Sofia.

I had been trying to convince myself that Victoria's pregnancy was fine. That it was fine my husband was having a child with someone else. But the truth was, it still gutted me.

I kept telling myself it would be okay that once she gave birth and left, things would go back to normal with Ethan, except nothing felt normal anymore.

There was this odd feeling in my chest, like something didn't add up. I couldn't explain it, but every time I tried to push it aside, it crept back in. I attempted to focus on my duties as Luna, but even that couldn't distract me from the sense that I was missing something obvious.

"Just focus," I muttered to myself, forcing my attention back to the stacks of paperwork in front of me. But focus was harder than it should have been.

I overheard the maids talking as I passed them in the hallway. Their voices dropped to whispers, but I caught enough.

"She has no idea," one of them said.

"There's going to be a new Luna. Everyone knows it."

I stopped and turned. They scattered like leaves before I could say anything, but their words stuck with me. New Luna? That was ridiculous. I was the Luna, and that wouldn't change just because Victoria was pregnant.

At least, that was what I told myself. The market trip that afternoon only confirmed my suspicions that something was seriously wrong.

The stares I got weren't curious ones. They were pitying. People whispered as I walked past, their eyes tracking me like I was some kind of spectacle.

I walked faster, then started running. By the time I got home, my lungs burned, and my chest felt tight.

Even the staff looked at me differently. Like they knew something I didn't.

I needed to find Xander. I needed answers.

Halfway up the stairs, I heard sounds coming from our bedroom. At first, I couldn't place them. Then I could. Moaning. The creak of the bed frame.

My feet moved before my brain could catch up, pulling me toward the noise like I was on a string.

"Yes, fuck " a woman's voice, breathy and desperate.

"Your pussy is so fucking tight." Came Ethan's voice, low and satisfied.

The stake that had been lodged in my chest twisted, I knew that voice, both of them.

My hands shook as I reached for the doorknob. I didn't want to open it, but I had to. I had to see it to believe it.

The door swung open, and there they were. Ethan and Victoria on my bed. His hands on her breasts, her body moving over his like this was the most natural thing in the world.

They didn't even notice me at first. They were too wrapped up in each other literally.

"Ethan," I said. My voice sounded hollow, even to me.

They stopped, and the sudden silence was worse than the moaning had been.

Victoria climbed off him without bothering to cover herself. She looked at me with something that might have been amusement or maybe triumph.

"What are you looking at?" she asked casually, as if I had just caught her eating from my plate instead of fucking my husband.

"Come on, Sofia. Don't tell me you are actually shocked," she laughed, shaking her head like I was being stupid. "You really thought I came here to give you a baby?"

I couldn't speak, my mouth opened but nothing came out.

"I came here to take your place," Victoria continued, stepping closer to me, still naked, still smiling. "You are barren, Sofia. Useless. Ethan deserves better than an empty vessel like you."

Each word landed like a punch. Barren. Empty vessel. Useless.

I turned to Ethan, searching his face for something, denial, guilt, anything. "Is this true?"

He didn't answer. He just looked away.

"Get out," Victoria said, her voice sharp. When I didn't move fast enough, she grabbed my hair and yanked me backwards. The pain was instant and blinding.

"I said get out!" She shoved me hard toward the door.

My skull hit the doorframe. Stars exploded across my vision, and I felt the warm trickle of blood sliding down my face.

When the ringing in my ears stopped, I turned back to look at them. Victoria was laughing while the man of the day looked pale.

I touched my forehead, and my fingers came away red.

"You are going to regret this," I said quietly, my voice steady despite the blood, despite the dizziness creeping in at the edges. "Both of you."

Then I turned and walked away before they could see how much I was shaking.

  • Rejected By Alpha Ethan, Chosen By The Alpha King   23

Sophia Walking back into Silver Age Pack felt like walking through a graveyard of my own life. Every corner held a memory. The entryway where I'd waited for Ethan on our first anniversary. The hallway where Cynthia and I had laughed about something stupid. The living room where we'd made plans for a future that would never exist. The place had changed, new furniture, different paint colors, portraits I didn't recognize hanging on the walls. It was like someone had deliberately tried to erase me from the space, and somehow, that hurt more than if they'd left everything exactly as I'd remembered it. "You ready or do I need to drag you?" Alpha Kai asked, his impatience cutting through my spiraling thoughts. He was right. We weren't here for a reunion. We were here for business. I needed to reject Ethan, seduce Master Bruno, and help Alpha Kai consolidate power. Simple. Except nothing about this felt simple. When we reached the sitting room, Ethan was waiting. He looked small

Kai The saying goes that if you want to beat your enemies, you have to beat them at their own game. That's what I was doing. By helping Sophia reject Ethan, I was accomplishing two things, giving her what she desperately needed, and getting myself a weapon against Bruno. She didn't have to know that I'd already figured out Bruno would try to use her against me. She didn't have to know that I'd anticipated his every move before he even made it. What I hadn't anticipated was actually starting to care about whether she got what she wanted.Beta Drew had asked if Sophia was ready for the journey, but I'd waved him off. I needed a moment alone to understand what was happening to me. Because the truth was becoming impossible to ignore, I was changing. And it was all because of her. For years, I'd told myself that women were disposable. That they were liabilities, weaknesses, nothing worth protecting. But watching Sophia these past weeks, watching her rebuild herself, fight for what she

SophiaOne minute you're someone. One minute you have an identity, a role, a place in the world. The next minute, you're nothing. A ghost haunting the spaces you used to occupy. That's what had happened to me.I'd spent four years being Ethan's Luna. Four years building a life, a reputation, a purpose. And in a single night, all of that had evaporated like smoke. The mate bond was still there, that was the worst part. I could still feel him, still sense him across the distance. We were tethered together by something neither of us wanted anymore, and I had no way to cut the string. My wolf had been pushing me about it for days now. "We need to sever it. We need to be free."She was right. I knew she was right. But knowing something and doing it were two different things.I sat on the edge of the bed, watching North sleep, and made a decision. I was going to ask Alpha Kai for help. He was an alpha. He had connections, resources, knowledge. If anyone could help me formally reject Ethan a

KaiI'd been staring at the same page for twenty minutes without actually reading a single word.Alpha Drew had been talking about something the pack business, reports that needed my signaturebut I wasn't listening. My mind was still back on the porch with Sophia, or in the forest with Bruno, or in the past where all of this had started, and I couldn't figure out how to stop it."You're doing it again," Beta Drew said, his voice carrying a note of exhaustion."Doing what?""Zoning out. You've been in this office for three hours and haven't actually accomplished anything." He set a new stack of files on my desk. "We need to talk about the women's detention facilities."I leaned back in my chair. "What about them?""They're getting attacked. The women we've detained are getting assaulted by the male inmates. It's becoming a serious problem." Beta Drew's expression was grave. "We need to build a separate facility for female prisoners. They need their own space, their own guards.""Why is

Sophia "His name is Bruno," North said, sitting down beside me on the cottage porch. "He left the pack years ago. Nobody expected him to come back." I nodded, though honestly, I was more interested in understanding why he'd come back now. The way Alpha Kai had looked at him, like he wanted to tear him apart with his bare hands told me there was history there, baad history. "Were they close?" I asked. "Once, maybe. Not anymore." North picked at a thread on her skirt. "Whatever happened between them, it was bad enough that Alpha Kai refuses to even say his name." I thought about that, two brothers so broken by each other that they couldn't even acknowledge one another's existence. It was sad, in a way. I'd lost my connection with my family too, but at least it wasn't intentional. At least I could still remember the good times before everything fell apart. "People say Bruno knows things about Alpha Kai," North continued, her voice lowering. "Things from before he became alpha. Nobo

KaiI was going to kill him. That was my first thought when Bruno walked into my office like he had every right to be there. My second thought was that I'd need to make it look like an accident."So good to see you, brother," Bruno said, settling into the chair across from my desk like we were old friends catching up over drinks. "It's been what, two years? Three?""Four." My voice was ice. "What are you doing here?""Father sent for me. He's worried about you." Bruno smiled, and it was the same smile he'd been wearing the day he'd betrayed me. The day he'd lied to our father's face and left me standing alone with the truth nobody would believe."I don't care what Father wants," I said."That's obvious." Bruno leaned back in his chair, completely comfortable in the face of my obvious fury. "He's concerned that you're not focusing on producing an heir. That you're letting a woman from another pack distract you from your responsibilities."I said nothing. Let him keep talking."So here'

Kai.I had been smoking since I left the house, trying to calm my nerves in the one place where my father's voice couldn't reach me. Sophia.Seven days, that was how long I had been avoiding the place I once called home.I kept telling myself I was managing fine, that I could function, could do my job as Luna, could pretend everything wasn't falling apart. Sophia. The mansion buzzed with life in a way it hadn't in months. Staff moved around the house with so much energy, cleaning every single marble counter until they gleamed, arranging fresh flowers in every corner, and ensuring every detail was flawless and good to go. It was a chaos that felt con
