I could tell the person was still out there. I didn’t know how, but a part of me just knew.

I sat up straighter, summoning whatever shreds of pride I had left and cleared my throat.

“Who is that?” I called out, but no one responded. “I saw you, you know? You were eavesdropping on a conversation that didn’t concern you.”

The person still didn’t make themselves known.

“Nicholas?” I called out.

I felt stupid immediately after I said his name, but he was the first person that came to mind. He was the only one who always managed to show up at the worst possible time, and he had the most interest when it came to Alex and I’s relationship.

I wouldn’t put snooping past him.
