Ruby's POV
Teresa had left and now it was just me here, a sense of relief washed over me. Her bitter words and the tension between us had made the encounter unbearable. I couldn't help but feel grateful that she had left without hitting me this time, I was still recovering from the previous injuries I sustained from her hands.
As I sat on the bench in the garden, my thoughts turned to the secret meeting Drako was arranging between me and Alpha Ralph. I wondered if Teresa had somehow found out about my intentions to leave with the Alpha. She had come from the same direction that Drako had used when he left, and it made me uneasy.
I knew that competing with the bond of a father-daughter relationship was futile, and I had no way of knowing if they had met or if Drako had told her any of our plans. However, deep down, I trusted Drako with all that I had. It wasn't like I had a choice not to. He had been my pillar of support in this pack, and I believed he would never do anything to implicate me or make me suffer further.
I sighed, the weight of uncertainty pressing down on me. My life had become a tangled web of emotions and complicated relationships. I yearned for a fresh start, but I couldn't help but wonder if such a thing was even possible.
Just then, Drako emerged from the woods, his sudden appearance startling me. Behind him, the imposing figure of Alpha Ralph followed. I stood up immediately, my heart racing, there was no denying that he was Captivating.
"Alpha Ralph," I greeted him, trying to hide my nervousness behind a polite smile, one that was definitely forced.
Alpha Ralph returned my greeting with a warm smile, but it quickly faded into a frown as he turned to Drako. "Thank you for arranging this meeting, Drako."
Drako nodded, his expression serious. "You're welcome, Alpha Ralph."
Alpha Ralph's gaze shifted to me, and then he gestured in my direction. "I can't do this, Drako." He paused, his frustration evident in his tone. "I can't lower myself to hiding and escaping with her."
Drako's brow furrowed in confusion. "Do what, Alpha Ralph?"
Alpha Ralph turned to face me directly, his eyes conflicted. "I'm an Alpha, Drako. I should obtain what I desire with triumph and my head held high."
Drako sighed, understanding what Alpha Ralph said, but also the complexities of the situation. "I understand your position, Alpha Ralph. But please remember, this isn't your pack. Resources are limited here, and your fight with Gonzalo for Ruby is one you can't win in this territory."
Alpha Ralph's frustration seemed to deepen, and he paced back and forth, I could tell he was thinking. "I know, Drako, but I can't just take her and run. It's not how I thought of things, this isn't how I fight."
Drako stepped closer to Alpha Ralph, his voice gentle yet firm. "Sometimes, we have to adapt to our circumstances. Helping yourself and helping Ruby find a better life is the triumph here.". Alpha Ralph winced and Nodded.
There was a brief silence and then Darko walked towards me, slightly touching my hands. And then he looked at Alpha Ralph. "I'll let you two talk for a while." He said as he walked away, but not before he smiled warmly, I could see that he was exhausted.
"Drako, wait." Alpha Ralph's voice stopped him in his tracks.
Drako paused and turned back to face Alpha Ralph, curiosity in his eyes. "Yes, Alpha Ralph?"
Alpha Ralph's gaze bore into Drako's, and he asked a question that had been lingering in his mind. "Why are you doing this, Drako? Why are you helping Ruby escape from this pack?"
Drako's lips curved into a warm smile as he answered, "Alpha Ralph, Ruby is like a daughter to me. Well, I wish she were my daughter. Maybe then she wouldn't have had to go through all the suffering she's endured. I want to help her get out of this hellhole and find a better life."
Alpha Ralph nodded in understanding, his respect for Drako evident. "I appreciate your sincerity, Drako."
Drako's expression turned serious as he fixed his gaze on Alpha Ralph. "Just one request, Alpha Ralph. Promise me you won't hurt her. She's been through enough."
Alpha Ralph met Drako's gaze with a solemn nod. "I promise, Drako. I'll protect her with my life."
********
As Drako left us alone, I couldn't help but feel a mix of gratitude and nervousness. I was now alone with Alpha Ralph, and the thought of our upcoming decision hung in the air.
Alpha Ralph turned to me with a warm smile, the expression on his face was much softer than when we had met at the pack meeting. He reached into his bag and brought out some fruits and food, offering them to me. "I thought maybe you'd be hungry."
My stomach rumbled loudly, betraying my hunger. I nodded appreciatively, realizing how famished I was. We both sat down, and I began to eat, though my anxiety made it difficult to focus on the food. I couldn't stop staring at Alpha Ralph, still trying to process the fact that he was here, offering me a way out of my current life.
After a few moments of silence, Alpha Ralph spoke, his voice gentle. "I'm sorry."
I blinked in surprise, not expecting an apology. "Sorry? For what?"
Alpha Ralph sighed, his expression sincere. "I'm sorry for what I said earlier, about not being able to do this. My pride got the best of me, and it was unfair to you."
I was taken aback by his apology. I had never heard an Alpha apologize before, let alone apologize to me. "I...I appreciate your honesty, Alpha Ralph. Thank you."
He smiled warmly, his eyes holding a kindness that hadn't been present during our initial encounter. "Call me Ralph, please."
I nodded, a small smile forming on my lips. "Alright, Ralph."
Ruby's POVAlpha Ralph, or rather, Ralph, took my hand gently, his touch surprisingly tender. His eyes held a reassuring warmth as he spoke softly, "Ruby, you don't need to hide anything from me. I'll provide for you everything you need, and no one will hurt you anymore."Tears welled up in my eyes at his words, and I blinked them back, my emotions overwhelming me. I quickly looked down, avoiding his gaze, unable to hide the tears that escaped. It had been so long since anyone had shown me genuine kindness and concern.Ralph didn't let me retreat into myself. He gently cupped my face with his hand, his thumb brushing away the tears that fell. "It's going to be a new start for you, Ruby. You don't have to be afraid anymore."His words wrapped around me like a comforting embrace, and I couldn't help but believe him. It was a promise of a future free from the torment and isolation that had plagued me for so long.I looked up at him, my eyes searching his for any sign of deceit, but all I
Ruby's POVThe journey to Alpha Ralph's pack, the Night Crest Pack, had been surprisingly smooth. The escape from Silverwood had gone off without a hitch, thanks to Alpha Ralph's strength. He had made quick work of the werewolves who were sent to stop us from leaving. His fighting skills were ruthless, and he showed no mercy as he defeated each opponent. We traveled further away from Silverwood, I couldn't help but think of the chaos we had left behind. Gonzalo had received false information about our whereabouts and had led his pack members in the wrong direction. They had ended up heading towards Alpha Ralph's other pack members, and all I could guess happened would be nothing short of a blood bath. Alpha Ralph had managed to defeat them, but not without casualties on both sides. It was a harsh reminder of the violent world we were leaving behind. Gonzalo had attacked and killed some of Alpha Ralph's pack members in his misguided pursuit of us.By the time Gonzalo realized his err
Ruby's POVElena, led me away from the crowd, her firm grip on my hand. The murmurs of the pack members lingered in the air, but I chose to keep my gaze fixed on the ground, avoiding their curious stares. As we walked in silence, I couldn't help but be captivated by the beauty of Alpha Ralph's pack. It was a striking contrast to Silverwood, and the sheer size of it drew my attention. The landscape was vast and bubbling with life, a stark departure from the isolation and misery I had experienced in my former pack. Our journey eventually led us to a massive cabin that could have easily been mistaken for a mansion. While it had an air of age to it, the structure stood strong, crafted entirely from wood. I sighed with relief as Elena opened the cabin door for me to enter. The interior of the cabin was spacious and well-maintained. It had a rustic charm that was both welcoming and comforting. I stepped inside the cabin "Thank you?". I whispered under my breath. Even though we hadn't excha
Ruby's POVStepping out of the bathroom and wrapping a towel around myself, I entered the room. My gaze fell upon the bed, there was a pile of different clothes and underwear neatly laid out. Elena had thoughtfully given me the opportunity to choose, a rare luxury I hadn't experienced in a long time. My eyes settled on a gray dress, I had a thing for dark colors, that way I don't get attention on myself. As I dressed, I couldn't help but steal glances at the full-length mirror in the room. It was the first time in a while that I had seen my entire reflection. I stared at my skinny frame and frowned at the sight. I wondered what Alpha Ralph saw in me, why he had chosen to save me from the misery of Silverwood, the thought of him having me as his mate still sent shivers down my spine, I hadn't fully thought of it yet. Turning to the side, I noticed picture frames on a nearby table. Among the photos of Elena, I saw two older-looking people whom I assumed were her parents. A pang of lon
Ruby's POVElena and I began to eat, I couldn't help but notice that her gaze was fixed on me. It made me self-conscious, and my fingers fumbled with the knife and fork. In Silverwood, we didn't use utensils, or at least I didn't ; I ate with my hands and often scavenged for leftovers. This new world of formal dining felt foreign and uncomfortable.Elena finally cleared her throat, breaking the silence. "You have a very nice pendant," she remarked, her voice soft and curious. I looked down at the pendant hanging around my neck, a small, silver trinket with intricate engravings. It was a keepsake from my father, and it held some kind of value, maybe I would get something off it in the future, I hope. "Yeah, thank you," I replied, my fingers lightly touching the pendant. Elena's interest increased my curiosity, but I was unsure about revealing the pendant's significance. I didn't know how the Night Howlers Pack would view a rogue wolf like my father."Does it mean anything to you?" She
Gonzalo's POVIt was clear that tensions were running high. Drako stood before the panel, his hands tightly bound behind his back. We were interrogating him about Ruby's sudden disappearance, and his continuous denial only fueled my anger."I don't know what you are talking about!" Drako shouted back at me, his resolve evident in his eyes."You fucking liar!" I screamed at him, my frustration getting the best of me. Spit flew from my mouth as I spat in his direction. "Respect my boy." My father's voice boomed from behind me."Even though he might have committed treason, you should still respect him, he is still your beta.""Fuck that." I said under my breath.Turning back to Drako, my father's voice carried a weight of authority as he addressed the beta. "You better tell the truth now, Drako. Did you or did you not help the girl?"Darko's gaze lifted to meet our Alpha's stern eyes. "Alpha, you've got to believe me," he pleaded, desperation in his voice. "I was on the other side of the
Ruby's POVElena's voice rang out, inviting Alpha Ralph and Vance into the room. A hint of nervousness clung to me as they entered. This was all so new, and I felt like an outsider in this new world.Alpha Ralph, tall and imposing, took the lead as he always did. Vance, his loyal beta, followed closely behind. They joined Elena and me at the dining table, where I had been nervously nibbling on my food, trying not to draw too much attention to myself. Elena, ever gracious, extended the offer for them to join us.Alpha Ralph agreed with a warm smile, his presence both intimidating and oddly comforting. Vance, however, seemed a bit dense to my unspoken message. I hesitated, unsure whether to move or stay put. After a moment, Alpha Ralph cleared his throat, and it was clear he understood my discomfort. "Vance," he said calmly, "would you kindly get up so Ruby can sit by my side?""Oh, yes Alpha." Vance said as he jumped up immediately, his obedience swift and unquestioning. I felt a mixtu
Ruby's POVI could still feel the warmth of his lips even after he had left. I turned to see Elena grinning mischievously and winking at me. Her teasing smile made my cheeks flush, and I couldn't help but smile back awkwardly."Why are you smiling like that?" I asked, still flustered from the unexpected kiss.Elena leaned in closer, her eyes gleaming with curiosity. "You two must be something special," she said, her voice carrying a hint of excitement.I sighed, not quite sure where to begin or how much to divulge. It was complicated, to say the least. "Well, I guess... It's kind of complicated," I replied, choosing my words carefully.Elena scooted even closer on the sofa, her interest piqued. "Tell me about it," she urged..I took another moment to gather my thoughts, still uncertain about how much to disclose. Finally, I decided to share a bit but not go into too much detail. "Well," I began slowly, "I was in Silverwood, and things got pretty bad there. I met Alpha Ralph, and he...
