Sharon stared, convinced that she hadn't heard her clearly. The beating she had received had obviously damaged her hearing.

"I am sorry my Luna." Gaia said softly, "I know it hurts to hear it, but Mona Wales is now living with the Alpha. She moved in a day after your arrest."

Sharon felt as if someone had plunged a knife into her own chest, like she was being accused of doing to the Agba Luna.

Mona! Her best friend? The woman who's son she had cured of the meningitis that threatened to kill him? How could she do this to her? And Alpha Jerry, the man who claimed to love her and called her the best thing that ever happened to him. Had he forgotten about that love so soon?

"That's not possible. Why would the Alpha move another woman, especially my best friend, in so quickly. He loves me." Sharon said aloud in her despair.

Gaia looked uncomfortable and Sharon guessed she knew the answer.

"Gaia," she said, her voice trembling. "Is there more you are not telling me?"

Gaia nodded sadly. "Luna I don't want to break your heart but you need to know. On the day of your arrest I overhead Beta Frank telling Mona that this was the time to move in. That the evidence against you was overwhelming and you were not going to escape your punishment, so she should hurry and secure the Luna spot. He said that it would be easier for her because," she hesitated. "Because Kyle was the Alpha's son."

"What!" Sharon yelled as loudly as she could. Thankfully her voice was so weak it couldn't rise very high.

"Not so loud my Luna." Gaia said fearfully glancing at the door.

"This dosen't make sense. How can Kyle be the Alphs son? Mona had said she had been impregnated by a wolf she didn't know after a drunken one night stand." Sharon asked, her head threatening to explode in confusion.

"She obvious lied Luna." Gaia said firmly.

Suddenly it all made sense. "Obviously she has something to do with the Agba Luna death. It makes sense. Her father is the pack Beta, he is the one supervising my torture. This is all his plan to get rid of me and have his daughter take my place." Sharon said aloud.

"You may be right Luna. Beta Frank could be the killer. But the Alpha would never believe us if we told him." Gaia began gathering the plates and water bottle. "I have to go now my Luna, although I hate leaving you like this. Now that we know who framed you is there anything more I can do to help you regain your freedom?"

Sharon thought quickly. "Aside from you, who else is on my side in the palace?"

"Alpha Jerry's sister, Gamma Judy. She is your strongest supporter. She has been raising hell since your arrest. She insists you didn't kill the Agba Luna and wants you released."

"Then we need her. "Sharon said urgently. "Get a message to her, but don't sign your name and don't speak to her directly, it's too risky. Instead leave a note in her room telling her I have discovered who the real killer is and I need to speak to her. Can you do that?"

"I am not her maid so getting to her room will be difficult. " Gaia said in a worried tone. "But if it will help free you, I will do it."

"Thank you Gaia. If I get out of here I must reward you."

"I don't need a reward my Luna," she said, shaking her head. "You already saved my mother's life. And you have always treated us with kindness and respect. It is a shame others have forgotten." She said sadly.

"Don't worry about it. Just get a message to Judy as quickly as you can."

"Yes my Luna."

She kissed her broken fingers as a sign of respect and hurried out. Alone, Sharon let her head rest back against the wall. The pain in her body throbbed with every breath, but her mind was racing.

Mona had slept with her husband and bore his child? She still couldn't believe it. She was like a sister to her. They had grown up together and Sharon always protected her from bullies mocking her because she was a late bloomer.

They had shared meals, dreams, and laughter. Both of them had apprenticed under the same healer. But while Sharon had excelled and become one of the most popular healer in the land, Mona had been dismissed after a month for incompetence.

Still, Sharon made sure the difference never affected thier friendship. When she had married Jerry Mona had been her maid of honor, and was a regular vistor to the palace until she came crying to her one day that she was pregnant.

"It was a stupid drunken one night stand! I don't know who the father is! " She cried. "My dad has ordered me out of the house so I won't bring shame to our family."

"He should temper justice with mercy, we all make mistakes." Sharon said trying to soothe her. "Let me talk to him."

"No. His mind is made up. I have to leave."

"Where will you go? How will you cope alone and pregnant?"

"I will probably die, which is a good end to my miserable life." She said, tears rolling down her cheeks."

"You won't." Sharon had smiled. "Move into the palace, there is enough room. I will give you a job as the palace store keeper. It's easy work and you get to live here. Also no one will call you names because your child dosen't have a father."

Mona had hugged her, brimming with gratitude. Sharon had helped her deliver Kyle and cured him of life threatening meningitis. When the former Beta died and Jerry was looking for a new one, Sharon had insisted he pick Mona's father.

"Why bring in someone new when you have a fearless, loyal man here who can serve you as Beta?" She had asked.

Thinking of those words she smiled bitterly. Loyal my foot!

After all she had done for Mona, her father, and that ungrateful pack, this was her reward. Betrayal, torture, and humiliation.

Tears filled her eyes but she blinked them back. Thanks to Gaia she now knew who hee enemies were and they would regret plunging this knife into her back.

The door open and Beta Frank and the Omega walked in. The sight of them made her so angry she couldn't even feel the pain of her wounds.

"Are you ready to confess Sharon?" Frank asked.

It won't be long now you snake. She thought.

"I have nothing to say to you. I am innocent!" She said firmly.

Frank's expression darkened. He gave a short nod to the Omega, who raised his whip and came towards her.

There was dead silence. “What is wrong with all of you? Why must our meetings always end in chaos?” She demanded. “Apologies your highness,” Dold said quickly. “But lady Lara is the instigator.” “No I’m not. I’m just making an argument-“ Lara began. “Argument just for the sake of it, as you always do. Just to cause confusion.” Hane snapped. “I said enough!” Reyna thundered. “Even my little Hira won’t behave this way.” She turned to her sister. “You are out of line Lady Lara. Apologize at once!” “I am sorry Lord Dold.” She muttered. One day I will make you sorry you stupid old vulture. She thought. “I too am sorry for my conduct.” Dold said sincerely. “Good. In case you all have forgotten we are here to debate something serious. Should we or shouldn’t we hand over our relic?” “I think we should.” Dold said. “Me too.” Hane agreed. “It’s the only thing to stop this creature.” Marge added. The others nodded. “I still think it’s a bad idea.” Lara insisted. “I ag

  • Reborn For Vengance   The Hex Council

The Hex Council of Hexvale consisted of twelve witches and wizards who served as both lawmakers and advisers to Queen Reyna. Aside from Prince Hane, the Prince Consort, and Lady Lara, the Queen’s sister, the remaining ten council seats were filled through an ancient rite known as the Initiation. Hexvale was divided into ten great clans, and each clan had one ruling family entrusted with the right to present candidates for the Council. When a seat from a clan became vacant, the eligible members of that ruling family would gathered in the Hall of Shadows to undergo the Initiation. During the ritual each candidate pricked their finger and let a single drop of blood fall into the Witch’s Cauldron, that held only a small pool of clear enchanted water. The person whose drop caused the water to turn bright pink was the one chosen by the magic of Hexvale. That individual became the clan’s representative on the Hex Council, sworn to serve until death or resignation. Council member could not be

“I wish you would stay the night.” Kip murmured snuggling against her naked chest. She smiled, gently stroking his hair. “I can’t. Lady Elena needs me to settle her into bed. I’m only here because she is with lord Dusk.”Kip grimaced. He hated Dusk and all vampires, but not Elena. She was different. Sweet and kind to all the servants.“Come back when you have put her to bed.” He suggested. “Please. I want you here with me.”Drianna considered it. It wasn’t a bad idea, but she couldn’t. She had other plans tonight. Plans to drop more poison into Dusk’s ear.“I want to my love, but I can’t. Lady Elena needs me.” She said softly.“But when she is asleep she won’t need your service anymore.” He argued.“She might.” Drianna lied smoothly. “Sometimes she wakes in the night and calls for me. If I’m not there, the guards will tell her beastly husband and I will be in big trouble.”“I wish there was a way for us to escape and be free from this cursed people.” Kip said bitterly.“Soon my love.

  • Reborn For Vengance   The Truth That Burns

Drianna was waiting in the solar when Elena came in breathless and fidgeting.“My Lady are you alright?” Drianna asked taking her cloak.“Yes. Did my husband ask after me?” Elena asked anxiously. How should I know? Drianna thought mentally rolling her eyes. She had left immediately after Elena, and was only just getting back. Though She knew Dusk had been in a meeting with his generals all morning, so it was doubtful he had asked for his wife.“No my lady. He didn’t.” She said.“Good. Please you will keep this between us, agreed?”“Yes my lady. Let me get you ready for dinner.”“Later. I need to rest first.”Drianna bowed and withdrew. Elena sank into a chair, multiple feelings fighting inside her. Nostalgia at seeing an old friend, Pride that once again she would be instrumental in bringing peace to all the kingdoms, but also worry. If Dusk found out she’d secretly met with a wolf he’d be furious. Maybe she should tell him? But why stir up trouble when he would never find out? No

Elena stared at him. Not sure whether to help or run away. “Lena! Where are you?” Ryon called impatiently. “Here. Come quick!” Moments later he was standing besides her. “Who is this?” He asked wide eyed, staring at the wondered wolf. “I don’t know but he's hurt. We have to help him.” She said going nearer. “No! He is a probably a spy. We should alert a guard.” “And have him executed? No. We will get him to the healer to treat his wounds.” “Are you insane! He is an enemy soldier. That would be treason.” He’s only our enemy because war says he is. Mercy can make him our ally." She said firmly.Ryon groaned. “And what in Goddess name are we going to tell the healer?”“Healers are neutral. They won’t ask questions. Now help me lift him.” “This is a bad idea Lena. I know you have a kind heart, but if word gets out we helped an enemy soldier, being the lord and lady of Crimora won’t help us. Besides, he may not be wounded. It may all be a trap to sneak a spy in to destroy

  • Reborn For Vengance   Stranger In The Woods

Ten years ago.... Elena giggled as she watched her brother Ryon miss his target again. “Not funny.” Ryon scowled lowering his bow.. “Sorry, but this is the thirtieth time you have missed." She teased. “You are supposed to be encouraging me, not counting my failures.” He grumbled. “Agreeing to your risky idea of sneaking out is already encouragement enough.” She said brushing leaves from her gown. “You worry too much. We are safe here.” “Have you forgotten the reports of Wolf spies being around the kingdom?” She reminded him. “That’s rumors. Those cowards won’t come nesr Vampirehaven.” Ryon said confidently. The siblings were alone at the edge of the city. They had snuck out the palace so Ryon could practice without his trainers breathing down his neck. Elena hadn’t liked the idea of sneaking out, especially at a time like this, but her brother had insisted. And after begging and pleading, their guardian Fay, had reluctantly agreed to help them get past the guards, on
