HOPE'S POV.

One by one, people stepped forward to say their final goodbyes.

Some placed flowers on the coffin.

Some whispered prayers.

Some cried openly.

I stayed where I was, watching silently.

Hunter’s hand rested lightly against my back.

He didn’t say anything.

He just stayed there.

Eventually, the line became shorter.

And shorter.

Until there were only a few people left.

My heart began beating faster.

It was almost my turn.

Hunter seemed to notice.

“Hope,” he said quietly, “you don’t have t

HOPE'S POV.A distant bell suddenly echoed through the underground halls. The sound froze me immediately. Then voices erupted again somewhere farther behind me.“She crossed into the western tunnels!”“Move!”My eyes widened and I ran again. My lungs burned violently now, but I forced myself forward through another narrow corridor before suddenly skidding to a stop when my eyes landed on what was before me.Bars. Cells. Dozens of them.I stared in shock.People looked back at me from behind the iron doors. They look thin. Weak. Injured. Some barely looked alive. My stomach twisted painfully. One older man stepped closer to the bars slowly when he saw me.“You’re not one of them.”His voice sounded rough from disuse.I moved closer carefully.“What is this place?”The man laughed bitterly.“A grave.”Another prisoner lifted her head weakly from the floor.“You’re from Red Moon…”I froze.“How do you know that?”“You smell like their territory.”My frown deepened. That was strange. I ha

HOPE’S POV.The stone finally shifted beneath my hands.A sharp crack echoed through the small cell as part of the wall gave way, and for one brief second I froze in disbelief. My fingers were bleeding badly now from forcing the broken metal into the cracks over and over again, and sweat clung heavily to my skin despite the cold underground air.Outside the cell, shouting continued through the corridors.“They searched the eastern hall already!”“Check the lower tunnels!”“Magnus said they must not leave this place alive!”My pulse slammed violently against my ribs.I didn't even know who they were talking about. I didn't know what was going on, or what was causing the chaos. That somehow felt worse.I shoved harder against the loose stone and finally managed to pull it free completely. Dust exploded into the air immediately, making me cough as darkness revealed itself behind the wall. Not a tunnel exactly.More like an old crawlspace barely large enough for a person to squeeze throug

HOPE’S POV.Pain was the first thing I felt when I woke up.A sharp pounding sat behind my eyes, heavy enough to make my stomach twist the moment I tried to move. For a few seconds, I could not even open my eyes properly. My head felt too heavy, my body slow and weak like something was pressing down on me from every direction. Then the cold hit me, not normal cold.Stone cold. The kind that settles deep into your bones and stays there. My eyes finally opened slowly, and for a moment all I saw was darkness and weak light flickering somewhere beyond iron bars.Wait... Iron bars....?My heartbeat stopped for one terrifying second. Memory crashed into me immediately after that. The tunnels. The fake guard. The men attacking me.“Careful. Magnus wants her alive.” the words repeated in my head with cruel clarity. I pushed myself upright too quickly and pain exploded through my head hard enough to make me groan.“Easy,” my wolf muttered darkly inside me. “You were drugged.”I forced myself t

  • SECOND CHANCE: CLAIMED BY THE LYCAN KING   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED TWENTY SEVEN

HUNTER'S POV.The moment Hope disappeared, the entire castle stopped feeling like home.It felt violated, Corrupted. Every hallway suddenly looked dangerous. Every shadow felt like a threat waiting to move. Guards rushed through the corridors carrying out my orders, but the sound around me barely registered properly anymore. All I could think about was her.Hope was gone.Taken from inside my own castle. My jaw tightened so hard it hurt.“She could not have gotten far yet,” Elder Murphy said beside me as we moved quickly through the corridor leading toward the lower tunnels.I did not answer him immediately because if I spoke too soon, I was not sure what would come out of my mouth.Rage was already boiling dangerously close to the surface. The unconscious guard that was revived had been carried upstairs already. Another escort guard had been found dead near the lower passage. His throat had been slit cleanly. This had been the plan all along. It had all been a trap and I had been st

  • SECOND CHANCE: CLAIMED BY THE LYCAN KING   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED TWENTY SIX

HUNTER'S POV.The moment I realized Hope should have returned already, but was nowhere to be found, something inside me grew restless.I stood abruptly from the chair near the window.Too much time had passed.Far too much. So why was she not back yet? What could the prisoner possibly have to say that would take this long. Unless something else came up while she was there and she had to take care of it, but even so, she would have found a way to let me know. One of the escort guards should have reported back by now at least, knowing that I would be worried if I didn't see her.As if on que, a sharp knock sounded against the door.“Enter.”A guard rushed inside quickly, breathing hard.“My King—”My heart jumped as soon as I saw the panic on his face and I just knew something was wrong.“Where is she?”The guard froze slightly, his eyes darting around the room as if he was looking for an item gone missing.“I… thought she was with you.”Ice flooded my chest instantly.“What?”The guard

HOPE'S POV.Hunter looked at me sharply as soon as the words left my mouth.“No.”“He may actually know something.” I tried to reason with him, but Hunter immediately shook his head.“Or this could be another trap. I don't trust this, Hope. It's too convenient.”“That does not mean we ignore it.”His eyes narrowed slightly.“You are not going down there alone.”“I won’t be alone.” I said.Hunter shook his head immediately.“This entire thing feels wrong. You just got attacked and almost died, Hope. How are you not being more careful right now?”He was angry and I understood why.Honestly I did. Part of me agreed. But another part of me kept thinking about the symbol.About the flashes.About the prisoners kneeling in the snow. If one of those men knew something, we could not afford to lose it.“If they’re executed tomorrow before we question them properly, then we lose possible answers,” I argued carefully.Hunter’s jaw clenched again.“We can question them without involving you.”“Bu

HUNTER'S POV.“How can I lead if I don’t even remember?” I asked. “How can I make decisions for people if I don’t even know my own past?”“You will learn,” the old alpha said, leaning back slightly. His eyes never left mine. “You will be guided. But first, you must accept one truth: you are the Alp

HUNTER'S POV.The meeting hall was silent. Too silent.I sat at the long, polished table, my hands resting on the smooth wood, but I couldn’t keep them still. They fidgeted, rubbed together, clenched and unclenched as my mind spun in circles. Around me, the elders and the old alpha—Derek’s father—w

  • SECOND CHANCE: CLAIMED BY THE LYCAN KING   CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT

HOPE'S POV.I felt completely lost.Everything I thought I knew about today, about this life I was building with Hunter, suddenly seemed fragile, like a castle of sand ready to crumble at the first wave. I had already made up my mind. If Derek refused to release Hunter from the dungeon, I would fin

HOPE’S POV.I woke to warmth. At first, I thought it was the blanket wrapped around me. But then I felt it—someone holding me. I felt the careful, steady pressure against my body. Arms wrapped around my waist, strong yet gentle. At first, I almost panicked, the first thought in my head being a que
