Finally, he caps the tube and sets it aside. “There,” he mutters, looking at her feet and giving it a slight tap. “That should ease it.”

Mallory slowly rises from the sofa, trying to put weight on her foot. But she stumbles almost instantly, letting out a small cry as she loses her balance and lands straight into Bronze’s arms.

He catches her instinctively. Mallory’s hands clutch his shoulders, and for a second, they stay that way. He steadies her, his brows knitting in concern. “You can’t walk like this,” he says, his tone gentle but firm. “I’ll take you to your room.”

Before I can even speak, he bends down and lifts her into his arms.

I can only watch with my heart aching as her arms loop around his neck and her head rests lightly against his chest. The sight hurts.

It’s not like before. Initially, I used to think Mallory was the one coming between us. This time it feels like I’m the one coming in between their connection. As if I am standing in a place I was never meant to be
