Chapter 94

EVANGELINE

All it took was one phone call for my entire day to be ruined.

I was in the hospital when I got the call about Bella being detained. She’d called me and I barely made out her words through tears. I ran out of the hospital, not even bothering to tell anyone where I was going. I didn’t even change out of my scrubs.

“Bella!” I yelled as soon as I got to the station. “That’s my friend. She called me. I’m here to see her.”

The officer stared at me blankly and took her precious fucking time before gesturing to the back of the room. I ran as soon as I knew where I was going and stood in front of the cells that held Bella.

She was seated on an old bench, her head bowed in her hands. Her shoulders shook from the force of her sobs.

“What the hell happened?”

Her head snapped up at the sound of my voice and she rushed over, grabbing my hands through the bars. “You have to get me out of here.”

“I need to know how this even happened in the first place.”

“They said I helped a client comm
