Chapter 5

Alexander May sprinted into the night, through the vastly dense forest, he started to shift into his wolf form. The air was fresh and crisp with a strong wind ruffling his tan fur. He stopped to sniff the air, trying to gather any scent that may give him direction. He looked into the darkness with his sea blue eyes, trying to find any clues to the mystery.

Alexander May sniffed the snow, but there were no traces of who could have left Edith at his doorstep. He walked further into the forest, slowly, still sniffing the air. A gust of wind carried Edith's scent, along with a foul smell that made his stomach lurch. It was another wolf's scent, one that is unpure.

He stood still in the forest, trying to gather his thoughts. Alexander May finally decided to venture on and confront the beast. Although his human form said return home, his wolf form overpowered him to keep on going. The anger and fury inside of him led him further into the forest, following the scent.

After fifteen minutes of trampling through the snow, Alexander May reached the spot where the smell was overpowering. Both Edith's and a wolf. The smell of dried blood filled his nostrils.

He bent his neck, sniffing the ground, taking in nostrils full of scent. There was a trail for the wolf. There were two wolves. But no scent for Edith in the direction of home. Alexander May was baffled for a short moment.

He thought about his wife's vision. A wolf and an angel." Could it be possible that she was saved by an angel", Alexander thought curiously. But that wasn't the matter at hand, he didn't care at this moment who had saved her, he wanted to deal with the wolf that hurt her.

He followed the scent of the wolves, deeper into the forest. He knew at the end of the forest was the town which he had smelt the scent of Edith.

But Alexander was now walking in the opposite direction of home and the town. He had heard of rumors of a wolf kingdom but never did he go to explore. His job was to protect Edith, not explore new places.

At the end of the forest, Alexander stood wide-eyed at the huge castle that stood before him.

It was a few hundred feet away but the detail in the architecture could be seen, it was breathtaking. The ancient grey stone walls stood out in the snow.

Alexander instantly regretted not exploring this earlier. He would have known that it was dangerous for Edith. He shook his head in guilt. He could have taken her to some place safer, left this town to begin a new beginning.

Alexander crept along the wall of the castle looking for a way to get in. There was none. He could see guards posted all around and did not want to risk getting caught.

"Hey you", Alexander turned around to the voice. It was a guard. Alexander had already turned into his human form, taking out the mixture Mrs May had given him,he rubbed his cheeks, eliminating his wolf scent. He had to play a lost human to gather information on what he is up against.

The guards were also in their human forms but he could smell them.

They grabbed him by the collar and dragged him inside, throwing him at the feet of the prince.

Alexander cowered," Please sir, have mercy upon me, I am lost".

Alistair looked at him curled up like a ball on the floor as he roared,"get up".

Alexander rose up on his feet and his blue eyes met the prince's green eyes. They stared at each other for what felt like eternity.

" Forgive me if I have trespassed. I was trying to find my way into town, but the blizzard had become unbearable and I was just looking for shelter until the storm clears",Alexander said in his most pathetic voice. He knew he had to put up this pathetic act or the beast in front of him would not let him live to see another day. Alexander could feel the darkness radiating off Alistair.

Alistair looked directly at Alexander, inhaling deeply, he motioned to his guards. They understood him immediately and came with a bucket of ice water throwing it onto Alexander.

" Do you think im a fool? No human would make it in a blizzard", Alistair growled.
