Chapter 9: The First Day of Job Hunting

A girl emerged from the restroom, her face filled with disdain. She was wearing an inexpensive outfit completely unsuitable for a modern upscale company.

"That girl looks terrible. Doesn't she know the standards for being the secretary of Jones Corporation?"

The girls nearby had voluptuous figures, wearing stylish and extremely sexy outfits. Emma paid no attention; the girl everyone was criticizing was Emma herself.

Today, Emma came to apply for the position of secretary for the CEO, David Jones. Emma had woken up very early to prepare, having met David before. So, to work at David's company, Emma needed to change her appearance.

Emma wore a simple outfit, put on glasses, and tied her hair up. She looked at herself carefully in the mirror and was very pleased with it.

"Order, today Mr. David himself will conduct the interviews."

The girls couldn't hide their excitement after hearing this; everyone quickly went to the restroom to touch up their makeup.

The man who had just made the announcement glanced around, then immediately noticed Emma.

"Miss, are you in the wrong place?"

Emma was still looking at her phone when the man approached and spoke.

"I'm here to apply for the secretary position."

"Have you read the requirements?"

Emma remained calm, looking at him before replying. After seeing Emma's face, he advised her.

"We're hiring secretaries with beautiful figures and faces here."

Emma felt disdain; David always liked girls like this. Whether he was hiring a secretary or a lover, she wasn't sure anymore.

"I know, I have the ability. I confidently apply; you don't need to worry."

Facing Emma's resolute words and gaze, the man could only shake his head in resignation and leave. Emma wanted to change her appearance when applying here because she was afraid David would recognize her, and secondly, she didn't want David to flirt with her. He would treat her like any other girl to tease.

"So it's up to you."

One by one, the girls went in and out. Whether they were chosen or not, they all laughed and enthusiastically discussed Director David.

"He's really handsome."

"That's right, I never thought I'd get to meet him."

"He even smiled at me."

The girls chatted around, and Emma heard it all. She had no interest in it. She came to this company with a purpose. As each girl went in for the interview, only Emma remained in her seat.

"Miss Laura, please come in."

Hearing this name, Emma quickly stood up. By now, everyone had left, and she was the last one.

"Yes, thank you."

Emma deliberately changed her name to Laura to avoid being recognized.

When she entered the room, she saw three men sitting across from her.

"Hello, I'm Laura."

The man in the middle, who was looking at his phone, was David. He didn't seem interested.

"Miss Laura, have you seen our secretary selection criteria?"

"I have."

The two men beside David glanced at him for his consideration. Emma's resume was very good; she had work experience and excellent academic qualifications.

"We require appearance."

"I know. If beauty is only for looks, I can assist with the work."

David laughed out loud at this. Then he put down his phone and took Emma's resume.

"I see you've studied abroad."

"That's right."

David stared at Emma, making her feel a bit uncomfortable.

"Your dress style doesn't seem like someone who studied abroad."

"My dress style is my preference. Aren't you hiring a secretary to work for you?"

David was indeed taken aback. He usually hired attractive secretaries. Essentially, they didn't have to do anything except come here every day and take care of him.

"Miss Laura, you're very confident."

"That's right."

David looked at Emma for a while, then put her resume down. He didn't care and started typing on his phone. David was extremely dissatisfied; he wanted to hire competent people, but he only wanted to recruit beautiful girls into the company.

David's secretaries often changed frequently because they either lacked competence or because David's father personally fired them. The two men beside David understood this and nodded before turning to speak to Emma.

"Thank you. You can leave now. We will contact you later."

"Thank you."

Emma stood up without hesitation. She was very confident now. She already had a plan in mind when she came here; she knew David wouldn't accept an ugly girl like Laura.

"Get rid of this girl Laura, she doesn't fit our criteria," David said as he stood up, adjusting his vest and walking away. David, the playboy heir, was known for his extravagant lifestyle, so even choosing a secretary required beauty. He had no interest in such selection processes. David had only come here today because of some business, but no one had impressed him.

David didn't know why the girl Laura had the confidence to apply here; he just found her somewhat familiar-looking.

Emma, after leaving the interview room, couldn't help but smile satisfactorily.

"David, we'll meet again soon," she said.

Despite being a notorious womanizer surrounded by beautiful women, it didn't affect her. David didn't like ugly girls, which worked in her favor. Emma wouldn't be on his radar for teasing. That evening, after she finished showering, she received a notification that she had been hired as David's secretary.

David still has no idea what has happened; he's currently at a nightclub with friends. But tomorrow, when David shows up at the office, he will be surprised to see Laura, the unattractive girl he didn't choose, as his secretary. This is because earlier, Emma took on the name Laura, successfully becoming the secretary. She disguised her unattractive face with makeup and wore thick glasses, along with long hair covering her eyes, making it impossible for anyone to recognize her as Emma.

This is just a part of Emma's plan. Faced with the danger posed by Mark, Emma cannot go it alone; she needs an ally, and that person is David. He is the perfect choice to help Emma seek revenge.
