I stared at the door Aurora had walked through. Her words kept bouncing around my mind, pulling strings of torment at me.

It can’t be true, the Alpha didn’t accept me as his mate to watch me die, is that a way of giving me an easy death?

I shook my head again and sighed.

His cold behavior towards me clearly shouted out that he didn’t love me. The way he looked at Aurora, smiled at her and talked to her gave me a huge clue that he didn’t want me but her.

The door swung open and the voice I’ve forever been evading sank into my ear.

“How are you feeling now, Elena?”

I spun around, glaring at Nathan’s face.

“Well, as you can see, I’m fine,” I snapped.

I still can’t understand where this unusual courage comes from whenever I am with him.

He smiled wryly, tilting his neck nervously.

“The Alpha’s lover seems to be a sassy lady,” I was finally beginning to start a conversation, unusually.
