Chapter Six

Lisa's POV

I smiled as I brought out my sketch book from my bag. A woman walked towards me with a smile. "Hey Lisa." She said.

"Hi, you're?" 

"Don't tell me you haven't heard of me?"

"Well, if you're a celebrity, I should have heard of you but you're not and you don't look like you." I cursed.

"Just make sure you don't fall in love with Alex." She warned. I didn't even know why she was talking about someone who didn't even tell me about her.

"I don't mix relationships with job, what can I do for you?"

"I'm Amanda, Mr Alex sent me here to get the outline of what you're planning." She said.

"I think it's too early." 

"Yeah but he wants it now, the party has been rescheduled to this evening. According to the weather forecast, rain might fall tomorrow." She answered and I nodded.

My smile faded immediately. What should a birthday party have?

"Since it's a celebrity party, it means only people of high class will be allowed into the hall and that also means we should render high quality service to them." I said and she nodded.

"We've run out of ideas, the last event that happened was a bummer." 

"There should be a birthday cake, I mean a big one with rows. Food and beverages party supplies should be available." I said and she frowned.

"It's not a kid celebrating his birthday, it's a celebrity, he might want something extra fun, something wonderful." She objected and I frowned.

"What if he wants something simple?" I asked and she became silent. "What event venue did he book?" I asked. 

"The town hall, not everyone's attending, he gave specific invitations." She answered.

"There should also be a karaoke session, don't you think?" I ventured cautiously and she frowned.

"Hell no, who goes to a party to sing songs?" She asked rudely.

"Look Amanda, I understand that you're inexperienced but that doesn't mean you should lack your sense of taste," I fired and her eyes widened. She kept quiet. "There should also be trivia competitions and the swimming pool area should be restricted for children below 16 years."

"Ma'am, Mr Alex is going to be annoyed with what you've listed, it doesn't make sense." She said.

"Take it to him and tell him to try this, not everyone wants an extravagant celebration." I replied and James walked in.

"Any problem?" He asked and Amanda left immediately. 

"She's trying to act bossy, she's acting like she's the best." I answered angrily.

"Yeah, that's what she does, she was rumored to have been dating Alex." He said and I frowned.

"Are they still dating?" I asked.

"No," He frowned. "Let's go to the cafeteria, you must be hungry." He offered and I nodded.

Alex's POV

"What's the meaning of all these?" I asked angrily.

"I don't know, she's obviously inexperienced." Amanda answered.

I looked at the paper annoyed. "Who performs karaoke at a birthday event?" 

"Absolutely no one." 

"Call Kassam for me." I ordered and she walked out of my office.

Few minutes later, Kassam walked in and sat on the visitor's chair.

"You called for me sir." He said breaking the silence.

"I have a job for you." I said and his eyes widened.

"What job sir?" 

"Have you met Lisa Kendrick?" I asked and he nodded.

"I saw her talking with Amanda about the preparation for the birthday event." He answered.

"Good, now you have just one job and that's to make sure I don't see her in the birthday party." I said and he went silent.

I could feel his eyes staring at me as I faced down. I looked at him and he avoided my gaze. 

"Sir, I can't do that, she'll definitely come for the event." 

"If I see her there, I'll sack you and it will cost you a lot, you know what I can do right?"

He nodded and walked towards the door. 

"Don't make any mistake?" I warned and he nodded walking out of the door and carefully slamming it.

James's POV

"Hey, you're eating slowly, you should eat a lot so you'll become fat." I said and she laughed.

"I'm sorry, I hate eating quickly." She replied.

"So what type of birthday event did you suggest?" 

"A simple birthday party." She replied and I coughed. The food got stuck in my throat and I fell to the floor. 

"He's choking." I heard her cry with a loud voice. I fell to the ground and started coughing, I felt I was dying.

"He's choking." I heard her cry out one more time.

Lisa's POV

I didn't know what to do, I offered to give him a glass of water but he mistakenly pushed the glass and the glass broke, hurting me. Blood came out of my finger and I screamed in pain, there was no person in the cafeteria. The chefs, waiters and waitress had gone for a meeting and it wasn't break time. 

I wanted to focus on my injured finger but James was still coughing. As I bent down to help him, I felt someone drag me, It was Alex, he dragged me to the side of the wall far from him.

"What do you think you're doing?" I asked.

"I'm trying to help you."

"I'm not the one choking or dying," I said. "You should be helping James." 

"I don't care if he lives or dies, I don't want you to get hurt." He said and my eyes widened.

I tried pushing him but I hurt myself more. He looked at my finger and saw the wound. "How can you be careless?" He asked and tore a piece of his inner shirt. He used it to tie my finger and it stopped the bleeding. By that time, the waiters were already attending to James.

"Follow Kassam, he'll take you to the dressing room." He nodded and pointed towards the door. I nodded and followed Kassam, we kept on walking towards a dark light. 

"This doesn't seem like the dressing room." I muttered, a little bit scared.

"Well, it is." He said and pushed me into a room. I held him before he could close the door and we both fell to the floor. I sprang up and kicked him in his stomach. 

He groaned heavily and made for the door, he held my legs and I leapt backwards, rolling behind a table before hitting my head on the wall.

I passed out.
