CHAPTER TWO

Chapter Two

Ryan Cole

“There are very few things I can tolerate, Pete,” I said to my best friend as I leaned into the not-so-soft cushion of the bar we'd found ourselves in.

“Just do what the old man wants,” Pete advised. This was like the third time he was advising me to just do what my father wanted.

“I can't say you've been helpful with your counsel, Pete.”

“I don't see another way out of this,” he maintained.

“Is that why you brought me to a cheap bar with tough chairs?” I demanded.

Pete genuinely looked amused.

“The bar is not cheap and the chairs are not that hard unless you're trying to get too comfortable.”

A fat man with tiny red eyes came to our table. He was well dressed.

“Good afternoon, gentlemen. Welcome to Quinns Bar. I'm Brandon and I'm happy to serve you,” he said.

His smile was too wide. His face was too fat and…

Damn it.

Everything was pissing me off.

“We'll let you know when we want something,” Pete said.

The man nodded and walked off.

My problem was back in my face. My father had been breathing down my neck since I turned thirty two. He wanted me to be married. He wanted to be sure that I could run a family and still balance being the CEO of Turnip Corp, but it was stupid.

“I consider it old-school that I have to be married to prove myself to anyone.”

“You would be married if she hadn't cheated on you,” Pete said.

He wasn't entirely right.

I had recently broken off my engagement with Gina over her infidelity. My parents had matched us because she was from another billionaire family and it only made sense that I would be with a woman who understood their world.

Gina was a superficial woman and from the beginning, I had only wanted to do what my parents wanted, seeing that I didn't have the time or the patience to find myself a woman who I would consider fitting enough to be my partner.

“I would have married Gina if I eventually didn't get myself someone better,” I said.

“Well, you didn't, and you also didn't marry her. Fix your shit.”

“Idiot.”

“That's not what you say to your friends.”

“Women in this town would die to have my attention. They would line up to have me pick from them,” I said.

I wasn't lying. From the moment we walked into this place, the women here had refused to look at anything other than at us.

“Pick from them and make one your wife,” Pete suggested. His face came bright with the idea as he went on, “If you had something of a private interview and invited a class of women from this town, then you'd have a chance to pick one of them without having to go on several dates, which you hate doing.”

“But I don't want any of these women.”

I looked around. None of the women flashing me a smile were my kind of women.

“Maybe I'll pay someone to pretend to be my fiancee for a week. My father doesn't want me showing up this weekend without a woman on my side.”

“And what happens after then?”

“I'll pay the woman and she'll go her way.”

“And you'll tell your parents you broke off yet another engagement?”

“Yes. Then they may start making peace with the fact that I'm not cut out for marriage. I only care about expanding our empire and building wealth that will stay for generations to come.”

“I'm not sure that's all there is to life,” Pete mumbled dryly.

“That's all there is. Love isn't a real thing, Pete. Money is. Money can get you anything but love can't.”

“You buy too much with money, Ryan. Time to start doing less with money.”

“You can't do shit without money, stop being dramatic.”

“Paying a woman to play your fiancee is stupid. You can't buy that, Ryan.”

“I'll find a beautiful woman who needs the money enough to take the job. Women are great actresses and they usually don't worry about having to pretend.”

I reclined on the chair.

“You see, there's hardly enough time to find the right woman, go on dates and then make up my mind on whether or not they can be my partner.”

“Then maybe….”

Holy fuck.

Whoever that waitress was, she was pretty as hell and her backside jiggled with each step she took.

“I think I found someone for the job, Pete.”

CHAPTER FIVE Marie's POV If Ryan Cole didn't show up the next day or send people to come for me the next day, I was fucked. My life had just gotten more complicated in the past twenty four hours. Before Ryan Cole, I had a stable job. Brandon was toxic and he hated me, but he let me have my job for over two years. Now that was gone. I was home now. Tired from all the cruelty I'd had to deal with in just one day. The electricity had been disconnected from my room because I hadn't paid up the bill. And I didn't have water running in my apartment. This was classic rock bottom. This was probably the point where people gave up completely. I dropped on my bed, kicked off my shoes and decided it was the best time to cry. But I didn't cry. I just lay staring at the dark ceiling. The only source of light I had in the room was the light from the streets streaming in through the window. Ryan Cole. The man looked like he had stepped out of an exotic magazine. He had everything that w

CHAPTER FOUR Marie's POV Be my Fiancee for one week? That sounded like the kind of things that I read in romance books. You know, stories where the woman agrees, and then she ends up falling in love with the man. This is reality. Things like that don't happen.“Uh, I appreciate whatever it is you're offering, Mr, But I'd rather be behind that counter before Brandon comes at me.”“He wouldn't be stupid enough to do that while you're standing here,” he said with authority.“Please I have other tables to attend to, I'd appreciate it if…”“Two hundred thousand dollars for a week, Marie. You simply have to act like my fiancee and not resist me.”“What are you talking about?”“I mean it. You'll be out of this gutter of a place and—”I pulled my hand away from him in one swift movement and walked off, my face hot from embarrassment. Was it so clear that I was poor?Did he really assume he could just come in here and buy me off?I had a job. A life. A broken heart to nurse back to health

  • Roleplaying with the billionaire    The offer

CHAPTER THREE Marie's POV It was bad enough that I was walking around serving tables with tears threatening to drop off my eyes, and with Brandon constantly cussing me out. I didn't want any more troubles for the day. But Ryan fucking Cole did not stop looking in my direction once he saw me. Brandon came to me as I stood behind the counter preparing the order of a customer.“Listen, girl,” he said in that ugly voice of his, “There's something more important you're going to have to do now.”“I'm preparing an order, Bran. Unless you want some woman screaming down this place, then there's nothing more important than this order I'm preparing.”Brandon was looking at me, his mouth open.“Where did you buy the guts to talk to me that way?”“I'm just saying…”“Don't get into a fight with Brandon now, Marie,” Nancy said from behind. I didn't realize she was back on duty. Right after fucking my boyfriend, she was telling me what to do.“Fuck you! You cheap ass whoring bitch!” I screamed

  • Roleplaying with the billionaire    A billionaire in my bar

CHAPTER ONEMarie's POV It would have been a little better if I wasn't working at the same place with my boyfriend, Callum. Knowing that you got cheated on, and seeing that you got cheated on are two entirely different things. Maybe if I'd just heard it, I'd have forgiven Callum, but I caught him with Nancy, another colleague, at the worst possible time and place. My boyfriend for three years was sleeping with my only friend at work, during their short break time. I stood at the door of the storage room, my mouth wide open as I looked at them. “Damn it, Marie, why are you acting like such a creep? You look like you’re going to freak out.” Callum asked the moment they sprang apart. He was zipping his trousers and tucking his shirt as I watched. Nancy had only had to lift her skirts and bend over a table. She was arranging her clothes now, completely avoiding my eyes. “Freak out? I haven't even said anything,” I rasped. There was a thick lump in my throat and it made speaking

  • Roleplaying with the billionaire    Prologue

“You made it to my bedroom, little one,” Ryan Cole growled as we got into the undeniably huge master bedroom in the penthouse.Made it indeed.“First, I'd appreciate it if you stopped calling me ‘little one’ and just refer to me as Marie,” I said. “And second?” He asked, his eyebrow coming up. “And what's it with making it to your bedroom? The arrangement demands that I sleep here anyway.”He walked off from me, stopped at the vanity and started taking off his cufflinks. I stood there watching him, not exactly sure what I was supposed to be doing while I was still in the insanely expensive wedding dress. “Little one sounds like something really…medieval,” I muttered. He walked back to me. “Let's get you out of that dress, little one.”There. He said it again. But I was going to be a good actress who was paid well enough to do her job, and I'll just pretend he didn't coin that nauseous pet name for me. “Fine, help me out of it,” I offered. He came closer, looming over me, his
