HOPE'S POV.

One by one, people stepped forward to say their final goodbyes.

Some placed flowers on the coffin.

Some whispered prayers.

Some cried openly.

I stayed where I was, watching silently.

Hunter’s hand rested lightly against my back.

He didn’t say anything.

He just stayed there.

Eventually, the line became shorter.

And shorter.

Until there were only a few people left.

My heart began beating faster.

It was almost my turn.

Hunter seemed to notice.

“Hope,” he said quietly, “you don’t have t

HOPE'S POV. The healers finally left the room one by one after that, leaving only two guards outside the chamber doors. Then it was just me and Hunter. The room became quiet except for the rain and the soft crackling fire near the far wall. I sat beside the bed silently, watching him. Waiting. Hunter looked pale beneath the dim firelight. Too pale. Like there was barely any blood left in his veins. I hated seeing him like this. Weak. Motionless. It didn’t feel real. This was Hunter. The man who tore through enemies like they were nothing just minutes ago. The man everyone feared. And tonight he nearly died in front of me. The thought alone made my chest ache. Slowly, I reached over and brushed some damp hair away from his forehead carefully. His skin still felt too hot. “You scared me,” I whispered quietly. No response. Just silence. My eyes burned slightly from exhaustion, but I forced myself to stay awake. I couldn’t sleep, not while he was like this. I leaned

  • SECOND CHANCE: CLAIMED BY THE LYCAN KING   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED THIRTY EIGHT

HOPE'S POV.The moment we arrived back at the castle, panic spread everywhere.Warriors rushed through the halls carrying Hunter unconscious between them while servants and guards moved out of the way quickly. Blood still soaked through the cloth wrapped around his side, and every second that passed made the fear inside my chest worse.I stayed beside him the entire time.I couldn’t leave him.Not now.“Move!”“Get a healer now!”“The King’s injured!”The voices echoed loudly through the castle while the warriors carried him toward his chambers. Hunter still hadn’t woken up since collapsing inside the cave, and the longer he stayed unconscious, the more terrified I became.By the time we reached his room, several healers were already waiting. They quickly placed him on the bed while everyone immediately started working around him.One healer carefully cut away the blood-soaked fabric around Hunter’s wound while another prepared herbs and medicine nearby. The smell of wolfsbane hit the

HOPE'S POV.The weapon looked wrong somehow. Silver markings ran along the blade, and even from several feet away I could smell wolfsbane strongly enough to make my stomach twist.Magnus stepped back immediately after striking him.Hunter ripped the blade back out with a furious snarl before slamming his fist directly into Magnus hard enough to send him crashing through part of the ruins. The ground shook beneath us.But Hunter nearly fell immediately afterward. My heart pounded in my chest.Blood poured heavily from the wound while dark veins slowly spread outward across his skin.Poison.Goddess.The poison was already affecting him.Hunter still tried to fight despite the injury. He tore through another attacker seconds later, but his movements were slower now, less steady than before. One of his own warriors rushed toward him through the chaos.“My King!”Hunter turned sharply toward the movement so suddenly that the warrior froze. For one terrifying second, Hunter looked ready to

  • SECOND CHANCE: CLAIMED BY THE LYCAN KING   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED THIRTY SIX

HOPE’S POV.The moment Magnus stepped out of the darkness, the entire atmosphere changed.Even the hunters reacted to him instantly. The growling creatures that had been circling me moments ago lowered themselves slightly as he approached, their glowing eyes fixed on him with unsettling obedience. The Kingbreaker moved aside without protest, and for the first time since this nightmare began, I understood clearly who truly controlled everything here.Magnus did not look rushed or angry despite the war already breaking out around us. He walked calmly through the ruins while distant sounds of fighting echoed across the forest. Smoke drifted through the cold night air behind him, and the silver markings carved into his dark armor caught the moonlight faintly as he stopped several feet away from Hunter. His eyes settled on him quietly.“You’re remembering faster than expected,” he said.Hunter immediately tensed beside me.I looked at him quickly and saw the change in his expression right

  • SECOND CHANCE: CLAIMED BY THE LYCAN KING   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED THIRTY FIVE

HOPE'S POV.He looked almost thoughtful now.“Magnus wanted your memories triggered fully.”Confusion slid through me immediately at his words. Hunter’s expression darkened.“You used her.”“Yes.”The answer came without hesitation. My stomach twisted violently. The Kingbreaker continued calmly.“Magnus believed emotional shock would force the memories to surface faster.”Hunter’s jaw tightened dangerously.“And if they returned?”The Kingbreaker looked directly at him.“Then you would destroy yourself long before reaching Magnus.”Silence crashed through the ruins. My pulse hammered painfully. That was Magnus’ plan? Not just kidnapping me—But forcing Hunter into becoming whatever terrifying thing he used to be? But I still didn't understand fully. I thought Magnus liked that Hunter couldn't remember? I thought he prefared it because he believes it would make Hunter weak and easier to take down. So how come suddenly he was doing everything possible to force trigger Hunter's memory?

HOPE'S POV.“Entire territories surrendered because of him.” he went on.I shook my head immediately. “Shut up.”The Kingbreaker looked amused by my denial.“You think I’m lying because he forgot himself.” His eyes shifted toward Hunter. “That was always the only reason people survived him.”My stomach tightened hard.Hunter suddenly grabbed his head roughly.Another memory.Another flash.I could see how much it was hurting him.“What are you seeing?” I asked softly.Hunter swallowed hard.“Snow,” he muttered quietly. “So much snow…”His breathing became uneven again.“And screaming.”The ruins felt colder suddenly. The Kingbreaker spoke again.“This land still reeks of death because of him.”“That's enough!” I snapped immediately. “No one asked you for information.”The Kingbreaker finally looked directly at me.“You truly have no idea what kind of man he used to be.”Anger burned through me instantly.“You know nothing about him.”That actually made the Kingbreaker laugh softly.“N

HUNTER’S POV.I sat in the meeting room. The elders from the royal pack sat across from me.Three of them.Their expressions were calm… but not relaxed.Respectful… but firm.Like they had already decided how this conversation would go.“We need to discuss this matter further, my King,” one of them

HOPE'S POV.My eyes almost popped out of their sockets in shock. It wasn’t a gentle kiss. It wasn’t mutual. It was aggressive, demanding, desperate. HOPE'S POV.The night felt quieter than usual. Not peaceful. Just… still.I sat on the wooden bench just outside the house, my hands resting in my lap, fingers loosely intertwined.
