RAMON

Phoebe pulled me close again, her hands sliding around my neck, and our lips met like a promise unspoken. I could feel the tension melt from her body little by little, replaced by something softer… something trusting. It meant everything to me.

Her fingertips brushed the side of my face like she was memorizing it, like she wanted to be sure I was real. I leaned into her touch. She didn’t say a word, but I could read her eyes, she was scared, still holding onto some of the hurt, but she was here. With me. Choosing me. And that was all I needed.

I brought my forehead to hers, letting my eyes close for a moment. Her breath was steadying, but there was still a hint of shakiness in it, not from fear, but from the weight of everything between us. And I got it. This wasn’t easy. It wasn’t perfect. But it was real.

“Are you okay?” I whispered, opening my eyes to meet hers again.

She nodded slowly. “I think so. I just… I don’t want to be afraid anymore.”

“You don’t have to be,” I said g

PHOEBEAfter the argument with Mom, I stayed back in Grandma’s room, breathing hard. My chest felt tight. I didn’t even realize I was shaking until Grandma placed her hand gently on mine.“Sweetheart,” she said softly, her voice like warm tea, “take a deep breath.”I blinked and tried to slow down my breathing, but my throat felt like it was closing. “Why does she have to be like that?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. “She doesn’t even know him that much.”Grandma looked at me with those calm eyes of hers, full of understanding. “Your mother is worried. That’s all. She just wants the best for you.”“Then she should trust me,” I said, my voice rising before I caught myself. “I’ve never done anything crazy before. I’ve always listened. Why is this so different?”“She’s scared,” Grandma said. “Sometimes fear makes people say the wrong things. Sometimes love comes out sounding like control.”I swallowed hard and looked down at our hands. Her fingers were warm and steady around m

RAMONI stood there, frozen, as Uncle Richard's hand trembled around the gun. The weight of the moment hung thick in the air. Ciara was crying, her back against the wall, her hands up in surrender."Put the gun down," I said quietly, trying to steady my voice. My heart pounded so loudly I could barely hear myself."Tie her up, Ramon," he snapped, not even looking at me. His eyes were on Ciara, wild and sharp. "She knows too much. She wants to go blabbing to Phoebe. We can’t let that happen.""She won’t say a word," I said quickly, looking at Ciara. Her eyes locked with mine, pleading."Uncle Richard, please. She’s scared. Just let her go.""I said tie her up!"Ciara whimpered. "Uncle Richard, please…you’re like family to me."He barked out a bitter laugh. "I’m not your uncle! You’re just a spoiled little brat, my nephew got entangled with. You don’t know anything about loyalty. Now tie her up, Ramon. That’s an order."I didn’t want to do it. God, I didn’t. But he wasn’t going to back

PHOEBEI jumped, whipping around. “Mom?”She pushed the door open like a gust of wind, eyes wide and full of shock. “He asked you to WHAT?!”“Marry him,” I said again, softly. “He asked me to marry him, Mom.”She just stood there for a moment, blinking like she didn’t quite hear me right. “Phoebe... are you serious right now?”“I am,” I nodded slowly. “He proposed.”Her mouth opened, then closed. She looked at Grandma, then back at me. “You said yes?”“I did.”“Oh my God.” She covered her mouth, stepping further into the room like she was about to faint. “Phoebe, what are you doing?”“Getting married soon,” I said, though I knew that wasn’t going to help. “Long enough to know I want to be with him.”Grandma stayed silent, just watching the both of us.Mom shook her head, her hands on her hips. “This is too fast. Too sudden. You can’t possibly know him well enough.”“I know how I feel,” I whispered.“That’s not enough!” she snapped, voice trembling now. “Feelings fade. People change. W

RAMONI stepped out of the room a few minutes after Phoebe left. My mind was still spinning from everything, her smile, the way she said “yes,” the way her eyes lit up when I held her close. I felt like I was floating. But I didn’t even get two steps before I heard Ciara’s voice.“Where were you?” she asked, arms crossed tightly over her chest. “You disappeared.”I didn’t look at her. I just kept walking toward the hallway. “I don’t have to report to you, Ciara.”She scoffed. “Oh, please. You were with her, weren’t you? That little…”“I said I don’t owe you anything,” I cut her off, finally turning to face her. “We’re done, Ciara. I told you before.”Her eyes narrowed, but instead of arguing, she smirked. “Fine. I was just asking. If you want to leave, I’m happy to see you go.”“Good,” I said coldly. “Because I am.”We drove back to the estate in complete silence. Ciara sat next to me in the car, staring out the window like she wished she were somewhere else, anywhere but beside me. H

PHOEBEAs soon as we got into the car and started driving home, I could barely sit still. My fingers kept tapping on my lap, my lips twitching with excitement. I turned to Winnie, who looked focused on the road but still side-eyeing me with that curious look she always had when she knew I was hiding something. She cleared her throat. “Okay, spill it. You’ve been smiling like you won the lottery. What happened back there?”I grinned, almost bouncing in my seat. “Winnie… I don’t even know where to begin.”“Try the beginning?” she said, raising an eyebrow. “Preferably before we get home.”I giggled. “Okay, okay. So after you left me with Ramon, a lot actually happened.”She gave me a look. “Uh-huh…”“And we talked. Like, really talked. About everything. About us. About Ciara.”Winnie’s eyes narrowed. “Ciara. That girl has drama written all over her.”I nodded quickly. “Yeah, but Ramon told me he’s done with her. That it was over even before it started. He said he never really loved her.”

WINNIE“Hey! What the hell, Ciara?!” I yelled, shocked by how fast she moved. She didn’t answer immediately. Her eyes were wide and wild as she tapped on the screen, trying to go through my messages.“You think I’m stupid?” she snapped. “You’re hiding something. You and that little best friend of yours are up to something!”Before I could even respond, my phone locked itself with a soft click. Ciara let out an angry huff, her fingers twitching like she wanted to throw the phone against the wall.“Unlock it. Right now,” she demanded. My jaw fell open. “Excuse me?”“You heard me,” she snapped, stepping closer to me. Her face was twisted in suspicion, her eyes darting between mine like she was trying to read my thoughts. “Don’t play dumb. I know you’re hiding something.”I took a step back, but she followed me like a shadow.“What the hell are you talking about?” I asked.“You’re plotting something with Phoebe,” she spat. “I know it. I saw the way you looked at each other earlier. All th
