LOGINKARI'S POV
A collective gasp ripped through the temple as I felt a pair of comforting hands around me, for the first time.
Without thinking, I leaned into them, letting my sister hold me as shame threatened to drown me.
This was a scandal that would ring through the ages, a public destruction of my dignity.
“And as for you,” Titan said, turning back to me, his voice dropping to a lethal, cruel snarl.
No…no..
My mouth went dry with fear, and shock.
“I, Titan of Wilder, hereby reject you. Our bond is severed. You are nothing to me now.”
I doubled over as pain flashed in my lower belly, like hot iron being pulled through my insides, a final proof that our had been broken.
I fell to my knees, the white silk of my dress pooling around me like spilled milk. The room spun, I felt faint.
And through the haze of my agony, I saw Indira lean in, her lips brushing Titan’s ear as she smirked at my broken form.
“Have this woman removed from my sight!” Titan boomed, “she no longer has a place in this place.”
But then before the guards could get to me, I got up, tearing away from Bianca as I ran towards the large door.
I didn't know where I was going but I kept running…
***
The marble floor was cold against my palms as I struggled to breathe.
We were back in Silvermoon, and I was crumpled on the floor, before my parents, siblings and the man who had shattered my heart and ego.
The rejection mark on my soul felt like a festering wound, burning like the bleeding scratches on my skin.
“I am very disappointed in you, Kari.”
I looked up, searching for a sympathetic look on my father's face.
There was none.
“Why?” I croaked, feeling as defeated as I looked in my drab, black dress.
“I haven't done anything for you to be disappointed in me for, papa.”
My father, the Alpha of Silvermoon, sat stone-faced, his arms crossed over his chest as he glared at me.
My mother looked away, her mouth a thin, hard line of shame.
“No lady in our bloodline has ever been rejected by a mate! And especially not on the day of their marriage!”
“Father, please,” I gasped, reaching out a hand.
He didn't move.
“You have brought a stain upon our household that even the rains of a century cannot wash away, Kari.
To be rejected at the altar... it is a death blow for our reputation. No one will ever respect nor fear us again.”
“Is that all you care about?” I asked, my vision blurring with unshed tears. “What about the fact that I am hurting? The fact that my sister took away the man I love.”
“Silly girl!” mother snapped, “Indira didn't take Titan from you, he chose her over you!”
“And for good reasons too,” father supported, nodding. “No one wants a woman like her.”
“I did nothing!” I screamed, the sound raw and jagged. “Titan betrayed me!”
My mother looked down at me from his height on the dais, his hand still firmly folded in his chest.
“You were found wanting, Kari. Do not blame the sun for shining on a more vibrant flower.”
Indira stepped forward, her silk skirts hissing against the stone.
She leaned down, ostensibly to help me, but as her face came close to mine, she whispered into the shell of my ear, “Titan never loved you, you little fool. He spent every night you in my bed, laughing at your silly letters.”
I lunged for her, a snarl ripping from my throat, but the guards were faster. Two hulking men immediately seized my arms, their grip bruising the delicate skin.
“Take her out,” father ordered, his voice bored.
“I can not bear to look at her anymore.”
“Papa, no!” I fought them, my heels dragging against the floor. “Titan, please…you cannot let them cast me out like a common thief! I have nowhere to go!”
“That,” Titan finally said, turning to lead Indira toward the grand doors, “is no longer my concern. You are not my mate anymore, and therefore I no longer owe you anything.”
“Wait!” Bianca cried, trying to break through the line of guards to reach me, but our father caught her by the shoulder, pulling her back.
“Leave her, Bianca,” my father commanded. “I do not want her bad luck to rub off on you, be quiet!”
“Where do you want me to go?” I sobbed brokenly, my heart feeling heavy. “I don't know where to go.”
“You may journey to Ayha's temple,” my father replied flatly. “Ask her to help you wash away this curse lest it festers through generations.”
The words cut deeper than Titan’s rejection. I looked at my mother one last time, begging for a glimmer of maternal comfort, but she merely turned her back to me, adjusting her lace shawl as if I were a smudge of soot on the wall.
The guards hauled me through the heavy oak doors and threw me down onto the gravel path of the courtyard. The iron gates of the palace groaned shut behind me, the sound of the locking bolt echoing like a coffin nail being driven home.
I stood up, my dress torn and stained with mud from my early morning long walk through the forest.
My wolf had gone utterly silent in the face of Titan's scorn. I was now alone, mateless, because now no one would ever want me after Titan's rejection.
They'd all think he rejected me because of something irredeemably wrong. I was in pain, so great it made me feel like I was on fire.
You can end the pain… a tiny voice whispered in my mind. They call it the coward's way out, but it takes a great deal of courage to take your own life…
I let the thought fester. And as the first drops of a cold, grey rain began to fall, I made a decision.
KARI'S POVThree days later, the news about Indira and Titan's death reached our pack.I couldn’t get over the news, and I kept imagining what might have led to their deaths.According to one of the pack guards, Titan took his own life by piercing himself with the same sword he had used to fight—and win—wars. As for Indira, she was found dead in her room the night before Titan died. Some pack members claimed she committed suicide, but others believed she was strangled and forced into an early grave. However, Indira was buried the following day—the same day Titan took his life.Titan's body still lay in his room. He would be buried according to the traditions of the pack. For now, the elders are working on giving him a befitting burial before investigating the cause of Indira's death.Hmmm.How ironic.Titan must have felt truly miserable the moment Alan revealed the truth to him and everyone.Sitting with my hands buried in my palms, I wiped my tears as the door to my room opened.“Are
INDIRA'S POV Evening was already drawing to a close as I sat on the bed, staring blankly at the lifeless ceiling.I had barely eaten or drank anything since the beginning of the day. I doubt anyone cares about my well-being right now. After everything they heard earlier—how I dragged the pack through the mud—it’s no surprise. The elders have to decide my fate. I can only remain inside my room till they finally decide on what to do with me. At least my situation was better than Alan’s—he’d been thrown back into the cell. I doubted he would make it out alive after today.Gosh.I regret everything now. I wished I could be given a second chance. But do I really deserve a chance to live? I've done so many horrible things including killing my own parents. Is that a crime to forgive? Even if the people of Wilder Pack forgives me, what about the members of Silvermoon pack? They would request I die just as I had killed my parents, the Alpha and Luna of the pack. Tears brimmed down my eye
TITAN'S POV The truth had been finally brought to light, bringing certain cold to the lives of those affected.Indira now stood before the council, feeling shameful and embarrassed. She had tried to stir confusion earlier, but everything ultimately unraveled against her. Kari and Viktor wanted to leave immediately the truth about what Indira did came to light. But I begged Kari to stay a little further while I could speak to her. That is my last chance. To make Kari mine. Kari and Viktor agreed and waited patiently behind. The elders waited behind to discuss the punishment that would be levied against Indira and Alan. The act they committed was grave and this could never be forgiven. At once, I ordered my men to lock Indira up in her room while Alan returned to the cell. Before the dismissal of the meeting, the elders and council informed me that they will go back and sleep over the case on ground and come back to me in the next two days. They left at once and the hall room
Chapter 314 INDIRA'S POV The morning broke in a hurry. Finally, the long awaited day we all have been waiting for is here—the council meeting. I slumped with cold feet to the window and pulled the curtains up. “Today is the day” I smiled mischievously to myself. By now, the hall room would have been filled with elders and other prominent figures in the pack. I’ll have to stand before them all and prove my innocence.Alan will be standing by the other side of the hall, to reveal all that we have done in the secret and all that he knows. “What a day” I muttered and sighed. Suddenly, I heard a knock on the door. It wasn't firece so I concluded it was either a maid or one of the gaurds. I know who it was already. Then, I walked slowly towards the door and opened it slightly. A maid stood outside the door, her hands crossed firmly. I was right afterwards.“Alpha Titan demand your presence in the meeting room, Luna.” The maids' message was filled with urgency. It made my hea
Chapter 313 KARI'S POV The following morning, Viktor and I began to prepare for our journey to Wilder Pack. Two of Titan's men were here yesterday. Finally, the Long awaited council meeting is here. We all shall gather to hear the truth today. I stood by the mirror dressing my hair when Viktor walked towards me and held my waist from the behind. “You look beautiful in this outfit” he kissed my back softly. I squealed lightly and turned to look at him. “Thank you” He smiled and lowered his hands down to my tummy. three months gone already yet my bump remained invisible. “Whatever will happen today in Wilder Pack, I want you to know that I still love you” He said. “I love you too,” I replied. “ We need to hurry now” “Oh, come on,” he smirked. “ Are you suddenly avoiding me now?” My eyes sparkled with amusement.“Hey, that's not true” “Don’t even try to avoid me” Viktor's playful warning filled my ears.“ Okay, fine,” I said. My eyes withdrew from its excitement. “ I
Chapter 312 INDIRA'S POV Seething in my room, I pulled myself on the floor, feeling frustrated and defeated. How on earth did I allow all of these to happen to me?A little love and affection from Titan just messed the woman in me. I didn't know what I was thinking. He was leading me to my own grave. And I keep following without questioning the source of his newfound behavior. What do I do now? It's pretty too late to make plans that would save me. I’m alone now, with no one left on my side. Everyone who once stood by me is gone—my men… even Aliyah. They're all gone. Some of my men never betrayed me. They were forced by Titan to leave the pack house when I was yet aware of anything going on. Now, I feel the heat of having to plan, think and solve problems alone. Hmm. Now I understand why keeping a good relationship is very important. Those my trusted men would have joined forces with me to fight Titan against all odds. Now, I'm lonely and without support. Tears
TITAN’S POVThe forest shouldn't be this quiet.Mmm.Something's off. I can sense it.I had ridden through battlefields, through burning villages, through the kind of silence that follows a massacre. But this??This was definitely different. This silence was intended. Somewhat watchful.Like someth
VIKTOR'S POV “The hell it has!” I bellowed angrily.“I know my wife and I trust her enough to know that you're merely bluffing.”Alan let out a short, mirthless laugh. “Your wife? Titan calls her his mate. You call her your wife. Has anyone asked Kari what she wants to be called lately?”“Do not l
KARI'S POV Pausing briefly, I added. “I promise I won't move from this spot. Where would I go?”This was when I saw the hesitation in the set of her shoulders and mouth, the way her eyes darted around before narrowing in thought. She was young or at least, she had been turned young. The empathy
VIKTOR'S POVA light rain had started immediately before the ride began. I found it very irritating, because it lasted longer than I expected. But eventually, it stopped, although the chill continued to permeate the air.The horses’ hooves pounded the damp earth into a muted slurry, a sound that I w
