Layla POV

I tried to contain my disappointment from what felt like a rejection.  I started to step away when Rafe quickly pulled me back into his arms.  “I am sorry, that came out wrong.  I had a message from my Beta that I am needed back at the East Forest Pack immediately.  There have been rogue attacks lately and it appears the rogues took advantage of my being away to strike again,” Rafe shared.

“We have spare guards we can send back with you,” my father suggested.  I was pleased that my father had offered this.  He was demonstrating that he would be looking at the East Forest Pack to become an ally of the Kingdom.  I knew, based on their location, that they were not currently a part of our allies.

“That is not necessary, Prince Eric, but I truly appreciate the offer.  We have some allies locally who have been supporting our efforts in thwarting the rogues.  We work tightly as a community and will be able to shut down the rogues sooner than later,” Rafe replied confidently.

My father smiled, “If you ever change your mind, you know where to find us.”.   “That is very gracious of you,” Rafe stated.  Rafe looked at me, “I must go back to my hotel and get some things organized with my pack.  I do not want to rush our time together so I will pick you up early tomorrow morning so that we can head back to our pack,” Rafe shared.

“I like the sounds of that,” I murmured as Rafe pulled me close.  “Which part?” he asked.  “The part where we are going back to our pack and that we are not rushing our mating and marking,” I commented.  My parents had discreetly stepped away, giving us some privacy.

I could not believe how easily being so open with my mate was.  “Let me walk you to the door,” I suggested, as Rafe nodded his head, “I would appreciate that.”.  We stepped outside and I could see a vehicle waiting to take him away.

“I do not want you to leave me,” I whispered.  Rafe pulled me close, “It will only be a few hours and then we will be together forever,” he promised as he captured my lips in a promising kiss.  He groaned as he released my lips, “I must leave or I will not be able to,” he murmured.

“I would like it if you stayed,” I restated.  He chuckled, “Soon, I promise, we will be together,” he noted as he moved away from me and hurried down the stairs.  Before he entered the vehicle he turned back and waved.  As I waved, he quickly got into the SUV and waved once more before the vehicle drove off.

I wiped the tears from my eyes, feeling the nervous excitement for the adventure, I was about to embark on.  “Come inside, Layla.  We need to get a couple things packed for you before your mate arrives first thing tomorrow,” my mother encouraged.  She was right.

After a brief sleep, my alarm was dragging me from my sleep.  I slowly got out of bed.  I should be bouncing around but something felt off.  Dismissing the feeling, I quickly remembered my mate was coming early to get me.  I quickly showered and put on a cute sundress that I hoped Rafe would appreciate.  I blew out my hair, leaving it down.

I bounced down the stairs and right into my mate’s arms.  As he had promised, it was not long before I saw him again.  He looked a little tired, “Did you have a long night?” I inquired unable to hide the concern from my voice.  “It was nothing I cannot handle,” he promised.

He kissed me briefly, before looking at my parents, “We must get ready and go; we have a long drive ahead of us,” Rafe stated.  I was disappointed.  I had hoped to have breakfast with my family before we left.  My mother noticed my disappointment, “You are sure you cannot stay for breakfast?” she asked.

“Unfortunately, no,” he replied quickly.  “Let me get you some muffins for the drive,” my mother suggested, as my mate smiled.  “Of course, that would be lovely,” Rafe responded.  I went to help my mother, as Rafe called out, “Do not be too long.”.  I smiled, loving that my mate hated being away from me.

We quickly put some things in a bag, and we walked back out hand in hand.  My mother pulled me into her arms, “You be safe, and have a wonderful start to your life with Rafe,” my mother encouraged.  My brother hugged me quickly, while Rafe smiled, “I will miss you sis, have fun and make sure you call often!”, Lucas encouraged.

I got to my dad, and I could not help the tears that fell, “You be the strong she-wolf I know you are, baby girl,” my dad said as his throat tightened with emotion.  “You take care of my little girl, or you will have to deal with me,” my father vowed to Rafe, only half joking.  “I will guard her with my life,” Rafe vowed.

We moved outside and to the vehicle.  Rafe helped me into the SUV before moving to his side of the vehicle.  I looked at my parents as tears rolled down my cheeks.  It was a bittersweet moment as I waved goodbye to them.  I knew I would see them often.

As we crossed the territory border, I turned to Rafe and said, “I am so excited to be your Luna, what should I know about the pack?” I asked excitedly.  I heard nothing but the deafening sound of a crack across my cheek.

Layla POV He left me broken on the floor in the dining hall. Everyone had watched him whip my back, but nobody had tried to stop him. I lay there, tears rolling down my cheeks. “How did I end up here?” I whispered. I tried to sit up, but my back was screaming at me to stay still. The woman who was training me, moved slowly towards me. “Are you okay?” she asked quietly. I closed my eyes, “Are you going to pretend you care?” I questioned bitterly. “I did not believe he would do that,” she whispered. “Believe it,” I responded coldly as I opened my eyes. I looked at her and was surprised to see concern on her face. “Let me help you up,” she offered, as she moved towards me cautiously. She reached out to take my arm. I gasped in pain, as she tugged me forward. I rose to my knees, and paused to breathe through the pain, “I am sorry,” she murmured as she pulled me forward t

  • Rejecting Her Alpha Mates   Chapter 5 - Reality

Layla POV I woke to cold water being poured over my body. I jumped up, coughing and wiping the water from my face. I had been in this hell for over a week. I had not been able to speak with my parents. My mate intercepted their calls. I wondered if they were concerned and if they were going to demand to see me. He had taken my cell phone when we had arrived at his pack the morning we arrived. “That is my property!” I screamed as I thought back to the moment. He roared, punching me in the face, and then in my stomach, taking the wind from my body. I fell to the ground, but he had grabbed a fistful of my hair, dragging me up the stairs towards his pack house. The pack house was small, and dark. The grounds were not kept. “I am talking to you slave!” the woman yelled before me, as she slapped my wet face bringing me back to the present. I quickly refocused and paid attention. She had been “train

  • Rejecting Her Alpha Mates   Chapter 4 - Shock

Layla POVBefore I knew it, I was grabbing my throbbing cheek and looking at my mate with tears in my eyes in complete shock. I tried to mind-link my father to help me, but I was blocked, immediate pain shooting through my head advising me that something was curbing my ability to communicate with my family. “Do not even bother to try,” the man, my mate, sitting beside me said. He straightened his cuffs, as if he was inconvenienced by hitting me. I continued to stare at him as he glanced my way. “Cut the crap, princess. You can get used to that type of treatment if you do not quickly learn your place,” Rafe stated. “I am a princess. I come from a royal line. I am a strong she-wolf,” I stated coldly. I had shifted before we left, and I was a white wolf. A white wolf who had many talents to develop, as my wolf, Sunny, had promised me. The man simply chuckled as did the driver, who was driving us towards this man’s pack.

  • Rejecting Her Alpha Mates   Chapter 2 - No

Layla POV I moved forward cautiously. I felt the attraction of a fated mate, but something was missing. I closed my eyes, as his hands held my face. He gently touched my lips, capturing them in a light kiss. This was my first kiss, and it was not what I had expected. Agreeably, feeling the faint sparks between us added to the experience. He paused as I opened my eyes, before capturing my lips in another kiss. This kiss allowed him to explore my mouth. His tongue slid through my lips, tasting me as his nibbled at my tongue. His minty breath was becoming intoxicating, and I was immediately lost in the moment. Everyone around us disappeared until it was only the two of us. “Get a room,” my twin teased me through our mind-link. Red faced, I stepped back and my mate chuckled. He took hold of my hand while we turned towards my parents. “Prince Eric, Princess Julia,” my mate said as he bowed slightly

  • Rejecting Her Alpha Mates   Chapter 1 - Mate!

Layla POV I had been waiting for this moment my whole life. Turning eighteen was the moment every wolf anticipated. The night a wolf gets their wolf and shifts for the first time. “You are stunning, Layla,” my mom, Julia, said to me. “Thanks, Mom,” I replied as I twirled in front of the mirror. My father, Eric, was also here and he looked away for a moment. I could tell he was getting a little emotional, so I politely ignored him and applied some more lip gloss. Once he had composed himself, he turned back to me and presented me with a jewelry box. “Is that what I think it is?” I asked excitedly. I was practically bouncing in front of him. He smiled, opening the box. I gasped, even though I knew what it was. It was a necklace and the matching earrings from the family heirlooms. They were my favourite. Tears filled my eyes, “You have earned them, Layla,” my father stated.
