The man acknowledged me with a nod. "A trip into town for dog supplies is for tomorrow. There's a water bowl and a food bowl here. A leash, perhaps." Carton gave a shrug of his shoulders.

An intuitive scowl on Lanaya's face as she deliberated deeply. "Is a b-bed an option? Alternatively, t-toys"

"Those, too, are on the way. Even if I can't tell you where it is."

The dog scratched the floor when it attempted to lick the bowl clean. Carter walked in there, loaded it with water, and set it back down. Next, he put the toilet seat down. The dog drank clumsily, gulping noises that echoed through the room and spraying water everywhere.

May I ask you a question? When Carter had returned to his original post beside the entrance, he posed the question. Without meeting my gaze, she nodded. "No need to respond if you don't want to. When did you start stuttering again?"

A lump formed in her throat. The woman's ears began to ring with the sudden surge of blood. She gripped the blankets tightly.
