Chapter 2

Author: Washing Wheat
I struggled to my feet, enduring the pain, and slapped Fred on the face.

"You're actually hitting me because of her? Have you forgotten that you're only able to attend college because my family is funding your tuition and living expenses, you ungrateful mongrel? In that case, let's break up. You can be with your precious Lyra from now on."

Fred's expression immediately changed when he heard I wanted to break up with him.

"What are you doing, Jade? Lyra is like a little sister to me, and you'll be her sister-in-law one day. Isn't it only natural for you to take care of her? I'm only doing this so you can better integrate into my family."

I smirked and said coldly, "Do I really look that stupid? We're breaking up, so I don't have to integrate into your family or take care of your so-called little sister anymore."

With that, I grabbed my bag and turned to leave.

Fred, provoked by my words, started cursing.

"Who else can stand your rotten attitude besides me, you spoiled brat? All you do is humiliate me with your stinking money. You're always acting so high and mighty and show others no respect. You deserve to be alone forever!"

I couldn't help but laugh.

When Fred spent lavishly with my credit card, he sure didn't think it was humiliating. When I gave him gifts worth thousands, he accepted them happily, never showing any displeasure.

I took out my phone and immediately canceled the supplementary credit card I set up for him, and contacted a friend who worked at the bank to help me print out the payment statements of that card.

He thinks it's humiliating? Then he can return all the "humiliation" to me.

I still felt uneasy that night, so I decided to drive home.

After I parked the car in the underground garage, I heaved a sigh of relief.

Surely Lyra wouldn't be able to drive my car away now.

That night, before I went to bed, I received a call from the hospital.

"Miss Willow, your eye exam results are in."

My eyes had been hurting and blurry for the past few days, so I went for a checkup.

The doctor said, "Your corneas are severely detached, and your retinas are also damaged. You need to have your corneas removed."

Hearing that, I trembled.

The doctor must have noticed my turbulent emotions and continued, "Miss Willow, we'll try our best to secure a cornea donor for you, but your eyes need surgery as soon as possible, or your condition will get worse and the surgery will become more difficult."

After hanging up, I called my parents and told them my condition.

My mother immediately comforted me, telling me not to be afraid and that she would do her best to find a cornea donor.

After hanging up, I didn't sleep all night. The next day, when I was about to go out, I suddenly noticed that the car I drove to college yesterday was gone.

I suddenly had a bad premonition.

I immediately picked up my phone and called the hospital.

"I've made up my mind. I'll have the surgery today. I don't want to keep delaying it until it gets serious."

After I called to tell my parents that I was having surgery today, they brought four ophthalmologists to the hospital to help me prepare for the surgery.

Two hours later, I was lying in the operating room. As the anesthesia kicked in, I looked at the camera next to the operating table and smiled.

Five hours later, I woke up to darkness.

I felt a little scared and reached out my hand, only to have someone grab it.

"Jade, you're awake. How do you feel? Do your eyes hurt?"

Hearing my mother's trembling voice, I immediately felt relieved.

"I'm fine. I'm just not used to the darkness yet."

My mother hugged me.

"Don't worry, Jade. We've already started looking for corneas for you. We should be able to find a pair soon. The hospital said that after three months, you can have another surgery and recover."

I nodded. My mother fed me while asking, confused, "Why did you want to have the surgery so urgently?"

I paused for a moment and smiled.

"I just wanted to do it as soon as possible so that it wouldn't develop into something serious and I can recover quickly."

My mother nodded. In the evening, I suggested going out to get some fresh air.

The doctor agreed to let me go out, but I had to come back within an hour to change the dressing.

The nurse helped me walk to a small park next to the hospital.

I tried to retreat, but my whole body was tightly bound, so I couldn't move.Lyra pulled me down.I struggled desperately while warning them, "Lyra, we look completely different. There's no way you can replace me. Do you think my parents and the police are fools?"Lyra pinched my face, a smirk of triumph in her eyes."Since you're going to die soon, I don't mind telling you our plan."Lyra turned to Fred.Fred took out two human skin masks and two strange-looking worms."Jade, even though you dated Fred for such a long time, you don't even know that he's the heir of a native tribe. Replacing you is a piece of cake for him. He just needs to insert this worm into your body, and the human skin mask will merge with you. You will then become me, and I will become you. Even the blood will change; at that point, not even a DNA test can discover the truth. Once we've swapped places, you'll die from a heart attack, and Lyra Suggs will cease to exist in this world. Don't worry, I'll live

A month later, my bandages were removed. After the doctor checked and confirmed that I had recovered, he agreed to discharge me from the hospital. After leaving the hospital, I rested at home for a week. It was then already the end-of-semester break. The teacher informed me that I should have my parents go to the dorm to pack up my things. I had to move dorms next semester, so all the things had to be taken away.I nodded in response. The next day, I went to college in person to pack up my belongings. Other students saw me and immediately gathered around."Jade, it's really you. Are your eyes okay?"I smiled and nodded, "They're almost healed."My roommates helped me pack and gossiped with me. "Jade, do you know what's going on with Fred? I heard that he owes a lot of money. The creditors even came to the college to look for him, but he's disappeared. He hasn't been attending classes for a while."Hearing this, my hand stopped, and then I shook my head and said, "I already broke

That evening, I received a call informing me the underground garage surveillance video had been repaired.I immediately called the police, and that night, Lyra was arrested. The surveillance video of the underground garage showed Lyra driving away with my car. Moreover, a human skin mask was found in Lyra's home.Upon receiving this news, I heaved a sigh of relief. The maid was arrested for theft, and I instructed my lawyer to press charges against her. That evening, Fred came to see me again.Suppressing his anger, he said, "Jade, you have to help my mother and Lyra. Lyra is still so young, she can't go to prison or her life will be ruined."I waved him over. After he came closer, I grabbed the glass of water on the table and splashed him."Do you even hear what you're saying? She can't go to prison? She killed a pregnant woman and destroyed a family, not to mention an elderly too. After that, you guys tried to frame me for her crime. How dare you show your face here and ask

I immediately frowned."What are you doing here? Get out, I don't want to see you."Fred scoffed."Stop throwing a tantrum already. How can you cancel the supplementary card just because I accidentally pushed you? What do you want me to do?"I was dumbfounded. I hadn't even confronted him about that incident, yet he dared to question me."Didn't you say that spending my money is a humiliation and you deserve respect? Then stop using my money. I respect you, so for the sake of your dignity, please pay me back the money you've spent over the years."Fred was stunned into silence."Jade, do you know what you're saying? You literally begged to support me financially and even gave me a supplementary card so I could spend your money. How can you be so shameless and ask for the money back now?"I felt a laugh bubbling up. If I could see, I would have slapped him."You keep claiming that I humiliated you, so I'll grant you your wish. If you don't pay me back, I'll take legal action to

"I'm fine, Mom. See? I'm perfectly fine. The doctor said there's nothing wrong, so don't cry."My mother tightened her grip on my hand."Jade, your father and I have always treated you like a princess. You've never suffered this kind of injustice before. Why didn't you tell me? I can't believe they actually bullied my daughter like that. I'll definitely get to the bottom of this."I held my mom and gently patted her back."Sorry for making you worry, Mom."She embraced me back, softly saying, "You silly girl, what are you saying? From now on, you must tell me everything. I'll support you no matter what. I've already contacted a lawyer. I won't let anyone who scolded you or laid a finger on you get away with it."Hearing this made me recall certain memories from my previous life. After I died, my parents rushed over in a panic but found only my cold corpse. Their hair turned gray overnight. They looked like they aged decades.Yet, they tirelessly sought evidence to prove my inno

Immediately, someone screamed, "Ah, her eyes!"At this, the police and everyone present were stunned. My eyes were pale and cloudy, clearly I had lost my sight.A person asked, "If she can't see, how can she drive a car and then run away after hitting someone? That makes no sense."The nurse immediately stepped forward to protect me, looking anxious."Miss Willow, are you okay? Are you hurt?"I frowned."My eyes are a little painful."The nurse held me."I'll call the doctor right away to get you checked again."I nodded. I felt the nurse turn to the others and say, "Miss Willow performed a cornea removal surgery at our hospital earlier today, so there's no way she's the hit-and-run driver you're looking for. You're acting violently against my patient without any solid evidence. If anything were to happen to Miss Willow's eyes, can any of you handle the consequences?"The victim's family looked a little apologetic."I'm sorry, I acted rashly. My wife and child were killed, a
