LOGINCole POV
After waiting impatiently for our Alpha Carson and Luna Marly, it was agreed we would head off to the gala rather than waiting for them. We parked our vehicles on the other side of the pack grounds as the main parking area was already full. We walked towards the gala, as I heard the buzz of excitement among our pack members.
“I smell something,” I heard from different people. I smiled as I heard my wolf yawn, waking up. “She is here,” he said, before laying his head down on his front paws. He was as eager to meet his mate, as I was to meet mine. My pace quickened as the pack followed me towards the entrance.
There I caught the scent of jasmine filling my senses. I quickly greeted the host Alpha and Luna before walking into the hall and searching for someone who would be searching for me. I walked slowly through the hall, finding the scent getting stronger towards the back of the dancefloor.
I stopped in front of a door. Tapping lightly, I opened it and was overwhelmed with the scent of my mate. I was also overwhelmed with the scent of fear. I quickly scanned the room but saw nothing and nobody there. I shut the door and turned almost running into a slob of an Alpha.
“What are you searching for, Beta?” the Alpha asked with a smirk. “Just making sure none of my pack members were lost,” I replied, as I moved to walk around him. “Whatever you were searching for, Beta, just forget about it,” the Alpha cautioned as he waddled away.
I watched him for a moment, finding the threat a bit weird, but had other more important things to do. Like finding my mate, I thought with a soft smile. I walked back around the dancefloor tracking the scent that took me to the front door again. As I reached it from a different direction, I found the scent stronger.
I felt excitement churning in my stomach as I followed the scent outside. Perhaps my mate needed a break or was disappointed that she had not scented me yet. As I walked around, Carson and Marly came up to me, “Any luck?” Carson asked as he held Marly’s hand.
“I can scent her, but have not found her yet,” I shared, frustration starting to show in my terse reply. “Let’s ask the Alpha if he has any suggestions,” Carson suggested as he nudged me back into the hall. The Alpha was quick to offer his help understanding how important it was for ranking pack members to find their mates.
The Alpha offered someone from his pack who could take me around to try and track her down. I thanked him and the young warrior who had volunteered, before we headed off in search of my mate.
When I got back outside, my wolf took over immediately. He led us to the pack house. I could detect my mate’s scent a bit stronger, but it was clear that the individual had not been here recently. The jasmine scent was mingling with other scents which was confusing my wolf.
We walked into the pack house, and I was hit by the powerful scents of the Alpha and Luna. Clearly this was their domain, and it was difficult to pick up any scents. Clearly if my mate had been here, they were no longer present. I growled in frustration, when the warrior suggested one last option.
“We could go to where the cars are parked. You might detect her scent there?” he suggested. “Excellent idea,” I replied, as we took off from the pack house and went towards the parking area. It took us a few minutes to get there, but when we did, I once again picked up the faint scent of my mate.
I frowned, as I also picked up a stronger scent of fear. I knew she had been here but now she was gone. Why? Why would she leave and why would she be fearful? Had she detected me and been fearful? Surely not, I would never harm my mate. I hoped she would know that.
Why would she come here and leave so quickly, if she had scented me. She cannot have scented me. Was she safe? I knew I needed to find her. It was the second time I had scented fear while scenting her. My wolf had a sense something was wrong, and I always trusted his instincts.
Whoever you are, I am coming for you, mate. I will find you and protect you. I promise.
Jessica POV “I will not be an asset to anybody,” I reiterated. “You have no choice, Jessica. You are a powerful, talented woman. You will never be able to rest,” Kendrick taunted. “What does that mean?” Cole demanded. Kendrick looked at him with contempt, “You never deserved her,” he spit out. “Fortunately, your opinion never meant anything,” Cole replied. The look on Kendrick’s face turned to a glare, as Josh stepped in front of him, drawing his attention back to the prince. “What did you mean, she will never be able to rest?” the prince questioned. Kendrick took a step back, “Simply that many will be looking for a talented woman, such as Jessica,” he relayed shakily. “You are really starting to piss me off,” the prince stated. “What do you mean?” Kendrick asked. “I know you are not telling me the truth,” Josh stated quietly. Kendrick was visibly shaking, recognizing that the prince was n
Jessica POV Julia and I had our DNA tests completed once again to compare to Prince Josh. Donna had not woken up since she was given her pain medication. After checking in on her, not touching her, the prince determined it was time to go and visit Kendrick in the dungeons. Julia stayed with Donna and promised to notify us when she woke. For now, Josh was adamant he meets the man who had been a part of destroying Donna and Josh’s lives. We walked towards the dungeons while everyone was quiet, lost in their thoughts. “What was it like?” Josh asked. I looked to him, realizing he was speaking to me. “What was what like?” I replied. “Growing up. With the man who was not your father,” he explained. I looked away from him, not wanting to burden him with something he could not have changed. “It was hell,” I admitted not looking at him. “Years of torture; abuse by the pack,” I responded softly. “I
Jessica POV “Mate,” the prince whispered. As he touched Donna she screamed out in pain. She bent forward and the man immediately released her hand. “What is wrong?” he demanded, concern for Donna was evident. A doctor and nurse came rushing in. “We need to give her some pain medication. There is no logical reason she is in pain,” the doctor murmured as she prepared to give Donna a dose of medication. “Donna, can you hear me?” the prince asked, looking at her desperately. Donna was simply rocking herself back and forth, holding her head. “I must administer this medication – she is suffering needlessly,” the doctor commented as she moved forward and injected Donna with the pain relief. After a minute or so Donna started to visibly calm down, until she was resting against her pillows. She slowly looked at the prince, a pained look on her face. “Do I know you?” she whispered, before her eyes c
Jessica POV We did not have to wait long for word to arrive from the King. The King advised immediately that he would be sending his son, the prince, on behalf of the kingdom. We had an opportunity to do some research on the prince. He was the next in line to take over from his father, the King. Oddly there were few recent pictures of the prince. Some in his infant years, but it was as if he was intentionally kept away from media. “How old is he?” I asked, as Marly scanned the documents. “It does not say, but given the age of the King, I would say he would be mid to late forties,” she suggested. Why was there so much mystery surrounding the prince? It is amazing that more people had not tried to find out the details. Or perhaps they had with no success. Marly sighed, “Well, I guess we have learned all that we can today,” she stated, as she stood and stretched. “Donna does not remember anyt
Jessica POV “Do you think that is possible?” I questioned, considering what Cole was proposing. “I believe it could be. We still do not fully understand why your wolf was being contained. Perhaps that was the goal for both of you?” Cole surmised. I nodded, “Perhaps.”. Julia was watching us as she processed everything. “What do you mean – saved for something else?” she asked. “The whole purpose of Grayson and the others was to have me join them in destroying the Wolf Council and basically taking it over,” I shared. “And by taking over the Wolf Council – what would that accomplish?” Julia asked. “It would mean they could take over the Wolf community – creating their own rules for wolves to follow,” Cole offered. “Why?” Julia inquired, still unclear what this all meant. “That is the million-dollar question,” Carson stated, as he moved to stand with us. “We need to convince Kendrick to spill wh
Jessica POV Kendrick was miserable. He was currently being held in our holding cell. I would have preferred they left him in the dungeon, but Carson felt that would not be appropriate … yet. I was frustrated. No matter how we tried to reason with him, we could not get a DNA sample from him. That was more telling. He kept fighting the sample collection, so we decided to submit the DNA samples without him. We wanted to at least get ourselves tested. Donna had agreed so our doctor did the sample collection. Now we just had to wait. Donna had continued to struggle to remember the other man from her past. Every time she tried to access that memory she was struck with a piercing headache. I had tried a healing session when it was happening, however, I had been unable to identify the source of the pain. It was becoming apparent that there was something else at play. Fortunately, we had our own

Cole POV “Theft of what?” I exclaimed holding on tightly to Jessica. “She stole something of value from her father,” the Wolf Council stated. “What?” Jessica asked quietly. “A family heirloom. He wants it back,” the Wolf Council leader replied. “I have never seen a family heirloom,” Jessica re
Jessica’s POV I had been kept awake all night with the image of the man standing below my window. I had been looking to the forest wishing my father had not positioned guards right outside my door. When I first tried to leave, they shoved me back into the room letting me fall in
