" Get off me. Let me go", Edith screamed. The tears streamed down her pink plump cheeks. It was just after five o clock and the sun was setting rapidly on this cold winters day. The wind blew gently and the smell of snow lingered in the air. Edith stayed late at the school park with Connor, her best friend because she didn't want to go home to her misfit family. The loud knocking on the door rang through the small cottage. " Honey get the door", Mr May, Edith's father yelled as he sat on the sofa with his legs up reading the newspaper and smoking his pipe," I wonder who it could be at this hour?" Mrs May wiped her hands on her blue and green apron and walked out of the kitchen. She walked hurriedly to the door and peeped through the little crack. She saw her husband's rain coat laying on the ground and opened the door with one big swing. She gasped at the sight that lay before her. She screamed in panic kneeling down, clutching Edith in her arms. "Oh, my poor baby", she cooed as the tears streamed down her small face. Mr May got up of his one seater couch, knocking over his afternoon coffee and ran to the door. He looked at Mrs May clutching Edith and sobbing hard. Mrs May stood in the kitchen chopping vegetables for her famous stew. It was the perfect dish for this weather and to warm them up, especially Edith. She wiped a tear from the corner of her eye. Her heart felt so heavy thinking about Edith. Although Edith was not her own she felt her pain. The council finding out was the least of her worries. She was genuinely worried about Edith. Alexander May sprinted into the night, through the vastly dense forest, he started to shift into his wolf form. The air was fresh and crisp with a strong wind ruffling his tan fur. He stopped to sniff the air, trying to gather any scent that may give him direction. He looked into the darkness with his sea blue eyes, trying to find any clues to the mystery. Alexander May sniffed the snow, but there were no traces of who could have left Edith at his doorstep. He walked further into the forest, slowly, still sniffing the air. A gust of wind carried Edith's scent, along with a foul smell that made his stomach lurch. It was another wolf's scent, one that is unpure. He stood still in the forest, trying to gather his thoughts. Alexander May finally decided to venture on and confront the beast. Although his human form said return home, his wolf form overpowered him to keep on going. The anger and fury inside of him led him further into the forest, following the scent. After fifteen minutes
