Chapter 22

ALEXANDER

I was fucking exhausted.

I hadn’t slept more than three hours in the past few days and the exhaustion was finally starting to wear on me.

The minute I left the hospital, I got a call that there was an incident at one of our sites. Some equipment was faulty and one of the workers was involved in a horrible accident. I’d been working overtime with the other directors, the lawyers and everyone in charge to make sure that this didn’t become a scandal.

Every second we waited for the victim to get out of his coma felt like torture because if he died, his family had the right to sue us to oblivion. I wasn’t sure my reputation could handle one more backlash right now.

My phone buzzed, and once I realized it was my lawyer, I immediately picked up. He’d only called twice since this whole debacle started, and it was because he had news to give.

“Is it good news or bad news?” I asked, bracing myself for the worst.

“Both,” he answered grimly. “He is awake.”
