Weird feeling

Ariel's POV…

I watched in anticipation as Chloe held the spoon shakily; I wonder if she would have the courage to gulp down the content of the food or find an excuse to avoid eating. Then again, Agnes was quick to make an excuse.

“Oh my! How forgetful of me. Ariel dear, I'm so sorry, but I think the meal is yet to be cooked completely. Forgive my silliness,” Agnes said with a fake smile playing on her lips and she took away the dishes. What the fuck is wrong with this bitch? If she wants to make an excuse, that at least should be legible!

Who the hell does she think she is lying to? A kindergartner? I sighed silently before standing up from my seat.

Lowering my eyes to gape at Chloe, I noticed how much she was trembling.

I never knew she could be so afraid of taking in poison. But it was fun for her to watch her very own friend fill her stomach with poison. I balled my knuckles in anger and let out a scoff.

“Girl, is something the matter? You seem a bit pissed,” she said, pulling up a fake smile as she also stood.

“No. I'm a bit bummed that I couldn't have a taste of that chicken soup.  It looked delicious, didn't it?” I responded, grinning widely.

“Don't worry. I bet it'll be ready in a few minutes. Meanwhile, why don't we pay Ace a visit in his room?” she asked suggestively. I knew instantly that she was looking for an excuse to see him.

Well, I will be damned to allow her.

“That's a great idea. But you know something Chloe, I think it's time you stop going into his room; it seems a bit weird doesn't it?” I guessed my statement got her shocked since she was speechless for some seconds. Chloe eventually found her tongue and began to stutter.

“But…”

“Come on, sweetheart, there's no need for you to say anything. You respect my decision, don't you?” I asked and she nodded her head affirmatively.

“Good. I'll be back soon,” I winked annoyingly at her before walking out of the dining room. On my way out, I clearly heard her mumbling curses. Her stupidity is almost laughable. Does she really think I am going to allow her to get closer to Ace? I might, but not now. For now, I will take pleasure in taunting her endlessly.

Ascending the stairs gracefully, I considered how Ace would be once he finds Chloe isn't with me—would he be shocked? Angry? Or try his very best to maintain a casual countenance? Whatever his reaction might be, I sincerely couldn't care less. Finally, I arrived at his front door and placed a knock on the door before making my way in.

There, I found Ace playing video games.

Ugh! So this is the attitude of the supposed next ruler of our Pack? How utterly shameful and pitiful. Ace at first wanted to ignore my present, then again I assumed he had a change of mind.

“What are you doing here?  Aren't you supposed to be with your beloved Kevin?” he asked, his voice laced with sarcasm, which was followed with an eye roll.

“Don't be such a jealous ass. Kevin's just my helper,” I responded cheekily, moving towards him.

“Are you sure about that? Because from the way your relationship is going it seems there's more to it,” he said flatly before diverting his undivided attention to me.

“You're talking like a kid! We are mates, aren't we?” I asked coquettishly. Ace grinned a bit apprehensively and stood. He led me to the spacious couch, where we both sat down and conversed. During the conversation, he asked about the whereabouts of Chloe and I merely shrugged.

“Come on, sweetheart, what is with the goddamn attitude? Isn't she your best friend anymore, or you both are having issues?”

I faced him squarely, before scoffing raucously.

"But that doesn't give you the damn right to ask after her every single time I come here. Is there something going on between you two?” I furrowed my eyebrows questionably.

“Don't be silly. I have eyes only for one person and that is you,” he beamed while leaning closely. I sensed he wanted a kiss, which I give him.

At that exact moment, his door got pushed open and Chloe stepped in. Although it disappeared swiftly, I saw a glint of anger flash through her eyes. But then again, she was quick to regain her pretentious composure. Ace tore away from the kiss sharply.

“What's the matter?” I asked, playing oblivion to Chloe's presence.

“Well, Chloe's here and…”

“So? How does smooching affect her? I'm sure she's here to inform us concerning dinner.  And we already know.  So, you can please leave Chloe,” I said nastily without even sparing her a single glance.

“Okay,” she drawled awkwardly and left.

“Ariel, what was that?” Ace questioned instantly and stared at me surprisingly.

“What was what? Just shut up and kiss me!”

By the time I descended the stairs, I found only Agnes. It turned out that Chloe was so angry, she left without even saying goodbye. After bidding the bitch and asshole duo goodbye, I headed back to Kevin's apartment.

Arriving at his apartment, I simply inserted my spare key and pushed the door open. It would be unwise to knock because that would wake him and his brother up from sleep.

I gave the door a little push as I intended to step in quietly. Then again, the instant I turned the lights on, I was surprised to see Kevin sitting on a couch fast asleep.

Wait a second. Has he been waiting for me to come back? The thought of that got my heart fluttering and my belly filled with numerous butterflies. How sweet can he be?

Waking him up will be a pain in the ass, so I went closer. I took some seconds in admiring his facial features and couldn't help but gush at how charming my actual mate is. Going up the stairs, I went straight to my room.

There I got a comfy blanket and took it back to the living room. Gently, I placed it on him and smiled.

I patted his hair mildly before heading to bed.

The next morning came faster than expected. I got ready for school rather quickly and also helped in making breakfast in haste.

“You seem to be in a rush this morning.  Is something the matter?” Kevin said as we both do the dirty dishes together.

And to be truthful, I really want to know. I woke up this morning feeling so fucking uneasy that something terrible is about to happen. But, what?

“No, I'm fine. Perhaps the upcoming midterm test is getting me worried,” I answered lowly, yet Kevin's uneasiness could be felt.

Needlessly, we both went to school. The day went by smoothly, but with the absence of both Chloe and Ace. During geometry class, I couldn't help but wonder if they both are together presently. I mean, it is far too coincidental for both of them to be absent on the same day after what happened in his room the previous day. Maybe she is angry at him, and they are talking it out?

Sigh…

How infuriated I get any time I think about it? And subsequently, she comes pretending to be my friend. “I'm disgusted by her entire being,” I said silently before heaving another side.

The school was over, so I went over to Kevin's department and just wait for him. Then again, I was later informed that he was at the park performing community services. I thought it was some sort of punishment, but he cleared the air by saying he enjoyed doing so.

Normally, I would be damned to aid since I'm a lazy ass. But his act of kindness touched me, and I had no choice but to join in.

“I believe I will die, literally! Every part of my body is hurting like crazy,” I complained and added an adorable pout.

“You did good today, and thanks once more,” he says gratefully while smiling cutely.

After a few minutes of walking, we arrived at the parking lot where he left his car. Kevin attempted to unlock the car to go in, but for some weird reason, I found myself holding his wrist.

“Ariel?”

“Don't. Don't go in yet!” I hushed, pulling him backward. I made sure to leave some distance between ourselves and the car. He questioned me constantly about what the matter was, but I couldn't explain why I don't want him in there; my body feels so fucking unusual. As If something bad is going to happen.

“Ariel, why can't we go in? At least answer my questions or provide a reason!” he half yelled at me. Lifting my eyes to look at him, I sought for a reason.

“Kevin, I'm….”

Boom!

The raucous explosion resulting from Kevin's car got us scurrying to our feet. His car busted into uncontrollable flames while we gaped unbelievably. So, if we had gotten in, we could have been caught in that?
