Layla POV I had been waiting for this moment my whole life. Turning eighteen was the moment every wolf anticipated. The night a wolf gets their wolf and shifts for the first time. “You are stunning, Layla,” my mom, Julia, said to me. “Thanks, Mom,” I replied as I twirled in front of the mirror. My father, Eric, was also here and he looked away for a moment. I could tell he was getting a little emotional, so I politely ignored him and applied some more lip gloss. Once he had composed himself, he turned back to me and presented me with a jewelry box. “Is that what I think it is?” I asked excitedly. I was practically bouncing in front of him. He smiled, opening the box. I gasped, even though I knew what it was. It was a necklace and the matching earrings from the family heirlooms. They were my favourite. Tears filled my eyes, “You have earned them, Layla,” my father stated.

Layla POV I tried to contain my disappointment from what felt like a rejection. I started to step away when Rafe quickly pulled me back into his arms. “I am sorry, that came out wrong. I had a message from my Beta that I am needed back at the East Forest Pack immediately. There have been rogue attacks lately and it appears the rogues took advantage of my being away to strike again,” Rafe shared. “We have spare guards we can send back with you,” my father suggested. I was pleased that my father had offered this. He was demonstrating that he would be looking at the East Forest Pack to become an ally of the Kingdom. Layla POV I woke to cold water being poured over my body. I jumped up, coughing and wiping the water from my face. I had been in this hell for over a week. I had not been able to speak with my parents. My mate intercepted their calls. I wondered if they were concerned and if they were going to demand to see me. I remembered meeting them. At first, I had thought they might be my mates. Then things went sideways and I ended up with Rafe. “Who are you?” I questioned, my mind still a blur. “My name is Samuel and this is my brother Jason,” the man named Samuel stated. “We are the Alphas of the Dark Forest Pack,” Jason added. “I need a phone,” I stated, as both men looked at one another. “We cannot do that yet,” Jason stated. “Why not?” I demanded, frustration building inside of me. “You are not safe, with Alpha Rafe still searching for you,” Samuel advised me. “What?
