Varek's pov.

“Thank you for letting her stay,” Sarah mentioned as we both stood behind the healer who had been working on her for a few hours now.

Crossing my hands over my chest, “once she wakes up, she's out of here,” I responded, glaring at the girl who had been cleaned up now.

Her pale skin glistened under the fading light of the sun.

The only reason I let her stay was because of Sarah and elder Stewart, and nothing else. I had no pity for her, her people had no pity on mine either.

“When is she going to wake up?” I questioned the healer who had been working tirelessly, while he cleaned her up with a wet cloth.

Mark sighed, “She was hurt pretty badly, lost a lot of blood, for some reason she still hasn't healed herself, I really don't know when she would wake up,” his voice soft and somber, echoes of pity hidden in them.

I didn't like this, if anything, I hated it, he continued after wiping her face off, proceeded to wrap a bandage around her eyes and I frowned.

Varek’s pov.“YOU BROUGHT HER HERE?” I roared, staring at the body that laid on the floor in anger, nerves rising, “what the bloody hell is wrong with you?”How could he have done something so stupid, so unthinkable? After everything that we had been through.“She needed help Varek, what was I supposed to do? Let her die,” Sarah questioned not backing down one bit.I shook my head, “I don't care, we are not helping some stranger we don't know, who knows what she can do?” I argued while some of the warriors picked her up on Sarah's earlier command.Sarah opens her eyes wide in shock and anger, “What she can do? Varek, are you serious right now? She is on the verge of death, knowing at heaven's gate, what exactly could she possibly do?” She flayed her hands in the air in front of me.I pressed my hands against the bridge of my nose and massaged it, groaning deep as I gritted my teeth in anger. With the history we had, I doubted trusting some unknown persons as the best idea at the momen

Maya's pov. I shivered in fear right where I stood, if it weren't for the warriors holding me up, my legs would have given out. Mates! I had often heard of the term and learnt of it as well, never for once did I think I would find mine. However I realised all I had left was a lie. Yes there was the scent that would drive you crazy, but the feeling when you finally met them wasn't sweet, there were no fireworks in the background, no butterflies in the stomach. Only fear. A nerve wrecking, it was cold, my stomach felt empty, my breathing frozen, dread filled my insides and I shuddered. Staring into his dark eyes that held such enmity, hatred and disgust as he held my very sole in place, trapped in an endless void. Torian Valon descended from the stairs, not breaking our locked gaze for a second. The closer he got, the more I wanted to back away, the more I wanted to run and hide in the deepest and darkest part of the world. Anywhere but where I stood. “Once again, the moon god

Maya's pov I woke up in the middle of the woods where I had dozed off, the moon hung so high in the sky, casting a soft glow on the earth so beautifully. It finally hit me that I was running late, I should have been at the house a few hours ago, I was sure my mother would throw a fit. I launched to my feet, shaking off the debris of my persona, I surmised it might almost be me in the middle of the night. While I jogged back to the house, knowing deep down my punishment for returning late would definitely be coming, something stopped me in my tracks. It was a scent. One I had perceived before, A soft blend of creamy vanilla, golden amber, and smooth sandalwood—warm, inviting, and effortlessly sensual, one of my favorites. The intoxicating scent filled the atmosphere, and I couldn't stop taking it in, why would I want to. I knew I should have returned back home but I couldn't help myself. The scent pulled me and I let it, walking through the paths of the woods until I found myself in

Maya's pov.I was scrubbing the floors of the pack house when the buckets were rudely kicked, sending water splashing all over the place. “Oops, you missed a spot,” a girl's perky voice came after, followed by rounds of cackles as they walked away.I didn't stare at the mess that was created and had to start over. This wasn't the first time I had to do something like this, and I'm guessing it wouldn't be the last. There was a never-ending cycle of my day as the pack's runt. The weakest of all the pack members, even worse than an omega. The pack had a long tradition of raising stormy and powerful members; even the omegas are considered warriors when up against a stronger foe. I, however, didn't get the message, it would seem. And so everyone in the pack treats me like shit, constantly taunting me, and always taking an opportunity to make things difficult for me.I never complained, never for once spoke out of turn, and always took my punishment as it was. Just like today.I finished up
