Jessica POV

As tears filled my eyes, I quickly pulled my dress up and secured the neckline.  I did not look at my father, nor the man who would be my chosen mate.  I was nauseous and could not guarantee I would not vomit on both of them for what I had endured.

My father wrapped his hand around my arm.  I could feel him bruising me, but it did not matter.  I knew my purpose at being here was over and that we would be on our way out of here.  The old Alpha left the room first, leaving me with my bastard of a father.

“You did well.  Be sure to be that docile with the man when you marry him,” my father spit out.  I was bitter at his words, but could not help begging him, “Please do not do this,” I started to say when he cut me off.  “This is all you are good for.  You will do this for our pack, and you will accept your fate.  Nobody else would want you,” he responded, as tears rolled down my cheeks.

“Wipe your tears, we are leaving,” he said, as he tugged me towards the door.  I did my best to wipe my tears as he pulled me outside into the main hall.  “What do we have here?” I heard from behind us.  I felt my father’s body tense as he tightened the grip on my arm.

He turned, and plastered a smile on his face, “Alpha, it is good to see you,” he responded.  I glanced quickly to the man before us who was stunning.  He was a gorgeous man, like nothing that I had seen before.  “And who might this be?” he asked politely.  My father’s body remained tense as he replied.

“This is my daughter, Jessica.  Jessica, this is Alpha Trent,” he said as I looked briefly at the man.   He held out his hand to shake mine.  I knew my father would hate this, but I had no choice but to accept his hand.  His hand quickly engulfed mine.  While I knew it was a stretch, I had hoped I would feel sparks with this man.  But I felt nothing.

I quickly released his hand, as my father nodded to the Alpha, “It was good to see you again; we should meet soon to discuss our continued alliance,” he said to the man.  The man simply nodded, seeming to speculate what was going on between my father and me.

“Of course.  Another time,” the Alpha responded before walking away.  A part of me wanting to scream for help, but I knew it would be useless.  These people knew a different man than I knew.  My father was well respected by other packs.  We were not the largest pack, but he ran a tight ship, and that was considered something in our world.

We turned to walked towards the door when the Luna stepped in front of us.  “My dear, you look upset,” the Luna stated sharing genuine concern.  “I apologize Luna, my daughter has taken ill,” my father said as he tried to walk around the Luna.  “Oh my, please let me call our healer to look at her,” she replied as my father held up his hand, stopping her.

“That is not necessary.  She takes these spells on occasion.  She needs rest and then she will be fine,” my father responded.  The lies managed to slip through his lips with ease.  “Well, if you are certain,” the Luna stated uncertainty crossing her face.

“I am certain,” my father said, rudely cutting the Luna off.  He pivoted me and walked me out the door without a second glance back.  As we arrived at our car, he whipped me around, slapping my face.  “You just could not wait to embarrass me, could you?” he yelled, as our driver opened the door for my father to shove me in the car.

I felt the turmoil inside of my body, as I knew what was to come.  Before the door shut, my father was attacking me inside the car.  All I could do was cower in the seat, as I accepted my fate.

Jessica POV “I cannot do that,” I murmured, shock taking over my body. “There is no choice. You must,” the Elder countered. I shook my head, “He has information about my mother. I need that information,” I said, looking to Cole for help. He nodded reluctantly. “The Rogue King told her that her mother is still alive. She was told her mother died when she was born,” Cole shared with the Elder. “Is there another way to verify that information? The longer he lives, the better chance he has of taking over,” Elder Joseph commented. I felt overwhelmed. I wanted to do what was best for the pack, but I could not help but be selfish. If my mother was alive, I had questions. Why did she leave me? How could she have left me behind? I had so much anger and confusion as I tossed the concept of my mother being alive around in my head. “Carson – you need to question the Rogue King. Try and determine

Cole POV I pulled Jess into my lap, as we prepared for Elder Joseph’s visit. She was embarrassed at first, but eventually settled in. I wanted her to be comfortable expressing herself around others. I knew I was pushing her outside her comfort zone, but until she outright refused, I would continue pushing. There was a light knock on the door, and then it opened with Elder Joseph entering the room. “Carson, Cole,” he acknowledged as he walked into the room. “And who might this be?” Elder Joseph questioned. I stood, placing Jessica on the ground in front of the Elder. “This is my mate, Jessica,” I told Elder Joseph. He smiled, “I am pleased to hear you have found your mate, Beta,” the Elder commented as he continued to study Jessica. “You are uncertain of your role here,” he commented, as Jessica frowned. I started to tense wondering what direction the Elder was going. “There is nothing to b

  • Rescuing the Beta's Mate   Chapter 64 - Information

Jessica POV As we entered the dungeons, I could not contain my disgust. The smell took my breath away. I was so distracted by the scent, I did not realize we were already standing before the Rogue King’s cell. He was sitting in the center of the cell, cuffed to a steel chair at his ankles and wrists. His face was bruised, and he was smirking as he looked at me. “It did not take you long,” he commented. “Long for what?” I questioned. “To fall back in bed with that lowly Beta,” he observed. I was uncomfortable knowing that everyone knew what Cole and I had been doing. I was not embarrassed of Cole, but I was still getting used to a relationship. I was uncomfortable with everyone knowing what was happening between us. It was overwhelming, and I was trying to get out of my head when Cole stepped closer to me. He touched my arm and I immediately calmed down as he centred me. “Thank you,” I said

Cole POV It bothered me that Jessica thought she had to thank us for coming for her. It worried me that she did not understand how valuable she was too me. I realized I had my work cut out for me. Showing her how much she means to me, while also dealing with the seemingly endless threats that are coming at us, was not going to be easy. “Why don’t you two take a couple hours - get dressed and something to eat, while I go and check on Marly and Everly?” Carson suggested when we arrived back at the pack territory. “We will meet back here in a couple hours, and go interrogate the Rogue King together,” Carson added. I nodded my agreement, as Jessica moved with me towards the stairs. “I need a shower,” Jessica said, as we broke off to our floor. “We both need a shower,” I replied. We entered the suite and I was surprised to see sandwiches already in our suite. “Someone was thoughtful,” Jessica stated. “Likely Marly, s

  • Rescuing the Beta's Mate   Chapter 62 - Beginning

Jessica POV I could feel the blood dripping from the wound on my neck, but I had to reach Cole before he killed the man he was choking. “Stop!” I yelled, as Cole faltered and turned to look at me. The confusion on his face was evident, as he asked me, “Why?”. “Because I need him,” I responded. I watched as Cole’s face fell, “You what?” Cole replied, as the Rogue King smirked in his face. Cole’s hands tightened once again, and I grabbed onto Cole’s hands trying to get him to stop. Carson came around trying to get me to stop, but I kept begging. “Please stop, Cole, please,” I kept repeating. I could see Cole fighting with himself. He wanted to destroy the man in front of him, but the connection between us was causing him to pause. I knew he would never intentionally hurt me, but I needed the information that this man had claimed to have. “He knows about my mother,” I yelled, as Cole glanced my

Cole POV I heard Jessica scream, and I knew we were still too far away to stop whatever was happening. Gunner put on top speed, with Carson keeping pace. “Do not do anything crazy,” Carson cautioned. “The only thing I will be doing is saving my mate from whatever hell she is being forced to endure,” I responded angrily. “Let’s get into position so we know what we are dealing with first,” Carson said. “I cannot wait for the others to catch up,” I bit out, knowing Gunner was doing the best he could. He wanted to be there are much as I did. “If there are too many around, you will lose the fight, and then Jessica will be on her own,” Carson reminded me. I swore, as I considered the options. “See what happens when we get there,” I responded, not prepared to commit to anything else. We raced through the trees. I caught scent of Jessica through the forest. She must have tried to escape, I thought as pride filled me.
