn't find her.
After a while, someone answered the phone. Emma hastily asked her friend, "Where are you?"
"I'm at the club."
The phone transmitted noise, and Emma could only hear Nancy's faint voice. "Can you come pick me up?"
"No, you're having dinner with Mark's family, right?"
Although Nancy couldn't hear Emma clearly in the loud club, she knew Emma was meeting Mark's family today.
Emma intended to explain further, but she noticed Mark searching for her in the distance. Without responding to Nancy, she quickly hung up. About 5 meters away, she saw a car with its door open. Without much thought, Emma ran towards the car and got inside.
The crucial thing now was not to let Mark see her. If he saw her, she would be obligated to stroll with him. Emma absolutely did not want that. She had lied to him about having stomach pain to leave early, not expecting Mark to wait so long and start searching for her.
"What are you doing?"
Emma was still lost in her thoughts when a warm voice echoed inside the car. She looked up, her mind went blank, and the person in front of her was David Jones. Emma was still trying to figure out how to get him to contact her again, not expecting him to appear here.
"I... I..."
Emma couldn't articulate clearly, and David frowned. He had stepped out of the club to smoke and was surprised to see a girl jumping into his car and casually closing the door.
"Miss Emma, are you following me?"
Emma looked out, and Mark was getting closer to the car. He had just noticed Emma, but in a moment of confusion, he couldn't see her anymore.
"No, I'm not."
David followed Emma's gaze and saw Mark approaching. Emma's phone rang again. She quickly took it out, thinking it was her best friend Nancy calling, but to her surprise, it was Mark calling.
Emma swiftly turned off her phone to prevent Mark from reaching her. David observed all of Emma's actions and suddenly smiled devilishly.
"Miss Emma is running away from her future husband."
Emma wanted to deny it, but if she did, David would immediately kick her out of the car.
"Yes, help me, please."
"Why?"
David remained relaxed, crossing his legs and showing no interest in her words. His face had a hint of arrogance, and Emma had to restrain the anger within her.
"I know you'll help me, right? We've met before."
They had only met a few times and weren't close, but for a beautiful girl like Emma, he couldn't refuse to help.
Mark walked up to the car door and knocked. Emma became even more anxious. David remained silent, reluctantly pulled Emma closer to him, and closed the car door. They could only see Mark's stunned face as the door shut.
"What's going on?" Mark asked.
"Young Master David, are you here too?" David stared coldly at Mark without saying anything. Emma, in David's arms, dared not even breathe loudly. She had turned off her phone, and as long as Mark left, she would be safe from his discovery.
"Why shouldn't I be here?" David's gaze was cold, and his tone was icy. Mark looked a bit confused. He had seen Emma a moment ago, but as he approached, she disappeared. There was nowhere for her to hide around, and he only saw this car, so he knocked, not expecting David, someone Mark disliked, to be inside.
"Nothing, I'm just looking for someone."
"Who do you think can get into my car?"
David's remark left Mark bewildered. David was not the type to meddle in other people's affairs.
"So, no one is in the car with you?"
Mark still spoke with suspicion, and David gave him a challenging look. "Do you want to get in my car and check?"
Upon hearing David's words, Mark finally gave up. He didn't know where Emma had gone, and he feared it would be difficult to explain to the Green family when he returned.
"No need. I won't bother you anymore."
Mark turned and left, and the car door was lifted up. David looked at Emma in his arms and couldn't help but laugh. She seemed like someone caught cheating, though she hadn't done anything wrong. Clearly, she was trying to avoid something, but David found it amusing.
"When were you planning to let go of me?" Emma, now sitting up from David's lap, was blushing. She hadn't expected David to pull her into his arms to hide from Mark. She thought he would push her away and not care.
"Thank you."
In her previous life, Emma had never been so close to a man. Now her heart was pounding, and her face was red. She sat back in her original position and reached for her bag, intending to get off the car.
"Stay here; I'll take you home."
Emma looked at David with a slightly improved opinion of him. He was indeed skilled in charming women, making them feel at ease with just a few words. However, she remained indifferent.
"No need."
"Do you want to get off and let Mark see you? He's still outside."
David looked out coldly, and Emma followed his gaze, seeing Mark still standing there, making a call, with a somewhat unpleasant expression.
"Then please, thank you."
"I've noticed we seem to have a connection. Every time, I end up helping you."
In Emma's current state, she felt a bit more favorable toward David. He was good at sweet-talking, making people feel reassured with just a few words. However, Emma remained uninterested.
Today was only their third meeting; the first time being when she was resurrected. They had collided with each other in a car accident the first time, she had taken the initiative to meet him the second time, and this time, it was purely accidental.
Emma could only smile; she had suggested David attend her wedding day to create chaos, but he had declined.
"I truly appreciate your help."
"So, have you thought about my proposal to become my woman?"
Emma recalled that night when David had suggested she become his woman, but she had no intention of doing so. A sense of awkwardness filled the air in the car, and Emma's face turned even redder. David naturally leaned closer to her.
Emma smelled the fragrance of women's perfume on David and frowned unhappily before pushing him away.
"I appreciate your help, but I have no intention of becoming your woman."
David adjusted his attire and flashed a smile.
"Let's go."
The car started moving on the road, and Emma felt a sense of confusion. She couldn't understand what David was doing. She had heard others say he wouldn't meddle in others' affairs, yet he had helped her this time.
David didn't look at Emma, closing his eyes as if resting. He knew Emma wouldn't like a person like him, deliberately doing so. He intentionally let her know that he wore women's perfume, portraying himself as a not-so-good man.
"Where are we going?"
"Taking you home."
David answered gently without opening his eyes, seeming to have something on his mind. Faced with David's odd behavior, Emma had no intention of saying more. All she needed was for David to cooperate with her in ruining the wedding and seeking revenge on Mark.
Although David was a not-so-good man who indulged in pleasure and had many girlfriends, it didn't affect Emma. Both of them were simply cooperating for mutual benefit, without any ambiguous romantic relationship.
In the nightclub, after receiving Emma's call, Nancy found her phone also turned off and unable to be restarted. She attempted to reboot it, and called Emma back, but in vain. Planning to leave the nightclub, she collided with a man."No manners, huh?"The ferocious man glared at her, and Nancy, wanting to leave quietly, restrained herself from speaking."Apologies."As Nancy took a step, the man grabbed her hand. Nancy's face lost its initial patience, and the man, upon seeing her face, became more desirous."Girl, an apology won't solve everything.""What do you want?"Nancy scornfully looked at the man before her, attempting to free her hand forcefully."What's your name? Do you want to have a drink with me?""Boring."Nancy was indifferent, and the man, angered by her response, attracted even more attention with his rude actions."You bump into me, and you act like this?"He forcefully pulled her hand, and in response, Nancy punched him in the face."You lunatic, do you want to di
A girl emerged from the restroom, her face filled with disdain. She was wearing an inexpensive outfit completely unsuitable for a modern upscale company."That girl looks terrible. Doesn't she know the standards for being the secretary of Jones Corporation?"The girls nearby had voluptuous figures, wearing stylish and extremely sexy outfits. Emma paid no attention; the girl everyone was criticizing was Emma herself.Today, Emma came to apply for the position of secretary for the CEO, David Jones. Emma had woken up very early to prepare, having met David before. So, to work at David's company, Emma needed to change her appearance.Emma wore a simple outfit, put on glasses, and tied her hair up. She looked at herself carefully in the mirror and was very pleased with it."Order, today Mr. David himself will conduct the interviews."The girls couldn't hide their excitement after hearing this; everyone quickly went to the restroom to touch up their makeup. The man who had just made the ann
Early the next morning after Emma's special visit, she arrived at the company early. In the office, David was sitting at his desk when there was a knock on the door."Come in."The man entered and handed him a folder; this man was Ren, David's longtime male assistant. They were quite familiar with each other due to their long working relationship."Director David, here are the documents you requested.""Okay, just leave it on the desk."David remained focused on his computer screen, although everyone knew him as a playboy heir, in reality, he never neglected his work.Ren placed the documents on the desk but lingered without any intention to leave, catching David's attention. He looked up with a puzzled expression, questioning Ren."Is there something?"Ren hesitated slightly under David's inquiry, his face turning downwards, unable to meet David's eyes. When Ren didn't provide a response, David impatiently asked again."So, what's the matter?""The secretary has been chosen, sir."Re
Emma was still absentmindedly staring at the papers she had doodled on when a stack of documents was placed in front of her."Director David said you have to complete this work today."Emma glanced at the stack of documents in front of her. It was clear that David was deliberately making things difficult for her, perhaps hoping she would give up the job."Alright."Emma didn't think much of it and agreed. She wasn't afraid of hard work and was determined to make David stop disliking her.Ren, who had dropped the papers on her desk, returned to his own workspace, feeling a bit puzzled as to why David was giving Emma such a hard time. He couldn't help but glance back at Emma, finding something intriguing about her."Do you think you can play hardball with me, David? Well, you're wrong."Emma tried to boost her own spirits; today, she was Laura, not Emma. Her desk faced Ren's.Emma put on her eyeglasses, took off her high heels, and began to work. It had taken some scheming to get into t
Despite her strong dislike, Emma tried to work as best as she could, as she was the only one left at the moment. Emma looked around, and seeing no one, she got up, gathered the pile of papers, and headed home, unaware that someone had been watching her all this time. When Emma reached home, she plopped onto her beloved bed. Since she agreed to interview at David's company, she had moved to a different apartment. Emma feared that her guise would be exposed, upsetting her mother.Just as she was about to get up to take a shower, her phone rang, so she quickly went to find it."Are you back from work?"The voice belonged to Roger. He had been waiting for Emma to reach out, but since she hadn’t, he decided to call her."I just got back."Emma replied without enthusiasm; she was exhausted and didn’t feel like talking to him."Can we meet?"Mark noticed Emma’s change in demeanor, but he was trying to stay in her good graces. If Emma wasn’t happy, it could spell trouble for his company.Emma
The next day, Emma was awakened by the ringing phone. She picked it up, her eyes still lazy and unfocused."Laura, could you make breakfast for Director David today?"Before Emma could reply, the caller abruptly hung up. She was about to go back to sleep when the phone rang again."Emma, about last night... did you get home safely?"This voice made her fully awake. Emma sat up, looked at the phone screen, and began to calm down."I got home on my own.""Last night... I think I drank a bit too much."Emma chuckled to herself; Mark had called her early in the morning, indicating he was quite alarmed. Emma's plan had thrown his off track."Yeah, you got pretty drunk last night. I had someone take you back to the hotel."Mark became even more worried upon hearing this. He couldn’t understand why he had gotten so drunk. He recalled not drinking that much last night. Emma knew he was very confused, so she added more detail."Don't you remember? You kept drinking bottle after bottle of wine.
"Emma, do you know how much I truly despise you? Lily is much better than you," Mark said as he plunged a sharp knife in her heart.“I truly waited for this day and for you to die,” he finished speaking, laughed loudly, and stood up, leaving Emma to embrace the knife that was slowly dripping blood out of her heart."I never loved you; it was all just a drama for everyone. You loved me, right? Then die to prove it."The atmosphere in the house was both cold and rigid, and the room was now filled with the scent of fresh blood. Emma's body was covered in wounds, and she helplessly looked at him with eyes full of disgust, regretting that she couldn't rise and stab him. Emma hated him to the core. She never expected that this marriage was initially his plan, and her love for him had vanished completely. If someone were to ask her the biggest regret of her life, Emma would not hesitate to answer: loving him and marrying a scoundrel like him."Emma, why do you look so gloomy since you came b
After bringing Nancy home, Emma found herself standing in front of the Green mansion, a place both familiar and estranged, five years ago.Unable to restrain her emotions, Emma's feelings surged as she entered the grand hall, seeing her parents' portraits, their eyes filled with tears. If it weren't for her misguided marriage to Mark in the past, her parents wouldn't have met such a tragic end. The accident that year was Mark's conspiracy, resulting in the deaths of both her father and mother. Emma, fortunately, survived, embraced by them but left with the agony she didn't want to remember or relive."Emma, weren't you supposed to be at Mount Denali, praying for Mark's happiness? Why are you back so soon?" Her mother, Mabel, asked gently.Emma struggled to hold back tears in her eyes. She approached her mother, smiling faintly, realizing that everything had changed. Emma would make Mark pay for his deeds, and the William family would soon be ruined by her hands, ensuring that no one w
