ELEANOR
The world tilted beneath my feet, and I held on to the chair, so I didn’t fall from the sway that rocked me.
The whispers around me grew but none of it mattered. At that moment, I didn’t care about the whispers, the horrified and disgusted expressions, the accusing eyes.
None of them mattered. The only thing that mattered was him.
“Theon, please” I choked out, forcing my legs to move as I ran after him.
Theon didn’t stop. He didn’t even glance back when my leg made contact with a chair, and I winced out in pain.
I managed to grab his sleeve, desperate for him to listen to me first. “Theon, listen to me. At least let me explain” I voiced desperately “These emails, the photos, they are fake. I don’t know who did this and why, but I swear to you, I would never betray you”
My world stilled as he stopped. I waited for him patiently but desperately as he turned to me but the man who turned to me wasn’t the same one, I had planned to marry.
“Theon” I whispered, my voice laced with fear as my heart thumped painfully in my chest.
The man before had a cruel expression I had only heard of from people I had claimed knew nothing about him. He was standing in front of me, but he was distant.
His cold blue eyes pierced into me like shards of ice and his lips curled into a sneer filled with so much disdain I was forced to stumble back a few steps from surprise.
My heart twisted painfully as Theon looked at me with an expression I had never imagined he would ever gaze at me with.
“Enough,” he told me, his voice harder than his glare and the words sliced through me, more painful than any remark I had heard tonight.
“Theon, please” I beg, trying to get to him. Hoping and desperate to reach the little love I knew or hoped he had for me. “You know me, you know I would never...”
“Do I know you really?”
His question pulled the rug under my feet, and I sucked in a harsh breath. I stare at him with disbelief, unable to process the words that had just left his lips.
Theon took a slow step towards me, and I stepped back, hating the way he shook his head as he glared at me like I was something vile and disgusting he couldn’t stand.
“Theon, why are you looking at me like that?” I cried, my heart breaking and the feeling was so painful.
“I was a fool to think you were different but, in the end, you are just like all the others”
“The others?” my voice trembled.
Theon let out a dark chuckle, completely devoid of any humour “The gold diggers. Liars. Women who get close to me with a motive. Women who want to use me for my name and my money”
His gaze swept over me “I should have known you were the same. I don’t know why I ever bothered to give you the benefit of the doubt when you would end up like the others”
My stomach churned and I felt sick. A gold digger? A liar? Was that all he thought of me?
I shook my head violently “That’s not true. You know that’s not true”
His eyes flashed with anger “Do I?” His words felt like a slap across my face.
“I won’t waste another second on a woman who sells my company secrets to my rivals and cheats on me” He announced coldly “I want nothing to do with you anymore, Eleanor”
“Wait...”
“Whatever this is...” he motioned between us “...It’s over”
I staggered back as though he physically struck me. Over?
“You are calling off the wedding? Just like that?”
His expression didn’t waver “Yes, Eleanor. There will be no wedding” He cocked his head to the side, his eyes filled with disgust “I don’t marry traitors or cheaters”
“I didn’t cheat on you or betray you. You have to believe me...”
“I don’t” He cut me coldly “I trusted you. I let you into my life, my company and my family but this is how you betray me”
“I’ve said it multiple times. I didn’t do it” I protested, frustration bleeding into my voice as I raised it.
“Oh” He cocked his head to the side “Then explain this. Explain the pictures and the emails. This damning proof”
I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. How was I supposed to explain something I couldn’t even understand?
All I knew was that someone had set me but who and why?
“I don’t know” My voice wavered “But I swear it wasn’t me. I would never do this”
“Never?” He scoffed “That’s an interesting choice of words considering the evidence in these messages”
My throat tightened “You can’t just throw everything away over some lies”
“I didn’t throw anything away, Eleanor. You did”
I couldn’t breathe. My heart hammered violently as a tremor rippled through me.
I looked at Theon and couldn’t help but wonder if he had been waiting for a moment to discard me. Had I envisioned the love I thought he had for me in my head?
He had turned his back on me so easily, that he believed some stranger without hesitation over me.
My thoughts dragged me back to the timeline of our relationship. From the moment we met on the blind date, to the kisses and even the time we had sex, it had always been me initiating any form of intimacy.
I had poured my heart into our relationship and didn’t even mind or think twice anytime he didn’t meet me halfway. I told myself that he wasn’t the emotional type. I forced myself to accept the reality that he wasn’t used to it and did everything by myself.
I ignored that his secretary was the one to deliver his gifts and made excuses that he was busy but took the time to make sure his secretary got me something.
Did I orchestrate his love for me in my head? Did he never love me at all?
"You never cared, right?”
His jaw tightened “Don’t twist this...”
“No” I cut him off, my pain morphing into something that resembled anger “If you really loved me, you wouldn’t believe this so easily. You would stand up for me and you would not doubt me”
A harsh, strangled cough cut through the silence, and I had barely turned when I saw my father sway on his feet with his face drained out of all its colour.
“Dad!” I cried out as I ran towards him.
His hand clutched his chest, and his breaths were coming out in shallow gasps. Before I knew it, he collapsed and fell to the floor.
“Someone call an ambulance” I screamed, and the room erupted in chaos.
I fell to my knees beside him, my mother panicking beside me. “Dad, stay with me. Help is on the way”
The guests moved around us, calling for help and panicking as well. When I turned my head towards Theon, he was still standing there, watching us with a blank expression.
And that’s when he hit me...maybe he truly never cared.
The small stadium buzzed with energy. Parents, siblings, students, and friends cheered relentlessly for the students who would be playing their first game.Milo Blackwell adjusted his jersey as he bounced on his feet. He was nervous, and it showed. His best friend, Elliot, nudged him, “Are you nervous?”“Yes,” Milo nodded, “You?”“I am. Feels like I want to throw up, but we got this,” Elliot said with a big smile.Elliot was the opposite of Milo. Everybody told Milo he was just like his father when he was young. His Aunt Sophie always cried dramatically, saying he had lost all his cute attributes and was now a brooding teenager like his father. At 13, Theon was Milo’s biggest inspiration. He looked up to his father and wished to be like him someday. But not career-wise, in that aspect, he wanted to be like his uncle’s boyfriend, Malone. At first, his father didn’t like that he wanted football over business, but one pleasing pout from his mother, and his father agreed without hesitation
AUTHOR’S POV“Where are my little troublemakers?” Theon called and chuckled lowly when the sounds of little footsteps started to run down the stairs. He braced himself as they slammed into him.“We are here, Daddy,” Eliza giggled, bouncing on her feet, making her little pigtails bounce as well. “Is mummy back?” she asked, peeking behind him at the door.Theon crouched to their height and gathered them in his arms, “Remember what we planned?” he asked with a playful wink, “This is very important to Daddy and Mummy, and I need you to do it perfectly. Can I count on you?” he asked with a serious tone.“Yes, Daddy,” Milo shouted, nodding his head furiously, “We can do it,”“Me too,” Eliza said, wrapping her hands around his neck.Theon smiled and kissed both their cheeks. He was nervous as well, and as a result, had checked everything thrice already. There was nothing else to keep him busy, and Sohie had chased him out of the garden because he was fussing so much.Jeremy and Malone laughe
AUTHOR’S POVThe silence in the boardroom was no longer filled with tension but with disbelief. They couldn’t believe the audacity of Julian.“Julian, calm down,” One of the board members yelled in warning, but Julian’s glare forced the man to back down.Julian could feel his voice becoming hoarse as he breathed harshly. His words echoed in the room, and it wasn’t enough. Rage burned inside him. The anger was overwhelming, and he wasn’t even done. The mask he had always worn had disappeared. Gone was the refined man the board members always knew, the Julian before them had gone feral with greed and hatred. He was a beast. No one moved at first. They all watched him with the mix of surprise, fear, disgust, and wonder. A lot of them could not believe that a human was capable of harbouring so much hatred for another.“What have you done to yourself?” Theon spoke, breaking the silence, “I can’t even think of something I may have done to make you think I only ever thought of you as a slav
AUTHOR’S POVThe board members murmured among themselves, while glancing at Theon and Elle, would sat at the top of the table. They didn’t understand why Theon had called for an urgent board meeting when the conglomerate wasn’t in any crisis they were aware of.They couldn’t help but shuffle awkwardly because Theon, who had insisted they be here first thing in the morning, had yet to say a word. His image screamed authority. While he had always been intimidating at every board meeting, today, his presence was suffocating.Elle was also quiet. Her gaze also unnerved them. They wanted to ask questions, but none of them could muster the audacity to speak. They could only wait to see what the meeting was about.Julian was also present. He was also surprised when he got the message yesterday night. He was bothered a little. His plan to take over the conglomerate was in motion, and it should start by the end of the week.He had planned something that would put the conglomerate in temporary
ELLEI couldn’t sleep. I should have been able to, given that Theon’s arm was around my waist as he held me close. His breathing was warm against the back of my neck.I was exhausted, because hours before, Theon had unravelled me in a way that I had almost forgotten. My body hummed deliciously with the after touch, and honestly, I craved more even though my body protested hardly against these thoughts.Theon grunted and pulled me closer, burying his face into the crook of my neck as he hummed in satisfaction. I guess I could say that we were back to where we were. But even with the emotions buzzing, I couldn’t think because my head was filled with so many thoughts. The truth about Julian hung above me. I was starting to regret my decision not to tell Theon because it had been bothering me nonstop. We had decided to start things all over again, without secrets, but I was still keeping a big one from him.I turned to my back, and Theon’s hand fell to my midsection, still unwilling to l
ELLEI couldn’t stop watching Theon as he drove. He claimed we had a meeting we needed to attend together, but something about his outfit didn’t feel like it was something he would wear for such an official outing.“Why are you looking at me like that?” He mused with a side glance, as a smile tugged at his lips, “You’ve been giving me that suspecting look since we left the house”“That’s because I don’t trust you,” I grumbled, folding my arms across my chest, “are you sure we are going for a business meeting?” I asked again with an arched brow.“And what makes you think I am lying?” He teased with a chuckle, and I huffed.“One. This is not the way to the office, and two, those are not work clothes,” I pointed at the suit he was wearing.“I wear a suit to work,” he laughed, but I shook my head.“Not this brand,” I deadpanned, and he laughed again.“I guess we’ll see about that,” he said, making a motion of zipping his mouth and throwing the keys away.“By the way, I said it was a busin
