Gwen
7:30 pm.Just as I had anticipated. The knee got better. But I limped while walking. I pull out a white shirt, a pair of jeans, and a hoodie from my closet. It might get chilly tonight so I need to dress for the weather."Where are you off to? Isn't your knee sprained?" Lionel asked. He lowered his head to observe me. He had the remote control in his hands. His favourite TV show playing when I came into the sitting room.I lied to him. "To see Leo."Lionel continued to stare at me suspiciously. "But he was here this afternoon.""He forgot his study notes here. I want to give them back to —"He cuts me off. "Whatever. It's not like you are useful in this house anyway."I paid him no attention."When mom and dad get home. Tell them I went to see Leo."I didn't wait for him to answer. I slipped out of the house and headed in the direction of the children's pack.It was a busy night. The street was bustling with so many activities. San Francisco was even more beautiful at night. I loved how tonight smells. Earthy and fruity.Just as I had suspected, the night was a bit chilly and windy combined with the fruity smell coming from the fruit shop by my right. A great mix that calmed my nerves.I saw no one in the park. It was empty. I grabbed my phone to check the time. 8:05 pm.Had he left? But waiting for five minutes shouldn't make him leave already."You are late." His voice makes my spine stiffen with fear.He must have crept up behind me. I didn't even hear him coming. I slowly turn around to face him. "I am sorry. It's —""Enough," he said. "I didn't ask for an explanation."I kept my mouth shut on his demand."Are you here alone?" He looks around as if to confirm by himself. He was wearing a grey hoodie with matching sweatpants. His beautiful eyes flickered beneath the light."Yes," I whispered."Good. Come with me."I refused to move an inch. I couldn't follow him nor could I ask him where he was taking me to."Are you deaf?" He stands still. "I said come with me."Surprisingly, I summoned the courage to ask. "Are you going to hurt me?"He chuckled. "I've better things to do than hurting a weakling like you. Don't waste any more of my time."Not like I believed him but he sounded believable. I dragged after him.He brought us to a small booth in the park. I could feel his eyes observing my every move. "What happened to your legs?"I was surprised he asked. Jasper never cares. He made fun of people when he pleased. Unfortunately, I was one of those people."I sprained my knee," I simply said. I didn't want to explain further before he shut me up again."Is that why you didn't come to school today?"I nod. "Yes""Sit down.""Huh.""You heard me. Sit!" He beckoned with his head in the direction of the chair.I sat and clasped my hands together. Maybe I should have listened to Leo. This meeting was getting awkward by the minute.Jasper didn't sit. He stood staring at me. He placed his hands in his pockets. "Now let's begin." ****"You must be wondering why I called you here, right?"I nodded."I am a guy who doesn't like to beat about the bush. I will go straight to the point."He spoke confidently. Regardless of Jasper's immoral ways. I have always admired how he spoke. He had high self-esteem which I lacked.Among his friends in school, he stood out when it came to being book-smart and street-smart.I have secretly admired him for years. If I could be half as good as him without the trouble-making part though, I would gladly thank the Moon goddess."We are the only two rejected werewolves at the last Luna Covergence and coincidentally we are from the same park. I come here with a proposition that will help us both, at least before the next Lunar Convergence," He said, then paused as if to make me assimilate what he had just said.I narrowed my eyes. Proposition. What was Jasper playing at this time? "What proposition?" I asked."To forge a fake mate bond," he blurted out without hesitation."What?!" I almost fell from the chair I was sitting on. I stutter out of shock. "You…are…joking right?""No. I meant what I said.""But we can't do that. You know the rules. The punishment for committing such is grave."I had to remind him. The punishment is serious because faking a mate bond is not only a crime but one was also lying against the Moon goddess. It's like telling everyone she paired two people when that isn't the case."The last time I checked I am soon-to-be Alpha, not you," he said. "So yes I know the rules better than you do. Stop lecturing me!" This time he yelled. I cowered leaning closely to the wall of the booth."Now what I want from you is for you to act as my mate for the next four months. It's as simple as ABC. I won't be surprised if it ain't that simple to you. A slug-like you will find it hard."I am not surprised Jasper is trying to bully me into breaking the rules with him. I was not going to allow myself to get severely punished because of him. It is a taboo to lie about a mate bond and here he is trying to do worse by faking it."I am sorry. I can't." I muttered. He jerked his head back and shuffled back a step. "You can't? Or you won't?""I can't. It's against the rules set by the pack community. If we are caught we would be punished or worse exiled.""Let me worry about that. And who is going to find out? Unless you go around blabbing about it."I rose to leave. I was scared of Jasper but I was more scared of the pack community."I need to go home now. I am sorry I can't do as you ask?""Don't you want to live without being humiliated and persecuted? I saw what happened to you at the school cafeteria yesterday."I shut my eyes. Of course, I want to leave like everyone else. But not like this. Not by faking a mate bond!"I don't care about such things anymore," I said, walking away from him."I give you two days."I stopped without turning around. I didn't want to look at him. "For what?""To think about it" He catches up to me and blocks my path. "Or else." He smirked.I knew what that smirk meant. He was going to force me even if I didn't want to do it.Jasper One month had passed since the miraculous events at the Coit Tower. The werewolf community had been shaken by the revelation of our fated bond and whispers of our extraordinary connection echoed throughout the packs.Gwen and I didn't need the Lunar Convergence anymore. The moonstone gave us what we wished; each other. "Hi, beautiful." I shut the door behind me. Gwen raised her head. She sat on her chair writing. "How's my mate doing?" I asked, staring into her gorgeous eyes. "My hands hurt from all the writing. I need to submit this report tomorrow." "Is it a lot?" I asked, trying to take a peek. "Out of ten, I've only done four." "Oops!" I exclaimed. She does have a lot to cover. Gwen tugged my arm. "Did you hear what happened to Reginald?" I was surprised to hear the question, wondering what must have happened. So I asked. "What happened?" "Leo called me fifteen minutes ago. He said a friend at Reginald's colony told him that Reginald was taken to the punishment camp
Gwen Life isn't fair. It has never been fair to me since the day I was born. It's never given me what I wanted. The few things it gave me, it gave me late; when others have long had theirs. I could still hear Jaspers scream in my head. Seeing him struggle to breathe, with blood coming out of his mouth and nose was terrifying. I could do nothing when he ingested the thornleaf. I watched in horror as he breathed his last. My cry echoed through the Sanctum. I wanted to take his place or better still die with him. But one of us needs to take the moonstone back home. The pack community was waiting for us to return on the third day.It was evening by the time we arrived at the Coit Tower. A large crowd had gathered, waiting for us. It seemed everyone wanted to see what would happen to those two who foolishly went against the mating laws. Probably they all wanted to find out if we would return with the moonstone or not.Jasper's body was dropped to the ground. The muttering from the crowd
Jasper "You're not a bad person. You've grown to become my favorite person." I confessed to Gwen. "I don't care about Selena. If anything, I'm glad you never told me about it because I would never have gotten to know you, and that would be a great loss. I was mean to you. I'm so sorry that my pride came before everything else."I let out a deep breath. "But why would you have a crush on someone as bad and irresponsible as I am?"Gwen lowered her head. " Simple. The heart wants what it wants. Trust me I've tried to hate you but I couldn't. I accepted that and from crushing on you, I moved to falling in love with you during the time I spent with you. I know you don't love me but what matters is that I do."I reached out to hold her hands and cup her cheek. "I was stupid not to notice. I feel jealous when guys talk to you. I wanted you just for myself," I whispered passionately. "At first, I thought I wanted you just for four months, but I realized I wanted you forever. My wolf is only p
Jasper I wanted to say many things to Gwen but I didn't know where to begin from. If I knew things were going to turn out this bad, I wouldn't have brought about this idea. I'm still shocked that a life will be given for the moonstone. It sounds like a joke. It's hard to take in. I leaned my back to the wall thinking of all my actions that led me to this point and I knew it was my pride. I wasn't patient enough to wait for the next Lunar Convergence. I wanted to control everything in my life. I'm used to winning all the time and not having things go my way makes me want to force it to. I watch Gwen as she quietly stays in her corner. She can't avoid me forever. At one point before midnight, one of us has to step forward. The most horrible way one of us would die is by not telling the other goodbye. I don't want to lie to myself. I regret starting this but I do not regret meeting her and knowing her better. She taught me someone can be good to you and accept nothing in return. I
Gwen I must say, I never expected this place to look like this. The people here live like one big family. There aren't more than two hundred people here, men, women, and kids., I am not so sure though. It's amazing how they could live in the middle of this forest away from the outside world. How do they live? No phones, no cars, no TV, no schools, no malls—you name it. They don't even wear clothes like ours; they have long fabrics with strings tied around their waist. Long, beautiful hair is one of the features they all have. Just like my mother showed me in the picture, my father also had long hair. It must be a law here to grow out the hair.My supposed aunt, Sonya Silverwood, is the Alpha of the Silverwood Grove; a position that belonged to my father, and in his absence it could only go to the next in line—Her. It's the first time I've seen a female Alpha. "Why did you allow me in? You were supposed to send me away," I said. Sonya grinned. "Your mother told you that, right?""
Jasper On foot, going to the Silverwood Grove takes a day and a half at most. Three wolf warriors, all guys, were asked to go with us. But they're not to interfere in our quest in any way. They would be lurking around somewhere observing all we did. This was to ensure they report back to the pack community everything that happens to ensure transparency. We walked in silence. Gwen didn't want to speak to me. I noticed she didn't want to get close to me either. As we walked, she stayed several inches away from me. She must be terrified. I could see it in her eyes back at the punishment camp. There's so much I do not know about Gwen. I thought I did. Zara revealed she's Silverwood. If we weren't seized and in such a predicament but happened to just be friends, that would've been great news. But it wasn't such great news with the quest at hand. Her father is a great figure. It's common knowledge that anyone who bears the last name Silverwood is a guardian of the grove and also a keepe
