Eva's POV

“What is it?” I glare at her, yelling in her annoyance.

She steps back in shock, noticeably unsettled. I've never glared at her before much more yell.

“Mum says we are running late.”

“For?”

She gives me a weird look that clearly says she wonders if I'm going crazy. “The dinner with the Whitpress. You got engaged to him last night, remember?”

I sit up in shock realizing I didn't go back to the night I found my fiance cheating on me with my twin sister but rather to a year before.

“Eva,” Mum shouts, barging into my room.

I narrow my eyes at her appearance. Mum has an habit of dressing as if royalty will pay her an unannounced visit but her dress at the moment is over the top.

If my memory serves me right, I remember we both didn't sleep the night Tony proposed, staring at the engagement ring in delight.

“You aren't dressed yet?” She scowls, her eyes flicking around to see the dress I've not yet picked.

“I will be out soon.” I sigh, sliding out of bed.

Too bad I can't cancel the engagement as it means a lot to my family. Dad needs it to get his business back on track and to afford my younger sister's piling medical fees.

Mum gasps as I walk out of my bedroom, her mouth falling wide open. Her eyes mist with tears and her voice shakes. “What is wrong with you?”

Death and quest for revenge.

Eve steps out before I'm forced to give a response I don't have. “Mum?” She smiles, twirling for attention.

Mum smiles at her. “Perfect, dear. You look better than someone.”

I ignore the jab.

Eve glances at me. “I think she looks good though.”

I scoff. Of course, she does. Why won't she when she has an opportunity to outshine me? I always wore the best of my dresses to the Whitpress’ house so it's not a mystery mum thinks I'm running mad.

“Welcome, dears.” Melinda greets us at the door, pulling us into an embrace one by one. “Tony is in his bedroom.” She whispers as she pulls me in.

“Okay, ma.” I say, knowing I have no intention to work on that information.

I see someone walk out from the house through the back door and go still. I don't intend to deal with Tony yet.

“Move, girl.” Mum hisses at me. She notices the object of my gaze. “Don't you dare give that boy a second glance.” She warns.

I can't help myself. “Who is he?”

Mum scowls and doesn't seem ready to talk. We are the only ones left outside and she sighs as she realizes I don't intend to move till she answers me.

“We need to have a discussion when we get home, girl. I don't like this sudden nasty attitude of yours.”

“Who is the boy, mum?”

I can't believe I liked Tony for years and had no idea he had a twin. I glance again at the boy; the most well-kept secret in the universe.

“Eva, look away.” Mum warns. “That is Tony's half-brother and the perfect way to get on Melinda's bad side so don't you ever look at him again.”

Oh! Confident Melinda has a secret that hurts her after all.

I've always thought Tony was an only child and the heir to Whitpress' fortune.

I wish I know the mystery boy’s name but mum won't talk. She holds me by the hand and pulls me inside, flashing me a warning gaze.

Too bad, mum. I can't promise you that. I've seen the perfect way to get back at Tony and his mum for making me miserable.

I had thought my only goal was to prevent Eve from being with Tony and helping Dad's business bloom again. The third goal is to help mystery boy stop being a secret and help him inherit everything Tony thinks it's his, everything till the last penny.

Let's see how the Whitpress heir deals with being penniless.

“My love,” Tony grins and walks toward me as I step inside.

I smile, doing my best not to cringe as everyone smiles as he pulls me into a hug.
