Chapter 3

Author: Yes to Tacos
Jason's face instantly turned ashen.

Trivial things? To him, that was the major event that had decided my fate.

This made him feel far worse than any insult I could have hurled at him.

He gritted his teeth and said bitterly, "Stop playing dumb! Don't you hold a grudge against me because I prevented the Hortons from adopting you back then? And now, you're looking for a chance to get revenge on Willow and me!"

I finally couldn't hold back and burst out laughing. "Mr. Fuller, aren't you being a little too full of yourself?"

I dropped my smile as my gaze turned cold. "Get revenge on you? Are you even worth it?

"Speaking of which, I have to thank you. If you hadn't been so determined to stop it back then, I wouldn't ever have gotten the chance to become the granddaughter of Peter Stewart. Neither would I have achieved everything I have today.

"So why would I hate you? If anything, I should be thanking you."

I spoke casually, yet each word was like a knife, viciously stabbing into Jason's heart.

He was left speechless, his face shifting between embarrassment and anger. "Peter Stewart? Stop talking nonsense!"

He immediately added mockingly, "You think just because your last name is Stewart, you're related to Peter Stewart?

"Stop dreaming. Someone like you could never become part of the Stewarts!"

The moment he finished speaking, a black Bentley silently pulled up beside us. The car door opened, and a dignified-looking man stepped out.

He strode quickly to my side and casually draped a coat over my shoulders. He didn't even glance at Jason.

He just gently ruffled my hair and asked, "Quinn, why haven't you left yet? Grandpa is getting anxious waiting for us."

Only then did his gaze fall on Jason.

"Quinn, who's this?" he questioned.

Taking Timothy's arm, I smiled brightly. "No one. He's only a patient who came in today. We were just chatting for a bit."

Jason was completely rooted to the spot. He stared in disbelief at the familiar way Timothy and I interacted, then glanced at the luxury car, which clearly signaled the family's status.

He wasn't stupid. Of course he recognized the heir of Stewart Group, Timothy Stewart.

He was also aware that Timothy had a younger sister whom the entire Stewart family cherished.

However, he never could have dreamed that I was that very sister.

His mind involuntarily drifted back to that girl from his previous life, the one who always followed behind him and shyly called his name.

And now, that same girl was smiling sweetly as she linked her arm through another man's.

While he stood there in a daze, I had already gotten into Timothy's car.

The next day, Alicia told me that Jason had once again scheduled a specialist consultation with me.

While helping me organize my files, she grumbled, "Dr. Stewart, is something wrong with Jason? Yesterday, he acted like he didn't trust you at all. But today, he's eagerly coming back again.

"He probably found out you're a Stewart and is trying to ride your coattails."

I only smiled and said nothing, then signed my name on the appointment request.

I wanted to see what kind of act he planned to put on this time.

The venue had fallen into utter chaos.Jason continued to hold me tightly in his arms. I could distinctly smell the blood and the scent of burned flesh coming from him.My mind went blank. I never imagined that he would use his own body to shield me from the attack."You… Why?" I heard myself ask, my voice hoarse and trembling.Jason leaned against my shoulder, panting heavily. He used every last bit of strength he had to utter in my ear, "Quinn, this is what I owe you… In our past life, I owed you a life. This time, I'm returning it to you…"After speaking, his body went limp, and he lost consciousness. The ambulance soon arrived, and Jason was rushed to the hospital. One day, I had just stepped out of the lab when I got a call from Timothy."Quinn, there's a charity gala tonight. Grandpa wants you to represent the family. The dress has already been delivered to your apartment.""Alright, I got it," I replied.I had never cared much for business functions like these, but I would never refuse one of Grandpa's requests. That evening, I changed into a custom-made gown and put on light makeup, then headed out. I arrived at the gala right on time.As the representative of the Stewart family, I became the center of attention as soon as I appeared.Countless people came up to greet me and make conversation. I handled the small talk with ease, wearing a polite but distant smile.Just as I was chatting with a business tycoon, Willow appeared before me. She was wearing a cheap dress that looked completely out of place at the event, and her hair was disheveled. Her whole appearance was utterly miserable.I wasn't sure how she had managed to sneak in.

Jason began to speak. "In our past life, I was the one who hurt you. I never should have treated you like that. I shouldn't have believed Willow's lies and misunderstood you. I shouldn't have stood by and done nothing when you were driven out of the house."I know that no matter how many times I apologize, it's useless. I can't even begin to make up for the pain you went through."I just wanted to tell you that… I regret it."He continued, "After you died, there wasn't a single day when I didn't live with the regret. I searched every place you might have gone, but in the end, all I found were your remains."Only then did I understand that I had killed my actual fiancee with my own hands."I listened to him quietly until he finished. Then I smiled softly. "Jason, do you know something? Your regrets are worth nothing to me."As I watched the color drain from his face, I told him a truth he might never have wanted to know."Actually, the Willow in our past life didn't die because h

Jason stiffly picked up that sheet of paper and looked at the data, then at Willow beside him, her face extremely ashen. He had never imagined that Willow—the one he had cherished, protected, and even hurt his real fiancee for—had been deceiving him from beginning to end.She had deceived all of them."Why?" Jason's voice was dry and hoarse. He looked at Willow, his eyes filled with deep disappointment and pain. "Willow, why did you do this?"Mila clutched her chest, heartbroken as she said, "Yeah, Willow! Why did you fake being sick to deceive us?"Pushed to the edge, Willow finally broke down. She burst into hysterical sobs."Why? Because I was afraid! I was afraid that once you found your real daughter, you wouldn't want me anymore. I was afraid you'd give all your love to someone else!"She cried heartwrenchingly as she pointed at me, then at Jason. "I just wanted her to stay far away from us! What did I do wrong?"In my past life, her "illness" had caused me to be hated b

The air instantly went still. Everyone from the Hortons, along with Jason, froze in shock.Jason was the first to react. As if I had just told him the most ridiculous joke, he jabbed a finger at me and roared, "What the hell are you talking about?"Willow has been sickly for years. Every major hospital diagnosed her with chronic kidney failure, and you're saying she isn't sick?"Quinn, you're nothing but a fraud fishing for fame!"George and Mila finally recovered from their initial despair, then looked at me with anger and a sense of betrayal."Doctor, we came because we trusted you! How can you make such reckless claims?""That's right! You owe us an explanation!"Only Willow went deathly pale the moment she heard me say she wasn't sick. Her grip instinctively tightened around Jason's arm.I let out a cold laugh, looking around at their self-righteous, indignant expressions. "I'm making reckless claims?"I turned my gaze to Jason and said, "Mr. Fuller, your fiancee does have
