Escaped

" Hold on, " she raised her hand high, " but why would we go into an abandoned chapel leaving a whole village to investigate? "

" Stacy, I really wish I knew the answer to your question. Maybe, it's just our inquisitive part being too pushy towards things." I sighed softly, " We went in, and I saw something I haven't seen in my entire life. Crucifixes were hung upside down, I tried to hang them up but it kept turning down. While you on the other side, found a casket on the altar of the chapel. "

"A casket? " She asked, surprised. " On an altar? "

" Yes, a casket on an altar." I repeated,

" For real, what on earth would a casket be doing on an altar? "

"To avoid criminals, who knows? It was caged with chains and padlocks at every side like they had caged a demon. At first, I had thought it was a treasure and that if we were lucky, we would be the richest reporters Los Angeles has ever had. But I was wrong, it was no treasure. It was a monster, a human monster caged for years and has woken up for a reason. "

" What reason? "

" Who knows? I mean, how will I know! "

" Elisa first, it's just a dream and second, there's no human monster coming to Los Angeles. "

" You don't understand, it might be a dream but it was real. I know that one day, my inquisitive nature will get me into trouble. " I shoved my hair backwards while I said that.

" And why would you say that? " She asked.

" Because I was the one who insisted that we go inside there. You tried to stop me but I didn't listen to you. You said you preferred being fired than to get your life taken while I chose to find out what's strange about the village. "

She came to hug me, her embrace calming my racing heart down. I don't know why I was feeling this way, why I was having this feeling of fear. " I don't wanna go to the chapel tonight, I'd rather stay awake all through the night. "

" I know how terrified this dream has caused you, but you just have to believe me when I say it's just the normal weird scary dream everyone does have. Look, nothing is ever going to happen to you, me or .. anyone. Los Angeles is safe, everyone is, okay? "

I nodded.

" And you don't have to go to the chapel tonight, no one is forcing you. Okay? "

Her words were a lot helpful for me throughout the whole day. I didn't have to think about anything right now but my unfinished files. Today was so stressful but helpful too, at least it helped erase the weird dream from my mind.

Although, not completely... But at least not to keep me thinking.

*

The day ended successfully, I had to begin packing my stuff twenty minutes before dismissal. Stacy always waited for me in my office if she had packed earlier and I would do the same to her.

You can go ahead suspecting our friendship. Just trust me, we aren't biological sisters. Just the normal college friends.

It was closing time and everyone left one after the other. I went to the parking lot while Stacy waited for me at the road side. She entered and we drove home.

The journey back home was a brief silence before she asked, " Are you scared? "

" Me? No, of course not. " I replied, holding the steering tight. I don't think I really am okay, I can still feel my legs and hands trembling a little.

" It's just a dream, keep saying that to yourself when you feel the fear and try to take control. "

" I will." When we got to her home, I stopped my car. The lights to her rooms were on, she might have forgotten to turn them on, or someone might probably be at home. "Your lights are on. " I told her.

" Yeah, my mom is around. "

" Oh, okay then, see you tomorrow. " I waved at her.

" In case something goes wrong, " she waved her cell phone at me, " don't forget to give me a call. "

" I won't. "

" Bye then, " she waved.

" Bye, " and I waved back at her.

I turned on the ignition coil, heading home. I was listening to ' Bad Blood ' by Taylor Swift. She is my favorite musician and I love her music's... a lot. They always give me joy, and she's a musician I'd always recommend for everyone.

The music was over and another music which seemed to be boring was now playing. I hated it already and I didn't want to listen further, so I decided to change to a different station, which I did.

Returning my gaze back to the steering when someone stood a few meters away from my car. I quickly matched the brake, causing the car to come to a sudden stop. I almost hit my head on the wheel but all thanks that my hands were able to prevent my head from hitting the steering directly.

I stared up to the figure in front, he was bleeding profusely like he had escaped from a ghastly accident. I wanted to yell, I really wanted to scream at him but, looking at his appearance, he doesn't worth it.

I unlocked my seat belt, exiting the car. " W... " He didn't even let me talk, he interrupted with a million pleading.

" Please, help me. Please, take me out of here. "

" Okay, hold on, first I don't know who you are and second, you need to go to the hospital. "

" No, I can't go to the hospital, please don't take me there. "

" Dude, you're bleeding and you need quick attention. And of all, we are at the middle of the road. People might think we are psychos or something, we need to get out of here, now"

" Yes, but not to the hospital. " He insisted.

" Why not the hospital? "

" I just don't want the crazy questions. Please, just take me somewhere else, different from this place. "

" Somewhere like...? "

" I don't know! Just anywhere! " He said almost like a yell. Taking a deep breath, he sighed. " I'm sorry. I don't like the eyes on me, can we talk about it in your car? "

" Okay, fine. Get in. " I said and we both entered the car. I didn't want to start the conversation but the whole thing was working in my head. He looks like a beaten rat, and the worst part is that he refuses to go to the hospital.

Why would he refuse? And when does it have to be me? It should be someone else, far different from me.

But I have to, I can't get an answer if I keep imagining the whole thing in my head. " What's your name? " Was the first thing that escaped my lips.

" Gideon... My name is Gideon. " He answered.

" So Gideon, why do you choose not to go to the hospital? " I asked.

" I just don't want to go there. Look at me, " and I did for a while, returning my gaze back to the road. "What do you think the doctors will say? "

"They will say nothing but to have you treated first. " I replied in my best possible way.

" No, they're gonna think I'm a runaway criminal who has just escaped from the police. " I felt his eyes on me while he said that. " I am not a criminal, so I hate it when people think I am one. "

" Okay. Will you mind telling me what really happened? "

" It's a long story, Miss, wouldn't you want to listen to it later? "

"What if I insist on knowing now, is there anything wrong with that? "

" No, but I just think it isn't necessary now. "

" And why would you say that? " I looked at him, his eyes were getting dull. He smirked, but said nothing. " Are you alright? " I asked.

" Yeah, I'm kinda feeling dizzy right now. " He collapsed on the chair. I made the next turn which led to the hospital. I would have loved to listen to what he said but no, his condition is a critical one and he really needs attention.

Stopping at the hospital, I went in to call on the doctors who followed me to my car. They helped carry him into the hospital, placing him on an emergency ward. I really pity him, the scars on his body weren't the minor scar from a kitchen knife, it's deep and severe.
