Bettoni sat on the warm grass holding a beautifully chubby, bouncing baby boy. He had Zachery's dark, messy hair and her bright brown eyes. The little boy was agile and refused to sit still in her soft lap. Across the sunny courtyard, Zachery swung his wooden practice sword.

The baby boy clapped his tiny hands together loudly. He wanted to go and train with his father.

"You're too little to hold a heavy sword," Bettoni scolded softly, pulling the squirming boy backward against her chest.

"The keys felt incredibly cold in the dirty mercenary's hands, but the promised gold felt warmer," the scarred criminal grunted, unlocking the freezing dungeon cell.Angelika pressed her bare back against the damp stone wall as she shivered in her ruined gray shift. She stared at the two sneering men standing in her open doorway, not knowing the final phase of her downfall had officially begun."Who are you?" Angelika whispered, her green eyes wide with fear. "Are you sent by the Alpha to execute me tonight?""We're your ticket out of this palace, Lady Chattway," the second mercenary laughed darkly. "The rich merchant boy, Bryant Williams, paid us a fortune to sneak you out of the castle. Let's move right now before the royal guards wake up and hang us all."Angelika felt her chest bloom with sudden hope. Bryant actually kept his promise. He did not abandon her to the freezing dung pits. She scrambled to her bare feet, terrified but ready to run, and followed the two hardened cri

He wanted to go and train with his father."You're too little to hold a heavy sword," Bettoni scolded softly, pulling the squirming boy backward against her chest. The baby started crying a demanding wail, making Zachery drop his wooden weapon and jog over to bribe the angry boy with a sweet red apple."He's ready to start military training, Commandress," Zachery grinned playfully, handing the bright apple over."He's barely walking, Zachery!" Bettoni argued, slapping his arm. "He's just a tiny baby!""My son's a born warrior, Bettoni," Zachery countered, laughing deeply. "He needs to learn how to crush his enemies."They fought back and forth, distract

Sela and Bettoni walked quietly together through the beautiful royal gardens, the warm afternoon sun soothing against Bettoni's pale skin. The gentle breeze rustled the leaves, creating a peaceful noise. Bettoni finally felt safe inside the palace walls. Her enemies were ruined or locked away in the freezing dark dungeons, and she had power and a deeply loving husband.Bettoni smiled softly and looked at her loyal maid."You're looking beautiful these days, Sela," Bettoni complimented her sincerely, touching a blooming red flower. "Your skin's glowing brightly in this afternoon sun.""You're the truly beautiful one, Commandress," Sela returned the sweet compliment, adjusting her simple gray cotton dress. "Motherhood looks perfect on you. You finally look happy and at peace.""I'm very happy, Sela," Bettoni agreed softly, rubbing her round pregnant stomach. She looked at the young maid with a wicked little smirk. "But I think your glowing skin has nothing to do with the sunny weath

"The royal court is upside down, sweetheart," Zachery chuckled, pressing a warm kiss to her pregnant belly.Bettoni smiled softly, tangling her fingers in his messy hair as the morning sun shone across their bed. Every political threat was handled, and the dangerous loose ends were tied up.But far away from the warm royal bedchamber, the disgraced nobles were fighting for survival.Bryant sat alone inside a cheap tavern room in the lower outer villages, looking exhausted and rugged. He was officially a wanted fugitive hiding out of sight. His family wealth was seized, his evil mother and his lazy brother were arrested and stripped of their prestigious merchant titles, so moving around the village was difficult and dangerous.Bryant dipped a cheap wooden quill into a tiny ink bottle as he wrote a desperate message on a small scrap of parchment."I'm gathering the last hidden gold coins I secretly saved from my mother, Angelika," Bryant wrote, his handwriting shaking slightly. "Pa

Frostina ran blindly through the dark palace courtyards, sobbing hysterically into the night air.Her birthday gown dragged heavily through the wet dirt and thick mud, but she did not care about the ruined silk at all. She was consumed by despair and public humiliation. Her twentieth birthday was an empty joke, and then Bettoni shattered her remaining fragile pride. Frostina felt completely empty inside. As she ran, her chaotic mind raced fast.I’m a toxic monster, Frostina cried violently, stumbling over the rough cobblestones. My parents sat on the high royal council. They never had a minute for me. They just threw gold coins and expensive jewelry at me whenever I cried. They raised me to be a spoiled, entitled brat who expects the world to bow down. She ran past the tall royal fountains, her chest rising and collapsing with deep breaths. She finally realized why she acted so horrible her entire life. She was neglected.I coveted the Luna seat because I thought a crown would fi

  • Revenge in HundredFold and an Alpha Commander    THE BIRTHDAY PARIAH

She stood hidden in the dark shadows just outside the lower village stables. It was the night before her twentieth birthday. A full month had passed since she screamed furiously and formally fired the carpenter from the royal palace.Frostina wrapped her cloak tightly around her shivering shoulders. She stalked him quietly every night like a desperate pet. This night, she watched Buck working diligently under the dim yellow lantern light. He was sanding the same dark leather saddle he worked on during their terrible fight, and as he did, he hummed his melodic tune, focused on his tools.Frostina pressed her wet cheek against the rough stable wood and cried silently. He was so close but out of her reach. She could not bring herself to step into the light and approach him as she was too proud to reverse her official firing order. But she missed his dark, intense eyes gravely. It was unhealthy. She constantly thought of him as if they were in a deep romantic courtship and they had a f
