FAZER LOGINJessica POV
As tears filled my eyes, I quickly pulled my dress up and secured the neckline. I did not look at my father, nor the man who would be my chosen mate. I was nauseous and could not guarantee I would not vomit on both of them for what I had endured.
My father wrapped his hand around my arm. I could feel him bruising me, but it did not matter. I knew my purpose at being here was over and that we would be on our way out of here. The old Alpha left the room first, leaving me with my bastard of a father.
“You did well. Be sure to be that docile with the man when you marry him,” my father spit out. I was bitter at his words, but could not help begging him, “Please do not do this,” I started to say when he cut me off. “This is all you are good for. You will do this for our pack, and you will accept your fate. Nobody else would want you,” he responded, as tears rolled down my cheeks.
“Wipe your tears, we are leaving,” he said, as he tugged me towards the door. I did my best to wipe my tears as he pulled me outside into the main hall. “What do we have here?” I heard from behind us. I felt my father’s body tense as he tightened the grip on my arm.
He turned, and plastered a smile on his face, “Alpha, it is good to see you,” he responded. I glanced quickly to the man before us who was stunning. He was a gorgeous man, like nothing that I had seen before. “And who might this be?” he asked politely. My father’s body remained tense as he replied.
“This is my daughter, Jessica. Jessica, this is Alpha Trent,” he said as I looked briefly at the man. He held out his hand to shake mine. I knew my father would hate this, but I had no choice but to accept his hand. His hand quickly engulfed mine. While I knew it was a stretch, I had hoped I would feel sparks with this man. But I felt nothing.
I quickly released his hand, as my father nodded to the Alpha, “It was good to see you again; we should meet soon to discuss our continued alliance,” he said to the man. The man simply nodded, seeming to speculate what was going on between my father and me.
“Of course. Another time,” the Alpha responded before walking away. A part of me wanting to scream for help, but I knew it would be useless. These people knew a different man than I knew. My father was well respected by other packs. We were not the largest pack, but he ran a tight ship, and that was considered something in our world.
We turned to walked towards the door when the Luna stepped in front of us. “My dear, you look upset,” the Luna stated sharing genuine concern. “I apologize Luna, my daughter has taken ill,” my father said as he tried to walk around the Luna. “Oh my, please let me call our healer to look at her,” she replied as my father held up his hand, stopping her.
“That is not necessary. She takes these spells on occasion. She needs rest and then she will be fine,” my father responded. The lies managed to slip through his lips with ease. “Well, if you are certain,” the Luna stated uncertainty crossing her face.
“I am certain,” my father said, rudely cutting the Luna off. He pivoted me and walked me out the door without a second glance back. As we arrived at our car, he whipped me around, slapping my face. “You just could not wait to embarrass me, could you?” he yelled, as our driver opened the door for my father to shove me in the car.
I felt the turmoil inside of my body, as I knew what was to come. Before the door shut, my father was attacking me inside the car. All I could do was cower in the seat, as I accepted my fate.
Jessica POV We had been practicing everything for a few days and had not seen or heard anything from Elder Susan. I was both relieved and anxious. Relieved to not have to deal with her, but anxious wondering what she would do next to test me. “Again, Jessica,” I heard Cole call out. I shook my head and refocused. I would start shifting with the next training programs. The warriors were taking turns. The more we fought the stronger I was getting. And it was agreed that I could not hold back as we needed to know how strong I really was. I had also not found any new powers. That was also concerning me. How do I know how to fight if I do not know what powers I will have. Marly had been researching the white wolf as well in our history books. She had some things to share after training today. I was looking forward to seeing her and Everly, as my time with them had been limited the past couple weeks of training.
Cole POV We had spent most of the night waiting for news on the injured warriors. They had spent most of the night in surgery and it was only early morning that we learned they would make a full recovery after some time in physiotherapy. I knew Jessica was relieved, as we all were. It still bothered me that Elder Susan had done something this reckless. Carson and I were speaking in the hall, while Jessica visited with the partners of the injured warriors. “This is getting out of hand,” Carson commented quietly. “I do not understand why she thought this was a good idea,” I agreed. “Unfortunately, we need to cut her loose. We cannot have her here training with our warriors and Jessica. I no longer trust her,” Carson admitted. I paused for a moment, “I know Elder Susan is Jessica’s grandmother, but I believe Jessica will also agree Susan has overstayed her welcome,” I confirmed. “I do agree.
Jessica POV I had enjoyed the evening. Dancing with Cole for the first time. He held me in his arms and guided me, so I did not look like a complete fool. I was overwhelmed with the acceptance of the pack members. Many had come forward welcoming me, hugging me and showing me a side of people I had never experienced before. When the night was coming to an end, Cole suggested we retire to our room. I was ready for some alone time with my mate, when a frantic call came through the pack mind-link. “Rogues on the south side, rogues on the south side!” came the frantic call. I immediately turned and raced to the border with Cole by my side. As we approached the forest, we both shifted. I had a moment of sadness for the beautiful gown I had worn this evening, but I had more important things to focus on. “We can always get you a new dress, sweetheart,” Cole said through our mind-link. I sent him a
Cole POV I had felt the tension rising in Jessica through our bond. Knowing she was in distress, I immediately excused myself from the discussions with a Beta from one of our allies and made my way upstairs. I had met Carson on his way, surprised that he was also heading towards our suite. “I just had a message from Marly that Elder Susan was in your suite, causing some issues,” Carson shared. Elder Susan was starting to become a pain in my ass. I wanted to believe she had good intentions, but I had to question her motives the more she inserted herself in our lives. She had naturally been invited to this evening’s ceremony. It would have been unusual had we not invited her. We were working with her, and she was an Elder with an ally pack. There would be no reason not to include her. I did not expect her to be upsetting Jessica before her celebration. I saw Elder Susan leaving our suite, “Wha
Jessica POV Everything was happening in a whirlwind. Marly had helped me select a dress that I hoped would be appropriate. We picked out shoes I hoped I would not fall flat on my face in. And were now getting our make-up and hair done. Marly had refreshments brought in, which I appreciated as I was starving. “Are you doing okay, babe?” I heard Cole ask me through our mind-link. I sighed, “As good as can be expected,” I replied. Cole chuckled, “I cannot wait to see you,” he stated. I felt a moment of nervousness. I hoped I would make Cole proud. “You always make me proud, Jess,” he commented before closing our link. I smiled as I tucked away that moment. Every moment with Cole was special; each one just more special than the last. “We are almost ready,” Marly squealed as I sat there facing away from the mirror. I had not been permitted to see make-up or hair since the women had started.
Jessica POV The next morning was Saturday, and we were having breakfast with Marly and Carson. Everly was sleeping in her baby chair. I was convinced if all babies were this perfect, I would want one of my own. She was so peaceful and that peaceful feeling surrounded you when you were near her. Marly seemed to be more excited than usual, and Cole seemed like he was smirking at her. As if they were sharing a private secret. It should not have bothered me, but the jealousness I felt was real. And it was embarrassing. I knew they had always been close friends, but being left out stung a little. “You are never left out, and I love that you are jealous,” Cole chuckled through our mind-link. I growled through our link, annoyed that once again I had not kept my thoughts private. I needed to keep that at the front of my mind. “I think it is time to tell her, Marly,” Cole said with a smile. “Finally
Cole POV I was pacing in the hallway as we waited for Carson and Marly to show up. Jessica was sitting in the chair, seemingly calm but I knew she was as uptight as I was about this situation. I sat down, realizing I was not helping her by letting my emotions get the best of me.
Jessica POV I had spent the rest of the day touring around the pack with Cole. Everything he had shown me was exciting and new. We were eating an ice cream cone, when Cole burst out laughing. “What?” I asked, confused with what he was laughing at. He leaned forward and with hi
Jessica POV I scanned the hallway, looking for Cole. He said he would be with me, but I did not see him. Suddenly I felt sparks on my hand and looked down to see Cole had my hand in his. I looked up and he smiled at me, “I said I would be with you,” he reminded me.
Jessica POV I wanted to believe Cole, but I feared what would happen. I wanted to be free from this nightmare. I wanted to start looking forward to the life I hoped the Moon Goddess would believe I deserved. I sat here, feeling nervous being held in Cole’s arms.
