Ever since Nicholas promoted me to Assistant Chief Editor, he had been coming to our floor to check on me. Sometimes we would go out to eat lunch and sometimes he would order someone to get something for us.
Throughout those days, I learned a lot about him and his family. I learned that his parents separated when he was a child and his mother took him away, he never saw his father again.
I also learned about his stepfather and stepsister, he said they were nice and he loved them. He made joke with me that one day he would take me to see them, hence I asked him WHY and he told me because I was special.
Today after a brief meeting in the conference room, Lena approached me and asked if we could have a talk in private. I didn't like the idea of us being alone in private but also didn't want to turn down her request down, so I agreed.
We went to the washroom and she told me people were already talking about me and Nicholas, that we wer
The following day, as promised, Nicholas came to pick me up. Unfortunately he wasn't able to see my mom because she didn't return back yesterday, she must have slept at work or at a friend's house.Verily I couldn't reach her on phone in time and when I eventually did she told me she was fine. She didn't mention her whereabout though, and I never really cared to ask so far she's safe and sound.I prepared breakfast for both me and Nicholas, after which he drove us both to work. This time around I was conformable driving with him, and the rumblings of the engine of his L-spot didn't bother me like it used to.With each u-turn made, I would glance at him. And with each word he uttered, I would found myself smiling and craving to hear more of his voice. What was wrong with me? What was with the sudden change in me?When we arrived at work, people stared at us as we headed to separate elevators. Actually I used to feel uncomforta
When Nicholas asked if I would like to be his secretary, I was overwhelmed. However I rejected the offer because I didn't want Jennifer, his current secretary to be angry.Hence I told him to just leave me in my office as the assistant chief editor, after all I was already used to the editorial board. But you know, Nicholas hardly take NO for an answer. He insisted I must work in his floor, he suggested many offices for me to which I eventually decided to choose the office of the chief advisor. He smiled and told me he had always wanted restructuring the office. His words made me to puzzle, "I hope you are not going to replace anybody there with me?" I asked out of curiosity."Why not? I mean, the chief advisor is old already. You would be his perfect replacement, Stella" he said."No, I would be a big mess. Already my best friend, Lena isn't happy with me. Do you want me to keep having enemies? I don't want that
Nicholas and I became so close to each other ever since he promoted me to his floor, prompting other staff to wonder what was going on between us.I used to worry about what others think but not anymore, Lena had taught me how not to give a damn about nosy staff members. She was one of them and I had learned how to ignore her already.Yesterday Nicholas persuaded me to introduce him to my mother which I did. They met and we had dinner together. When he left, she told me we were a perfect match. I was so happy, overly happy.Albeit she warned me against spreading my legs for him, she said that should be after tying the knot. She actually didn't want me to end up in her shoes. How she got me, she wouldn't want me to give birth to someone that way.Today while in my office going through some files, the chief editor came to my office. He greeted me and then told me Nicholas sent him to get a document from me.Hopefully, the document was in one of the f
Nicholas took me out today, we went to so many places around the city before finally going to his apartment to rest.He was living in one of the luxurious apartment buildings in the town and he was living alone. No cook, no friends, just him and himself. He doesn't have much in his kitchen, so I wasn't able to make something for us when we arrived. So bad, he had to place and order for something. He ordered for pizza from the nearby restaurant which arrived late, he nearly send the delivery man away with it when it arrived but I managed to calm him down. While eating in the couch and watching a romantic movie, Nicholas decided to tell me more about his life. Starting from the girls he dated.I never really knew he dated girls before hence, I paid attention while he narrated everything to me. He started with his first girlfriend, Josephine. He told me how they met at high school and fell in love. Unfortunately, their lo
Ever since Lena went on break, things had been moving swiftly in the editorial board. Nobody to seek for perfection from anybody, unlike when she was around. I had talked to few editors there and they told me they were happy with her absence, and would love to see her taken to another department when she eventually returns. Well, I'd only smiled and told them things would be fine. I had it in mind she would do better next time because I believed she had learned her lessons already. Today was a hectic day, Nicholas met with the executives of MountainTimes to talk about our merger. I was actually by his side in the conference room and we spent hours before finally ending the meeting. The MountainsTimes wanted their CEO to be the Chairman or Managing Director of our company after the merger, and their Chief Editor to be our Deputy Chief Editor. Which means Lena and others may possibly lose their positions. They wanted everything to be fair and Ni
With each passing day, Nicholas and I became more closer to each other. We wouldn't go a day without seeing each other, it had become mandatory for us to meet these days.We mostly take our lunch and dinner together, sometimes in his apartment and sometimes in my mom's house. My mom also used to bring officer Mike in for dinner, there was a time we all met and dined together. That day he picked interest in knowing almost everything about Nicholas, he said his face looked familiar. Nicholas told him everything about himself and the two friendly shook hands.Today Lena returned back to work. She took both Nicholas and I by surprise. I mean, nobody knew she was coming back today. She met us in the conference room as we prepared to welcome the MountainTimes executives for our second meeting."Surprised to see me huh?" she giggled and continued, "Well I decided to return back today, home was so boring and mom and dad weren't helping"&nb
Lena insisted I narrate what had transpired between Nicholas and I to her but I couldn't bring myself to telling her about it despite how hard she tried to convince me. In the end, she decided to let me be...wishing me best of luck.Anyways, I thanked her for consoling me and then escorted her out. When I returned back, I felt guilty for shunning Nicholas. I shouldn't have told him to give me some space, I should have listened to him while he explained things to me.I was probably wrong about him using me, why did I failed to understand him? Initially I wasn't regretting what I did to him but right now I was beginning to blame myself for everything.I failed him, and I failed myself. I mulled over while staring at the diamond ring he gave me, it was glittering. I loved how it shined. Why would anyone make such an expensive proposal for fame? I wondered. When it was time for home I went straight to his office. I saw him relaxed in h
Few days after our company merger with MountainTimes, Lena's office was dissolved. She was then told to be the new senior editor, a very new position introduced by Nicholas which literally brought her a step backwards. She was now assistant to the Deputy Chief Editor, the position she was occupying before. The position was now handled by the former cheif editor of MountainTimes, Noah James. That really hurts her but she pretended to be fine. After all, there wouldn't be change in her monthly salary. Just the authority and office, which I guess wasn't something to worry about. She would no longer be reporting directly to the Chief Editor but to the Deputy Chief Editor, who in turn would report to the Chief Editor himself. That was the agreement between our company and the merged MountainTimes. It wasn't only the office of the editor, several other offices were touched too and same thing applied to the staff managing such offices. Nicholas on the day of the
