Zara sat up and stared at the ceiling.

Valkyrie was asleep three feet away, breathing with the deep, unbothered rhythm of someone whose conscience was entirely clear. Denice was curled beside her, one hand tucked under her cheek.

She thought about waking them.

She ran through how that conversation would go.

'Wake up guys, the Shadow King no longer needs Kael's body to reach me and we have significantly less time than we calculated but don't forget we have to go to war tomorrow with Kael's dad
