That was sweet

Ariel's POV…

Gaping unbelievably at the car now engulfed in flames, my legs felt so heavy to move, my lips were pale due to fear, with my heart thudding recklessly in my chest. The shock of it got me panting heavily as if I just ran a marathon.

Fuck! “What the hell?” Kevin's distressed voice broke my thoughts. Turning to glimpse at him, his countenance displayed fear, disbelief, shock, and pain. I assumed he was pained since that very car was a possession of his father which he passed to him.

I bite my lips hard, oblivious of what to say that might pacify him. “Kevin,” I whimpered, advancing to him.

I embraced him gently, and he clutched tightly to my clothes; he was trembling, literally. Is he that pained?

It's just a car, shouldn't he at least be thankful for his life?

“Ariel...” he hushed, and his grip grew tighter. Soon, sobs were heard, and trust me, I was dumbfounded.

“Kevin. It's enough. I know that car meant a lot to you and…”

“Screw that!” he suddenly yelled. He moved his grip to my shoulder, held it tightly, and stared directly into my eyes. Now, I clearly saw the gigantic balls of tears that rolled down his cheeks.

“Kevin?”

“You think I'm worried about the car? Ariel, it was already a piece of crap!” He said bashfully, knowingly getting me perplexed. If he isn't dazed by that, then what the hell is he so angry about?

“Then, what's the matter? Why are you crying?” I whispered the last part as I wiped his tears with my thumb.

“I'm scared, Ariel. What if we were in it? I would have lost you. I can't lose you. Not only that, but I don't know how I'll look myself in the mirror if anything happens to you, Ariel,” he whimpered tearfully and for some reason, I couldn't speak; I remained still until he cried to his heart's content. Subsequently, we boarded a taxi back home.

During the ride, we both didn't say anything; it's not like I'm angry at him or anything, but… I feel so different.

Throughout my unreal relationship with Ace, he had never spoken to me with so much affection as Kevin. Apart from that, he never sounded sincere. I wonder how I missed all those hints.

The next morning after the incident, was the weekend.

Presently, I was busy scribbling down my assignment.

I longed for a drink, so I took a break, exited the room, and went downstairs. The entire place seemed deserted since it was void of any life form, Kevin's brother isn't at home; he informed me he'll be leaving the pack soon for some reasons unknown to me.

“Where is Kevin?” I muttered curiously. He always informs me about his whereabouts, today shouldn't be any different. Might it be he's feeling awkward cos of yesterday's occurrence? It does feel a bit embarrassing, but that isn't enough reason for him to ghost me.

Needlessly, I went into the kitchen for what brought me downstairs in the first place, a glass of water. Afterward, I made my way upstairs but headed to Kevin's room.

Perhaps something's wrong with him? Arriving at his room, I contemplated briefly on my actions. What if he finds it weird or bothersome?

I want to avoid seeming meddlesome in his affairs, and neither do I want to seem nonchalant. Gosh…what to do. My balled fist hung in the air as the door slid open, revealing Kevin.

He furrowed his eyebrows questioningly at me. “What are you doing here?” he asked with a smile lingering beautifully on his lips. He's dressed seemingly to go out, judging from his extremely hot-styled hair and that sexy jacket on.

Absent-mindedly, I gulped down nothing with my eyes literally raping him. His looks are so lethal right now. Engrossed in staring at him, I forgot to provide an answer to his question.

“Ariel?” he held my right wrist, jolting me from my thoughts. Awkwardly, I chewed on my lower lips, slightly ashamed to say a word. He let out a sly grin and dragged me into his room.

Kevin shut the door and then slammed my back gently on it. He was leaning in way too closely, too close to the extent our noses were brushing against each other.

“What were you doing there?” he asked again, his cool minty breath caressing my face.

“I was… worried about you. After breakfast, you practically disappeared. Was I wrong to be concerned?” I threw back in a hushed tone. I can't deny how uncomfortable I am; I would have loved to slide out of his grip, but both his arms are placed beside me.

“Ain't that sweet?” he smirked annoyingly, and I rolled my eyes. “Then fuck me for worrying,”

“C'mon Ariel, I didn't mean it that way,” he apologized almost immediately. He brought his right hand to my cheeks before his fingers stroked my cheek sweetly.

“Yeah yeah. You're heading somewhere?” I threw the question notwithstanding.

“You're curious?”

“Kevin!”

“Kiss me, and I'll tell you,” His statement practically got me tongue-tied. He's acting so strange and different today. I considered it a joke and laughed it off. Then again, glancing at his face, his countenance was fucking serious...
