ログイン“Twin?” I blinked.
My fingers trembled and ended the call unintentionally. The man in front of me was a carbon copy of Federick in terms of facial comparison. Brown hair, blue eyes, bulky arms and legs, tattooed chest. The only difference was his slightly larger build, but if you didn’t look closely, you would never tell the difference. The little time I had spent with Federick, I could tell he was principled, emotionally closed off—not that I cared, and way too serious. This dude right here looked like the complete opposite, he carried a chaotic air, totally blunt tone and somehow managed to be intimidating. His hands flew to his face, a finger tapping gently on his lips, taking slow, deliberate steps towards me. He stopped right in front of me, invading my space. His gaze was intense, his presence felt bigger, like he’d literally sucked all the oxygen around us. “I have seen you before,” he eyed me. I swallowed, clutching the file against my chest. Then I tilted my head upwards to meet his gaze. “That’s not possible,” A chuckle escaped me. His eyebrows arched in a questioning manner. “What’s impossible? Knowing you or the fact that someone like me claimed to have seen you somewhere?” He smirked. Someone like him? I bet he didn’t even know who I was. Tch. I bit my lower lip, simultaneously fighting the urge to tell him to move out of my way and an eye roll. “I see, he didn’t mention me as usual,” he said, his eyes searching for something in mine. “No, he didn’t,” I said, firmly. “Right.” His eyebrows narrowed on me. “Are you his new mistress? The one he brought to the triple date the other day?” “What?” I choked out. “How dare—” “Good,” he cut in. “Come with me.” The words had barely left his lips, when his fingers wrapped gently around my wrist, pulling me along with him. So Frederick went on that date without me? I thought he said he was going to ditch it? Well it doesn’t matter. He kept his end of the bargain, my business deals tripled over the week. It’s time for me to do mine and get this over with. “What the hell? Stop!” I snapped. “Oh come on,” he rolled his eyes. “Don’t be so dramatic, I’m barely doing anything.” He stopped in front of the receptionist and I pried my hand away. My finger wrapped around where he had gripped. What the hell is wrong with him? The receptionist glanced between us awkwardly, until her gaze finally settled on him. “Good morning sir,” she greeted, her voice pitched to an octave. She straightened her back and smiled sheepishly. “Welcome back, how may I help you?” “Process her application letter immediately,” he said and her eyes widened. “Sir?” she blurted, her head snapping in my direction. “But the CEO—” “I’m in charge till my father recovers, so do as I say,” he said and she nodded. I handed her my CV and she started typing on the computer immediately. “When you’re done, you know where to find me,” he began, then turned in my direction. “Come with me.” With that, he moved swiftly, heading towards the elevator. I walked hastily behind him as he took long strides and stopped in front of the elevator, his fingers pressing the button. A mechanic noise escaped it and the door chimed open, slowly. He glanced at me through his shoulders and stepped in. I hesitated, then he reached out and pulled me inside. The elevator door closed and began to move upwards to the very top floor. Thick, awkward silence stretched between us for a moment before he opened his mouth to speak. “So, what’s your deal with my brother?” he eyed me slowly. I didn’t respond. “In case you didn’t hear me, I said what’s your—” “I heard you,” I started. “And I chose to ignore.” He laughed maniacally. “You’ve got some balls. I will give you that.” He began, “What’s your name?” “Janet.” He exploded into loud laughter, his baritone voice echoing inside the elevator, one hand clutching his stomach gently while the other rested on the elevator wall for support. His muscles contracted and retracted as he did so and he kept at it for something close to a minute. My teeth gritted in annoyance. It hasn’t been up to an hour since I met this so-called “hotter twin” and he was already a pain in my ass. A sore sight for sure. Now I understand why Frederick never referred to him as his twin brother. When he stopped, he straightened himself and glanced at me, a look of doubt on his face. “You’re serious?” he began and I just stared at him. “Janet? That’s your name?” I rolled my eyes and turned my face away from him. “Do you have a problem with it?” “Yeah, it seems a little old fashioned,” he started. “Let’s call you Vi.” I flinched and my breath hitched, his eyebrows narrowing on me. Fuck! I’m screwed. Does he know who I am? What should I do? What should I say? That the CEO of a famous brand wanted to work as an assistant? Omg! I thought my make-up skills were unmatched. I turned to the side and looked at myself in the reflective wall of the elevator. My face was carefully composed beneath layers of contour and a darker shade of lipstick. Different hair. Different posture. A different woman. At least that was what I thought. So how did he recognize me? The makeup totally transformed my face to a different person. “What’s wrong? You don’t like Violet?” he said and I exhaled quietly. My head turned in his direction and I forced a smile at him. “I think I will stick with Janet for now.” He raised his hand in a mocking surrender. “Whatever you want, Jay.” Jeez. Thank God. The elevator bell dinged, opened slowly and I stepped out beside Kendrick. And then I saw her. Brianna. Of course it would be her, because the universe hates me. For a second, my lungs forgot how to work. She stepped in as we stepped out. Our shoulders nearly brushed. I kept my gaze forward, praying the makeup, the hair, the new name—everything—was enough. The doors began to close. Please leave. Please don’t look at me. I prayed inwardly. A hand shot out, stopping them and the doors slid back open. My stomach dropped as she stepped out instead of riding up. Her heels clicked toward me. Before I could move, her fingers landed lightly on my shoulder and spun me around. Kendrick glanced at us, confusion written all over his face. “You,” she said slowly, eyes narrowing as they searched mine. “I know you.”FREDERICK I blinked at the screen, my brain unable to process the words I was reading, nor could it deny the fact that they were true. My head turned slowly in her direction, a horrified expression plastered on my face. She blinked in confusion and reached for my hand. “Frederick,” she said softly, her tone stained with fear. “You’re scaring me.” I stood up abruptly and grabbed her hands. “You need to live,” I whispered cautiously, “right now.” She glanced around for a moment before her eyes landed on me. “Why?” Without explanation, I pulled her slowly towards the door and muttered a “fuck!” when I realized I needed the key card to unlock it. “Leaving so soon?” Harley’s voice came from behind us. I turned slowly, tucking Valentina behind me. Harley sat on one arm of the couch, a dagger held firmly in her hand and a psychotic smile curled on her lips. “Harley, what are you doing?” I said. She crossed her legs. “What do you think?” My pulse spiked, my fingers form
VALENTINA My eyes darted around as we stopped in front of an apartment door in a hotel. This is where she lives? “Yeah, I live in a hotel.” Harley took the words right out of my mouth as she swiped her key card on the door. “I didn’t mean to—” “Nonsense,” she cut me off. “I’d also be surprised that such a beautiful and charismatic woman is living in a hotel. So no offense taken.” She said as the door slid open. I glanced at Frederick, and he gave me a reassuring smile. “Make yourself at home,” she said as we entered the apartment. I paused, taking in the spacious living area—the plush couch facing a sleek glass table, and the large windows spilling city lights across the polished floor. Frederick plopped down on the black couch in the living room, then patted a space next to him, signaling me to come over. Without hesitation, I walked over and sat beside him. He sighed deeply and loosened his tie. “Why are we here though?” I asked. “I can hear you,” Harley said f
VALENTINA As I walked into the mall beside Kendrick, I made a mental note to turn him down before this whole thing turned into something else. He claimed he doesn’t remember what transpired between him and his brother yesterday, but I know he’s lying. He’s willing to take his chances despite knowing I’m married to his brother. And without being told, I can easily decipher his motive behind his behavior—this is just a sibling fight for who gets the girl, a game I’m not willing to take part in because I’m not a prize to be won by anyone. “What about this?” he said, dangling a dress before my eyes. “Do you like it?” I exhaled deeply and an unintentional eye roll escaped me. He smiled, undeterred by my gloomy expression. “Oh, you want something else?” I stepped closer to him, took the dress from him, and hung it on the rack. He stepped closer, invading my space with that familiar chaotic energy, causing my breath to hitch and making me swallow hard. “Look, I know what you’re tryin
VALENTINA“Mrs. Langston,” the security guard called as I made an attempt to step into the house. I turned and saw him jogging down to where I was.“Good morning ma’am,” his chest rose and fell rapidly, “someone’s here to see you.”Me? Nobody except Hannah knows I live here.“Male or female?” I asked, following him.“Female.”Hannah. It’s her for sure, but the question is—why was she here again? Did Nate do something stupid again? That’s not possible, he just got into prison this morning. The moment I got to the gate, I saw a familiar figure backing the gate, standing in front of a car, dressed all slutty as usual.Brianna—I didn’t need to see her face to know it was her, she’s the only person who would wear a strapless dress during the wintertime.“Why are you here?” I said, folding my arms. She flinched and turned around the moment she heard my voice. She fumbled with her bag, took off her glasses, her eyes blinking severely, like she didn’t believe it was actually me.She cleared h
VALENTINA Babe? “Harley, can we not do this right now?” He pinched his nose bridge. “Oh, I see.” She glanced at me, “You’ve got a girl back there.” Our gaze met, but I didn’t react, I simply brought out my phone and open tiktok to watch videos. I refused to be bothered by any of this. It’s not as if we were married for love or anything. And besides I’m not a hypocrite, I do remember clearly when I suggested that the contract shouldn’t get in the way of seeing someone else. “Can we talk later?” He said. She smiled, “8 pm today. No excuse.” she said, “come with enough protection and please…don’t be late.” Despite my will for self-control, I found myself clearing my throat, loud enough to interrupt their conversation. She looked at me, rolled her eyes, and scoffed. “Harley please stop making things sound sexual,” He said, “Nothing is going on between you and me. I will come pick it up by 8.” She glanced at me, her lips curling in a mocking sympathetic smile, “Sorry love, I g
VALENTINAI ignored the text and shoved the phone into my pocket, but of course Frederick noticed the uneasy feeling inside me.“Are you okay?” His hand fell on my left shoulder as we exited the building.I flinched and my neck snapped in his direction. “What? Yeah, I’m fine.” The words came out breathless, my fingers digging into my pocket.Hannah glanced at us and kept walking towards the car. From the look on her face, I knew she had so many questions for me, and I was already mentally preparing for them.He reached for my arm gently, my body coming to an abrupt stop. Then without warning he swirled me around and pulled me close to himself, our bodies only a few inches apart.“What are you doing?” I said, confused. His left hand found the small of my back, fingers spreading wide over the silk of my dress, warm through the thin fabric. He tugged me forward an inch, maybe less, until our bodies were almost flush. Faces inches apart. I could feel the heat rolling off him, the faint
VALENTINAI didn’t even remember getting dressed. One second I was staring at my phone, and the next I was pulling on the first clothes I could find, my fingers shaking as I grabbed my bag and rushed out of the mansion. The drive to the station felt endless. By the time I stepped out in front of Ce
VALENTINA “Come on,” Frederick’s voice pulled me from my thoughts. “Let’s go.” I looked up and saw him extending his hand to me. I placed my hand in his, and he helped me to my feet. Just before we left, I turned to his father, bowed slightly, and said, “It was nice meeting you, sir.” He smiled
VALENTINA I sat there pretending to enjoy the dinner but the tension in the room was so intense that my breath came out sharp—too loud. His father’s eyes watched me like a master of chess, trying to figure me out. Frederick’s hand had left my waist and he’s currently brushing them against my legs
