Se connecterJessica POV
As tears filled my eyes, I quickly pulled my dress up and secured the neckline. I did not look at my father, nor the man who would be my chosen mate. I was nauseous and could not guarantee I would not vomit on both of them for what I had endured.
My father wrapped his hand around my arm. I could feel him bruising me, but it did not matter. I knew my purpose at being here was over and that we would be on our way out of here. The old Alpha left the room first, leaving me with my bastard of a father.
“You did well. Be sure to be that docile with the man when you marry him,” my father spit out. I was bitter at his words, but could not help begging him, “Please do not do this,” I started to say when he cut me off. “This is all you are good for. You will do this for our pack, and you will accept your fate. Nobody else would want you,” he responded, as tears rolled down my cheeks.
“Wipe your tears, we are leaving,” he said, as he tugged me towards the door. I did my best to wipe my tears as he pulled me outside into the main hall. “What do we have here?” I heard from behind us. I felt my father’s body tense as he tightened the grip on my arm.
He turned, and plastered a smile on his face, “Alpha, it is good to see you,” he responded. I glanced quickly to the man before us who was stunning. He was a gorgeous man, like nothing that I had seen before. “And who might this be?” he asked politely. My father’s body remained tense as he replied.
“This is my daughter, Jessica. Jessica, this is Alpha Trent,” he said as I looked briefly at the man. He held out his hand to shake mine. I knew my father would hate this, but I had no choice but to accept his hand. His hand quickly engulfed mine. While I knew it was a stretch, I had hoped I would feel sparks with this man. But I felt nothing.
I quickly released his hand, as my father nodded to the Alpha, “It was good to see you again; we should meet soon to discuss our continued alliance,” he said to the man. The man simply nodded, seeming to speculate what was going on between my father and me.
“Of course. Another time,” the Alpha responded before walking away. A part of me wanting to scream for help, but I knew it would be useless. These people knew a different man than I knew. My father was well respected by other packs. We were not the largest pack, but he ran a tight ship, and that was considered something in our world.
We turned to walked towards the door when the Luna stepped in front of us. “My dear, you look upset,” the Luna stated sharing genuine concern. “I apologize Luna, my daughter has taken ill,” my father said as he tried to walk around the Luna. “Oh my, please let me call our healer to look at her,” she replied as my father held up his hand, stopping her.
“That is not necessary. She takes these spells on occasion. She needs rest and then she will be fine,” my father responded. The lies managed to slip through his lips with ease. “Well, if you are certain,” the Luna stated uncertainty crossing her face.
“I am certain,” my father said, rudely cutting the Luna off. He pivoted me and walked me out the door without a second glance back. As we arrived at our car, he whipped me around, slapping my face. “You just could not wait to embarrass me, could you?” he yelled, as our driver opened the door for my father to shove me in the car.
I felt the turmoil inside of my body, as I knew what was to come. Before the door shut, my father was attacking me inside the car. All I could do was cower in the seat, as I accepted my fate.
Cole POV I watched helplessly as Jessica panted through her shift. “What did you say?” she asked me. “I did not say anything?” I responded, hopeful that she might be hearing from her wolf. “Her wolf is starting to return,” Gunner, my wolf, stated excitedly. I wanted to hold Jessica, but I knew doing that would hinder her process. And I did not want to cause her more pain. She crawled away from me, now on her hands and knees. I kneeled beside her, “Do not fight it,” I encouraged as I watched her eyes fill with tears. “I cannot do this. I am not strong enough,” she whispered, as I watched her skin crawl with fur trying to release itself. Why was this taking so long? What was wrong? Was there still something inside blocking the shift? I had so many questions but without Marly here to answer some of them, I was lost. I watched in awe as I started to see her body finally start to take the shape of a
Jessica POV I was crushed knowing I had put Marly’s pup at risk. I had no idea what everything meant. Just that she had been injured trying to help me. Trying to help me in a cause that may be helpless. My arm was still burning but the ointment helped the bubbling skin. “Do you feel any different?” Cole asked. I shook my head. To my extreme disappointment, I had felt nothing differently. Not that I would know what different felt like. I had lived without my wolf, since I first heard from her. I did not know what it would be like to hear from her again. Would she be the same? Would she be damaged? Did whatever they had put inside of me cause long term damage? I had no idea and the thoughts, when I went there, just took me further down a dark rabbit hole. “She will be alright,” Cole murmured to me as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder. I wanted to relax into him, but I felt guilty. Like I did not des
Cole POV Everything was happening so fast. The man on the screen left immediately, not sticking around beyond stating the device had been stopped. Carson was shouting orders, as doctors scrambled to help Marly. She was raced out of the room, and suddenly it was very quiet. I looked to Jessica who was visibly exhausted, but looking as shocked as I was. I moved closer to her, “How are you feeling?” I asked, as she looked at me. “I do not know how I feel,” she replied, as I helped her sit up. She took her time, “I am a little dizzy,” she admitted. I let her stay there as she got her bearings, before she started to move once again. “What happened?” I asked her, wondering if she could piece together all that had transpired. “The spot where the second implant is, started burning – like it was cooking me from the inside out,” she explained. “And then suddenly, when Marly waved the wand across the spot where the im
Cole POV I was pacing in the hallway as we waited for Carson and Marly to show up. Jessica was sitting in the chair, seemingly calm but I knew she was as uptight as I was about this situation. I sat down, realizing I was not helping her by letting my emotions get the best of me. I took a hold of her hand and brought it to my lips. “I am sorry,” I murmured. As if drawing her from her own thoughts, she looked at me, startled. “What are you sorry for?” Jessica asked. “For not being calm,” I admitted, as a sense of disappointment rolled over me. “You have been everything I could have expected,” she replied, as she tightened her hand in mine. “I am terrified,” she admitted softly. “Of what?” I asked, wanting to hear what she was thinking. “What if this does not work? What if I have to try and live with knowing every move, I make my father will know? What if he steals me back?” Jessica said in a rush. “Whoa, w
Jessica POV I held my breath as I made my decision. I had to try something … anything to get rid of this thing inside of me. Knowing that my father could still track all my movements made me nauseous. Knowing we might be able to stop him, caused me a bit of joy. Marly moved forward and hugged me, while I slowly lifted my arms to return her hug. I was not used to physical touch, so it made me uncomfortable. I knew she was used to hugging so I realized I would have to get used to it. Before she could linger, I felt Cole gently pull Marly away and me into his arms. “Thank you,” he whispered against my ear. “For what?” I asked, confused by his words. “For choosing life; for picking us,” he responded. I looked at him and realized I was doing just that. I was picking us. I was making a choice that would affect both of us. And it was one he was entirely on board for. I slowly smiled as I returned his hug. His
Cole POV We reached Carson’s office and immediately shut the door after we had entered. Marly sat with Carson, while Jessica sat beside me. I reached over to take her hand, as her body was tense. Having heard Marly mention some disturbing news had changed the dynamics of our day. “First things first, it was great to see you outside and with Cole,” Marly said, smiling and happy. I knew she was wanting Jessica to want to be here almost as much as me. Jessica had a tight smile, allowing us all to recognize she was not interested in small talk. “What did you find out?” Jessica asked. Marly sat up, while Carson rubbed her lower back. “We cannot remove the devices, but we can dismantle them,” Marly replied as she watched both of us. “I want them removed,” Jessica said, not willing to hear anything else. “I wish it was that easy, but it is not,” Marly replied, concern lacing her words. “What do you mean you can tur
