Chapter 7: I Encountered Him Again

Emma walked away quickly, distancing herself from Mark. She turned around to make sure Mark wasn't following, then said firmly, "Mark, don't blame me. I don't want to be with you for another minute."

She silently planned to call her best friend Nancy to come pick her up. Emma wanted to make sure Mark couldn't find her.

After a while, someone answered the phone. Emma hastily asked her friend, "Where are you?"

"I'm at the club."

The phone transmitted noise, and Emma could only hear Nancy's faint voice. "Can you come pick me up?"

"No, you're having dinner with Mark's family, right?"

Although Nancy couldn't hear Emma clearly in the loud club, she knew Emma was meeting Mark's family today.

Emma intended to explain further, but she noticed Mark searching for her in the distance. Without responding to Nancy, she quickly hung up. About 5 meters away, she saw a car with its door open. Without much thought, Emma ran towards the car and got inside.

The crucial thing now was not to let Mark see her. If he saw her, she would be obligated to stroll with him. Emma absolutely did not want that. She had lied to him about having stomach pain to leave early, not expecting Mark to wait so long and start searching for her.

"What are you doing?"

Emma was still lost in her thoughts when a warm voice echoed inside the car. She looked up, her mind went blank, and the person in front of her was David Jones. Emma was still trying to figure out how to get him to contact her again, not expecting him to appear here.

"I... I..."

Emma couldn't articulate clearly, and David frowned. He had stepped out of the club to smoke and was surprised to see a girl jumping into his car and casually closing the door.

"Miss Emma, are you following me?"

Emma looked out, and Mark was getting closer to the car. He had just noticed Emma, but in a moment of confusion, he couldn't see her anymore.

"No, I'm not."

David followed Emma's gaze and saw Mark approaching. Emma's phone rang again. She quickly took it out, thinking it was her best friend Nancy calling, but to her surprise, it was Mark calling.

Emma swiftly turned off her phone to prevent Mark from reaching her. David observed all of Emma's actions and suddenly smiled devilishly.

"Miss Emma is running away from her future husband."

Emma wanted to deny it, but if she did, David would immediately kick her out of the car.

"Yes, help me, please."

"Why?"

David remained relaxed, crossing his legs and showing no interest in her words. His face had a hint of arrogance, and Emma had to restrain the anger within her.

"I know you'll help me, right? We've met before."

They had only met a few times and weren't close, but for a beautiful girl like Emma, he couldn't refuse to help.

Mark walked up to the car door and knocked. Emma became even more anxious. David remained silent, reluctantly pulled Emma closer to him, and closed the car door. They could only see Mark's stunned face as the door shut.

"What's going on?" Mark asked.

"Young Master David, are you here too?" David stared coldly at Mark without saying anything. Emma, in David's arms, dared not even breathe loudly. She had turned off her phone, and as long as Mark left, she would be safe from his discovery.

"Why shouldn't I be here?" David's gaze was cold, and his tone was icy. Mark looked a bit confused. He had seen Emma a moment ago, but as he approached, she disappeared. There was nowhere for her to hide around, and he only saw this car, so he knocked, not expecting David, someone Mark disliked, to be inside.

"Nothing, I'm just looking for someone."

"Who do you think can get into my car?"

David's remark left Mark bewildered. David was not the type to meddle in other people's affairs.

"So, no one is in the car with you?"

Mark still spoke with suspicion, and David gave him a challenging look. "Do you want to get in my car and check?"

Upon hearing David's words, Mark finally gave up. He didn't know where Emma had gone, and he feared it would be difficult to explain to the Green family when he returned.

"No need. I won't bother you anymore."

Mark turned and left, and the car door was lifted up. David looked at Emma in his arms and couldn't help but laugh. She seemed like someone caught cheating, though she hadn't done anything wrong. Clearly, she was trying to avoid something, but David found it amusing.

"When were you planning to let go of me?" Emma, now sitting up from David's lap, was blushing. She hadn't expected David to pull her into his arms to hide from Mark. She thought he would push her away and not care.

"Thank you."

In her previous life, Emma had never been so close to a man. Now her heart was pounding, and her face was red. She sat back in her original position and reached for her bag, intending to get off the car.

"Stay here; I'll take you home."

Emma looked at David with a slightly improved opinion of him. He was indeed skilled in charming women, making them feel at ease with just a few words. However, she remained indifferent.

"No need."

"Do you want to get off and let Mark see you? He's still outside."

David looked out coldly, and Emma followed his gaze, seeing Mark still standing there, making a call, with a somewhat unpleasant expression.

"Then please, thank you."

"I've noticed we seem to have a connection. Every time, I end up helping you."

In Emma's current state, she felt a bit more favorable toward David. He was good at sweet-talking, making people feel reassured with just a few words. However, Emma remained uninterested.

Today was only their third meeting; the first time being when she was resurrected. They had collided with each other in a car accident the first time, she had taken the initiative to meet him the second time, and this time, it was purely accidental.

Emma could only smile; she had suggested David attend her wedding day to create chaos, but he had declined.

"I truly appreciate your help."

"So, have you thought about my proposal to become my woman?"

Emma recalled that night when David had suggested she become his woman, but she had no intention of doing so. A sense of awkwardness filled the air in the car, and Emma's face turned even redder. David naturally leaned closer to her.

Emma smelled the fragrance of women's perfume on David and frowned unhappily before pushing him away.

"I appreciate your help, but I have no intention of becoming your woman."

David adjusted his attire and flashed a smile.

"Let's go."

The car started moving on the road, and Emma felt a sense of confusion. She couldn't understand what David was doing. She had heard others say he wouldn't meddle in others' affairs, yet he had helped her this time.

David didn't look at Emma, closing his eyes as if resting. He knew Emma wouldn't like a person like him, deliberately doing so. He intentionally let her know that he wore women's perfume, portraying himself as a not-so-good man.

"Where are we going?"

"Taking you home."

David answered gently without opening his eyes, seeming to have something on his mind. Faced with David's odd behavior, Emma had no intention of saying more. All she needed was for David to cooperate with her in ruining the wedding and seeking revenge on Mark.

Although David was a not-so-good man who indulged in pleasure and had many girlfriends, it didn't affect Emma. Both of them were simply cooperating for mutual benefit, without any ambiguous romantic relationship.
