Her parents didn’t care about her. They never had time for her. All they would do was make sure she had everything she wanted; everything but their comfort, presence, and care. That was all she ever wanted from them but she never got it.
Neither did she have friends. All the young girls of Uji village hated her. They said she was proud, hardheaded, mean and to top it all, spoilt. The real Courtney wasn’t any of this. She was a sweet loveable girl looking for someone to talk to.
Someone to befriend but no one knew this Courtney. The only Courtney they knew was the cruel and disrespectful girl. She couldn’t change that now, but she wished that maybe luck will shine on her.
The group of four children left her front, walking away. They felt Courtney’s eyes on them and it made them walk unnatural.
“Miles…” Courtney said as everyone turned to face her, acting like they were all named Miles. “…nice butt.”
Miles felt himself pu
“I am so sorry Angela,” Justin said in utmost sadness.Tears were coming down from his eyes one by one. They were scarce but still there.Angela wanted to answer but her voice was blocked up by mucus and the only thing coming out from it was croaking.Angela couldn’t handle being around the area anymore. The memories she was having were making her cry more. Her tears would have filled a well up.She stood up and ran from the area.“Angela!” Miles cried out in an attempt to run after her but Justin held his hand.“She needs time. Let us give her.”“Leave me alone Justin!” Miles said releasing himself from his grip and running after her. Not again Justin, not again.Angela’s legs were weak, they couldn’t carry her far. She sat down, resting her back on a tree, brooding with tears.Miles found her soon. He hated seeing her in such cond
“Let us not get any crazy ideas.” Miles sighed. His mood was spoilt. He was not as lively as he once was because of the incident. Carrying Kale was not giving him the space to get closer and have a quiet conversation with Angela but that could wait even though he didn’t want to wait to talk to her, hold her hand and hear her angelic giggles. He still didn’t understand what he was feeling. Was it true love or infatuation? It couldn’t be infatuation. He wanted to be with Angela for the rest of his life, till the end. “We will get there in the next few hours but it is getting late.” He looked at the dampening sky. “We should find somewhere to camp before moving on.”“And some food,” Kale said getting down from Miles’ shoulders. She was right, the four were hungry. They had been moving on empty stomachs since the day began. Angela had never felt such pangs of hunger in her life. When she thought about
“We wanted to tell you to not eat those apples,” Minna said pointing at the tree and bag of apples.“Why?” Angela asked anxiously.“Can you not see how fresh and juicy they are? The evil sprites use it to lure humans into loving and serving them for the rest of their lives,” Begley answered as Mile gulped in fear.If they had eaten those apples, it meant eternal slavery.“Wow. Thank you,” Angela said turning to Miles.“Yes thank you,” he added as the sprites politely nodded in unison.Angela’s stomach began to rumble again. The hunger was killing her.“You are really hungry?” Minna asked as she nodded pouting.Begley brought something out of an invisible pocket and handed it over to them.“Here,” Begley said as Miles took it before the tip of Angela’s skin could have contact with the key.The key
“One of the sprites gave us. It will help us identify the good food from the bad,” Miles answered as he helped Kale up the floor.“We do not need that. We know the good from bad,” Justin said also getting up.“Just for precaution,” Angela added taking the key from Miles. They continued their search for something to eat.The search was tiring and exhausting. It was as if all the trees with edible fruits in the forest were hiding from them. Justin was carrying tired Kale while Miles was supporting Angela so she wouldn’t faint. She was pale and feeble. Hunger wasn’t a good thing at all. Angela had never felt so hungry in her life. It was like thin needles were pinching her stomach in different places.Miles was used to being hungry. Sometimes the bandits starved for days looking around for small pieces of bread and drinking unfiltered water from the local river. They
“Justin, are you sure you have no idea who this cinnamon witch is?” Angela asked, hoping and expecting a positive answer.“I wish I knew; never heard of her,” Justin said shaking his head abruptly.“What if she does not want to help us?” Miles took a hollow breath.Angela thought about that. They didn’t have an idea what she looked like, what her powers were, what she was capable of doing but they’ll find out when they get to the Korian library.“How long will it take us to get there?!”“Kale take it easy. We will be there soon.”“We will be there soon,” Kale mimicked Miles’ voice, huffing.Angela’s hand had become numb from the way Miles was holding her. She didn’t want to let go but it was beginning to get uncomfortable rather than comforting. She freed her hand from his grip, rubbing them together.Miles go
Angela’s high pitched voice hit everyone’s ear like a bomb. They came out of their boring searching and rushed to her side. Miles was happy she found it and gave her a quick peck. Her cheeks flushed with red. She was nervous and surprised. That was the last thing she expected from him. Maybe she needed to start finding more things.Justin took the book, heading for the table. He placed it on it, flipping the book open to the first page. The cover of the book was a beautiful looking woman, holding a wand the color of cinnamon with a golden persimmon placed at the top of it.Her cheeks were yellow. Her hair was long and golden. She wasn’t ugly looking like some of the other pictures of witches she had seen that day. She looked nice but Angela couldn’t be totally sure about that. All the witches she met in her storybooks were the mean and wicked kind that always wanted to kill the princesses but the witch they were rea
“A gift from a far cousin,” Justin answered.“Okay but it is some really good stuff,” Victor said smiling at him.It was like they were talking to each other in a code the others didn’t understand.“How much for it?” Justin asked cutting to the chase.Victor stroked his chin thinking.“I will give ya three gold coins for it,” Victor said as they both went into a burst of funny laughter. When the laughter cooled down, the serious discussion came back up.“Seriously, how much for it?”Victor’s smile reduced. He understood; strictly business.“Take three bags of silver coins,” Victor said marking the beginning of the negotiation.Justin shook his head, slowly placing his hand on the counter of the stall.“You have always been stingy,” Justin took a look at the faces of his exhaust
“Have you found her?” the Queen said raising her head high, proud, and pompous. She had long curly brown hair that reached her waistline; her eyes were brown and sparkled like stars in the sky. She wore a red-blood dress that had rubies placed at different intervals of it.Her red lips burned with fire and her tongue only brought out words of evil. Her face would have been the most beautiful in the world. She would have been the most beautiful person in the world, if it wasn’t all just fake. Her pride was something you could never imagine. She was ruthless, wrathful, a macabre. The long expensive dress she wore, brought out her eye-blinding shape.Any man would have fallen for this woman immediately but it was all fake, a lie. The real Octavia was not spectacularly beautiful. Plain and simple but now-a-thens, people with money pasted fake materials all over their bodies to make them look prettier and presentable.&
