VENUS

His teasing lights a fire under my skin, and I push myself to my feet. He won the first round.

Round two.

This time, I need to be smarter.

I lower my stance, feet grounded on the mat, eyes locked on his posture. He’s centered, perfectly balanced. Calm. Ready.

I fake a high punch. He bites, raising his arms to block, just as I predicted. I dive low with a sweeping kick, aiming to take out his legs.

But he jumps midair. Twisting like a damn acrobat, landing behind me with a silent grace that makes me freeze.

Shit. That was cool.

Before I can react, his arm snakes around my waist. He locks my arm, shifts his weight, and in one fluid motion, executes a hip throw that sends me crashing onto the mat again.

This time, it’s my pride that hits harder than the floor.

He extends a hand, that maddeningly charming smile on his face. I grab it with a begrudging huff.

“You’re strong,” I mutter, unable to keep the grudging respect out of my voice.

“I get that a lot,” he says with a wink.

VENUS“I can’t change it now,” he says, more like he’s reminding both of us of the poor fate that has left us helpless. “But I want to put everything behind us.”I do not know what to say.A part of me wants that too. Desperately. I am tired of carrying this hurt everywhere I go. But another part of me still bleeds from his betrayal. I still remember how easily I was replaced.I open my mouth to respond. The door to the meeting room swings open.Simon steps out, his sharp gaze moving between us before settling on Bronze. “The elders are waiting,”he states. Bronze nods and gestures for me to go in first. I walk past him and enter the room. The elders are already seated around the table. Their expressions are serious and expectant as usual. Just as I anticipated, Mallory is there too.Unlike the other times, her gaze lands heavily on me. One that feels threatening. Elder Gonalz gestures for me to sit.I take the chair, my movements slow and careful, a sense of dread already settling d

VENUS“T-that could be possible. But when he—,” she clears her throat, as if careful not to hurt me, “when that incident happened, the full moon period was just starting. It’s usually not that strong at that time since it’s just being initiated.” I purse my lips, feeling a tad bit disappointed. A part of me hoped that I could blame it on the full moon for whatever he did. That way I would find it easy to forgive him. To believe what he told me. “Are you okay?” Sydney asks, watching me with concern filling her eyes. After that incident, Bronze never came to check on me. Not at the hospital, not at the packhouse. I did not see him at all. Not even for once. Even though I broke up with him for cheating on me, a part of me still aches. It hurts that he does not check on me at all.Like I do not matter to him anymore.I nod. “Yeah,” I exhale. “Totally.” —-------------------------------------------I lie on my bed, staring at the ceiling, but my mind refuses to rest. The white wolf’s

VENUSI take a slow breath and look at Rowan. “It was Mallory,” I mutter, pressing my lips in concern. “She’s the one who let those wolves into the pack. One of them was a white wolf.”His expression hardens instantly. “You do not need to worry about that,” he assures me. “I am already investigating this.”I shake my head. “We are all in this together. No matter what you say, Mallory has it out for me now. She knows I’m suspicious of her.”He frowns. “How is that possible?”I hesitate, then decide there is no point hiding it. “Before everyone arrived, I confronted her in the woods. She was hiding and watching me. I didn’t have a choice.”Rowan exhales and runs a hand through his face. His eyes turn cold, sharp, like he is piecing together a puzzle I cannot see.“You need to be more careful,” he warns me. “If Mallory knows, that means you will be watched.”“I know,” I reply, nodding my head. “But you won’t have to deal with that.”He smirks slightly, as if he knows something he is not

VENUSA massive white rogue wolf pins me down, jaws dripping with blood. Its claws dig into my shoulder, cutting deep, fire erupts across my skin, sharp and tearing. The pain is so intense I almost black out.No. No, no, no.If I pass out now, I’m dead.I gasp, trying to push it off, but its weight is overwhelming, crushing the air from my lungs. My vision blurs. My heart pounds too fast. I feel dizzy. This pain is too much… I’m losing…Then, something inside me snaps.A surge of hot, electric energy floods my veins, stronger than before, almost feral.I take a shaky breath. Focus. I must control it. Channel it.The world slows. The wolf snarls, lowering its jaws toward my throat. My eyes burn. A blue glow fills my vision.Energy bursts outward through my skin like a shockwave. The white wolf is thrown off me, slamming into a tree so hard the trunk splits. It doesn’t get up.It’s dead. I stare at its still body, chest heaving, my hands trembling. My palms tingle with that same electr

VENUSOne of the rogues breaks away from the chaos and lunges toward the injured couple. “No!” I sprint toward them instinctively.I shove the man and woman aside just as the wolf crashes into me. Its claws rake across my side, burning fire through my ribs. Pain explodes in my body, sharp and blinding, but I refuse to fall.I slam my elbow into the wolf’s snout. It snarls, snapping at my throat, but I twist out of reach and shove my forearm against its jaw, forcing its teeth away. My other hand glows with that strange power, and I slam it into its chest. The wolf flies backward with a yelp.“Run!” I shout at the couple. My voice breaks, but they don’t waste a second. They stumble to their feet and sprint toward the opposite direction. Two other rogues notice them fleeing. They pivot sharply, their ears flattening, teeth bared and chase after the couple.“Oh no you don’t.”I growl and force myself forward.I expect the pain in my side to slow me down, but instead my speed surges. My le

VENUSIt feels heavy. Wrong. Like the forest suddenly exhaled something cold and alive against my skin. I stare into the trees to my right, pulse spiking.Olivia notices my change in expression. “What’s the matter?” she asks, exasperated. “We need to keep moving or other groups will get the batches first.” she reminds me. “I know,” I whisper, but the sensation crawls up my spine. I decide to ignore this feeling. I walk ahead with her but then the feeling keeps growing and growing until I just can’t ignore it. I stop in my tracks. Olivia turns to me with confusion. “What now?” There’s annoyance in her voice. “It’s just… something’s out there. Something bad.”Olivia turns toward me fully, annoyance tightening her jaw. “And how exactly do you know that?”“I don’t,” I admit. “But I can sense it.”She rolls her eyes. “We all sense things. Doesn’t mean we stop the whole hunt for it.”“It’s not like that,” I insist. “It’s too strong to ignore.”Olivia throws her hands up. “Venus, I don’t
