The Beginning!

In a dimly lit room, the constant buzzing made by a broken screen phone caused a figure to sit up on her bed.

Natasha squinted her eyes tightly when the bright light from her phone swarmed into her eyes before she reduced the brightness.

She had 73 missed calls. 50 from her mother, or rather, the woman who rescued her... So it was. And 23 from her foster father.

Her shift at the restaurant had extended till 7am, which was three hours ago. And after working for 27 hours, Natasha thought she'd be able to get a few hours of sleep before resuming work by 4pm.

'Don't be ungrateful and get yourself here right now! The doctor said he needs two and a half pint of blood from you.'

'Hurry here, I don't think Tricia can wait any longer. I won't forgive you if anything happens to her'

Natasha's attention shifted to the two texts her foster mother sent, then flung her phone beside her.

.

.

Although she was still a child, Natasha knew she wasn't safe with the people who she and a bunch of other kids grew up with.

Every day, one of her friends ended up dead and would be buried at the corn field at the back of where they lived. While on rare cases, they'd be visited by a couple looking to adopt a child. This happened once in a blue moon, so every child waited for their turn to die.

So when a particular couple showed up claiming they were in search of a healthy child who'd be a playmate for their daughter, all healthy children were shown to them before they finally settled for Natasha. She considered herself lucky to leave there but made promise to rescue the other kids.

The couple, Anne Ruiz and Geoffrey Chaucer, turned out to be a second tier family, which meant they could afford numerous luxurious things.

At first, they showered Natasha with love, giving her numerous supplements to take saying it helped the heart pump more blood and kept her healthy.

Natasha was so touched that they cared about her, so she'd often take anything they give her. Most times more than they asked her to. That was until they began taking her to the hospital for her blood to be drained.

It took her 17 years to realize Anne and Geoffrey didn't care about her. In fact, she wasn't taken in because they were looking for a healthy playmate for their daughter. They visited because they couldn't find anyone who had an O positive blood group.

So when they found a child with it, they decided to pay hundred times lower than the amount they'd pay for a pint of blood to adopt her. That way, they now had an endless supply of O positive blood. It was then she knew the hell she lived in was no ordinary orphanage.

Natasha got up, changed into casual clothes and walked out of the house with her messy ponytail.

"What the hell took you so long?!" Anne, a woman who seemed to be in her early fifties, yelled as soon as she saw Natasha walk into the ward. She wore expensive dress with full make up. She had jewelry on every of her finger and her hair was curly, making her look younger, even if she was an old ass.

Natasha bit down on her lower lip and looked down. This action wasn't caused by fear, but by Anne's order not to look at her whenever she was talking.

"Forgive me" Natasha subtly apologized.

Her gentle voice aggravated Anne's anger even more that she took quick strides towards Natasha and slapped her hand across the face.

Anne's five fingers quickly appeared on Natasha's face, but the latter didn't wince or murmur. Instead, she apologized again in the same gentle voice, "Forgive me."

Anne was about to hit her again when Geoffrey appeared with the doctor. "That's enough Anne. Emily's life is all that matters right now."

Anne huffed and walked back to her daughter's side. She held Emily's hand and smiled gently, "You'll be fine, baby. I promise you."

Emily smiled faintly, also doing away with the hatred she bore towards Natasha. "I know that, Mom."

Natasha was led out by the doctor who took her to another room where a nurse drew out the required pint of blood.

"Be sure to get supplements before you leave." The nurse said, her voice tinged with pity.

Natasha was too weak to open her eyes, so she just nodded.

"I'll get some ice for your face." The nurse added and left.

Natasha remained that way for a long time before she heard the door open again.

"The pints aren't enough. We need two more." Anne's voice caused her eyes to fly open.

"Two pints? The human body can only produce four pints of blood" Natasha said, resisting the urge to frown. She has to be respectful to the heir of the Chaucer company and also not to get on her bad side.

"I pay you to donate these bloods, Natasha. You earn more from me than the slutty job you do. You should be grateful!" Anne responded with a raised voice, turned and walked out of the room.

The nurse walked into the ward again with a pack of ice, supplements and two new blood bags. "You should take these first."

Natasha nodded and took the supplements. After she was done, the nurse took the two pints of blood. After the donation, Natasha was left feeling dizzy.

Just then, her phone vibrated in her pocket and she took it out to see it was her manager from her place of work.

"Mr. David?"

"Natasha, Bellamy A. Brooke is here and he doesn't want to get served by anyone other than you. Please get here as soon as possible." The man's voice came off excited.

"Mr. David, I left work four hours ago. My shift isn't until in six hours." Natasha said in exhaustion.

"You'll get an additional four hundred dollars paid to you by the end of today, Natasha. Mr. Brooke is a good tipper, so I believe you'll earn even more if you make it to work today."

It took Natasha ten seconds to decline. "I'll like to pass on this, Mr. David."

But then his voice got serious, "You have twenty minutes to get here, Natasha. Or I'll make it impossible for you to get another job after I've fired you."

Natasha gritted her teeth angrily, "I'll be right there."

As soon as she got off the call, she glanced down at her phone to see Anne had sent the promised money.

She got up, but held onto the wall as the dizziness almost threw her down. She stayed that way for three minutes before she felt fine again.

Natasha took more of the supplements before heading over to Emily's ward. She knocked twice before she heard Anne's approval to enter.

"My work called. Can I leave now?" She requested. Anne waved her hand without looking at her.

"Why are you going now? Isn't your work supposed to be in six hours?" Emily asked just before Natasha turn to leave.

"My manager said a customer is refusing to let the others tend to him. He's requesting for me." Natasha replied sincerely.

"A customer? Are you sleeping with him for money?" Emily spat out, causing Anne and Geoffrey to glare at Natasha.

"No, of course not!" Natasha quickly shook her head, "Bellamy A. Brooke has a wife, but even if he doesn't, I wouldn't dare!"

"Bellamy A. Brooke is the customer who specifically requests for you? How many times has he been requesting for you?" Emily lashed out, trying to sit up, but was pinned down to the bed by Anne.

"Don't waste your energy on her, Emily. I'm sure whatever is going on isn't what you think." Anne said consoling, knowing how much her daughter loved Bellamy A. Brooke.

Natasha wasn't a stranger to Emily's feeling to the multi-billionaire, but she didn't think it'd increase Emily's hostility towards her.

But if Emily's hostility towards her increased hearing the man personally requested that she serve him, then she'd kill her once she found out he often held her hand and kissed her when there was no one in sight.
