Chapter Forty

My heart pounded in my chest as I stood before the dilapidated cabin in the depths of the forest. I took a deep breath, steeling myself for what lay ahead.

The quest to gather information about my parents' death had led me here, to this hidden place rumored to be the gathering point for a secret society of werewolves.

My parents had been werewolves themselves, and their untimely demise had always haunted me. Now, I hope to find answers and closure.

With a shaky hand, I pushed open the creaky wooden door and stepped into the dimly lit cabin. The air was heavy with the scent of damp earth and old wood.

As my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I saw figures huddled around a large table at the center of the room. Their faces were hidden in the shadows, but their piercing eyes glinted with primal intensity.

A voice broke the silence, cutting through the tense atmosphere. "Ashley, we've been expecting you," said a deep, gravelly voice that sent shivers down my spine. "Come, join us."
