Chapter 2: Returning to the Green Family Mansion

After bringing Nancy home, Emma found herself standing in front of the Green mansion, a place both familiar and estranged, five years ago.

Unable to restrain her emotions, Emma's feelings surged as she entered the grand hall, seeing her parents' portraits, their eyes filled with tears.

If it weren't for her misguided marriage to Mark in the past, her parents wouldn't have met such a tragic end. The accident that year was Mark's conspiracy, resulting in the deaths of both her father and mother. Emma, fortunately, survived, embraced by them but left with the agony she didn't want to remember or relive.

"Emma, weren't you supposed to be at Mount Denali, praying for Mark's happiness? Why are you back so soon?" Her mother, Mabel, asked gently.

Emma struggled to hold back tears in her eyes. She approached her mother, smiling faintly, realizing that everything had changed. Emma would make Mark pay for his deeds, and the William family would soon be ruined by her hands, ensuring that no one would touch her Wilson family again.

"Why are your eyes so red?"

"Just dust in my eyes, Mom." Emma replied, her mother tenderly stroking her hair with concern.

"When the William family called earlier, they wanted to schedule a meeting to discuss the wedding details..."

Before her mother could finish, Emma took a deep breath and finally spoke firmly.

"Mom, I want to cancel the engagement with Mark William."

"What?" The shocking statement left both sets of parents astonished, and Emma's father, who was reading a newspaper nearby, also lowered it to look at her.

"Arguing with Mark," Emma persisted, knowing her parents would find it hard to accept. If it weren't for reliving the past, Emma wouldn't have known the extent of the William family's cunning. Both families were close before; Emma's grandfather had promised her hand to Mark, making her grow up with the sole desire to marry him. But now, everything had changed, and looking back, she realized how foolish she had been.

"Mark is not a good person; he is marrying me just to take our family fortune. I have truly seen through him and the William family." Seeing her parents' incredulous and astonished looks, she added, "I can't prove it now, but give me a little more time, and I will make you believe."

Both parents looked at their daughter, suddenly so determined, and the atmosphere grew tense. Mount Denali was sacred, but it couldn't change a person's nature in an instant. Emma had always been obedient and never gave her parents any reason to worry. The engagement between the two families wasn't forced; Emma had willingly accepted it. But now, why was she saying such things out of the blue?

"Father, you know my character; everything I do has a reason. I know this arranged marriage would benefit both sides, but I cannot marry Mark."

"Alright, Father naturally believes in you," he finally replied.

He felt no need to coerce her anymore, but according to what she said, it was true that the Green family would suffer considerable losses after this failed marriage.

"Father, I'm not forcing you; it's just that this marriage won't end well for either of us." Emma was well aware of this. The wedding had been planned for a long time, and the media had already reported it as the wedding of the century for the talented and beautiful couple. Emma's face remained expressionless.

"It won't be so. The only one suffering from the canceled engagement will be the William family."

Emma's father always respected her opinions; if she didn't want it, he wouldn't force her into a marriage, no matter how much loss they might incur. But when Emma asserted this, he felt that she was a bit different from her usual gentle and kind self.

"Rest assured, Father. Two months from now, the only ones feeling shame will be the William family."

As both parents looked at each other and then at their determined daughter, they reluctantly compromised. After all, as long as she was happy, both of them would support her.

"Alright, go ahead as you wish. Tomorrow, we'll go to meet them."

"No need, Dad. I want to go on the day of the wedding to call it off."

"Do you really think so?"

"Yes, for now, just act like nothing happened, Mom and Dad."

"Understood."

Though somewhat puzzled, both parents were persuaded by her determined stance to go along with it as if nothing had happened.

Back in her room, lying on the large bed she had slept on before, Emma reminisced about the past. Every detail and scene played in her mind like a slow-motion film.

Emma turned her gaze to the business card in her pocket. Before leaving David Jones, she hadn't forgotten to give him her card.

David! What kind of person is he? Seeking revenge against Mark with him, is it the right choice? But beyond him, no one else can stand up to that cunning Mark.

The man named David intrigued her, and in her previous life, just before Mark killed her, he left her with a cryptic statement: "The secret of the Jones family is related to the Green family. It's a pity you can't find it." This statement was the reason she approached David Jones in this life, wanting to both use him for revenge and uncover that secret.

On the night before her wedding day, David had called her, wanting to say something, but he had remained silent in the end. In their previous lives, they had only met at high-society parties of the aristocracy, but he unexpectedly called her that night, and she still didn't understand the reason.

In her previous life, after marrying Mark, Emma withdrew to become his support, only to find out that Mark, along with his close friend from university, was having an affair and had taken all their family fortune. He then imprisoned, beat, and ultimately killed her before setting the house on fire, claiming it was just an accident.
