CHAPTER TWO

SUSAN'S P.O.V

"Say what now? What the heck!" I exclaimed in a loud voice, he didn't flinch. Just kept staring at me. I glanced at the door then took a deep breath.

"Can you repeat that, I feel like I didn't hear you well." I chuckled. Maybe he said something like 'merry me' right?

He raised a full eyebrow, I felt intimidated.

"You heard well. Marry me."

I blinked. So it wasn't merry me.

"No!" I shook my head and pressed my lips in a thin line.

"Why?" He asked.

Really!

"Dude, I just came out from a marriage that didn't do me good. Do you think I want to enter another one?" I placed my hands in an X sign. "No."

He looked a bit confused.

"Its not going to be a real marriage."

I looked at him with skeptical eyes.

"What do you mean? You just said I should marry you. What marriage isn't real? I'm out of here." I stood up, placing my feet on the cold, titled floor.

"One million dollars!"

I stumbled and sat back on the bed.

Say what!

"What did you say?"

He nodded.

"One million dollars. You marry me for a period of two years on paper. No sex, no love."

I leaned in closer over the bed, my face almost to his, my eyes wide.

"Go on."

"All you need to do is be my contract wife and my secretary. I know you can do that much since you were once a secretary."

"How do you know that?"

"None of your business. Do you accept?"

I bit my lips slowly, chewing over his offer. I mean, its like a dream come true especially at this point in my life. I hope there are no hidden cameras here. But he looks so serious, it can't be a prank. And if I agree, I just need to pretend and get paid, and it comes with a job. I missed working, Abel made me stop after we got married. Should I take it?

"What do you gain from this?"

"A wife to get pesky women off my back and to shut my mother up."

"Ah, so its family trouble eh. As for the women, its expected considering how you look."

He frowned.

"How do I look?"

I stared him up and down and pointed at him. "Like...this."

He was still staring, looking like he had no idea of what I was saying. I let out an exasperated groan.

"Fine. You look hot, sext, handsome. Are you satisfied?"

"I knew I was sexy and handsome, no one needed to tell me that." He deadpanned.

Is this guy serious? I have a narcissist in front of me.

"Okay, so you know that and you still don't like the attention?"

"Its meaningless. They only want my money."

"And body." I pipped in.

He growled, like literally growled that had me freezing.

"Do you accept?".

"Um...well..." I gulped.

"Don't think about refusing. Right now you are divorced, abandoned by your husband of three years for another lady, someone you called your friend."

"How did you...?" I whispered, my eyes wide.

"Chased out of your home and then left to die after suffering a fatal accident."

I clenched my hands, my corner of my eyes started feeling hot. "Stop it."

"Right now, you have no home, no job, no family and no friends."

"STOP IT!" I screamed, pressing my hands to cover my ears. "How dare you remind me of everything I just went through? You're a monster! How could you."

I broke down on the floor and sobbed, hiding my face in between my knees. I had been trying to forget it. I knew that I wouldn't avoid the reality but did he really have to throw it all in my face?

My life is over. In just a span of months, I lost everything. My husband, my home. All because of that woman that I foolishly called my friend. I'm a failure.

I stayed in that pose, crying for a while, then I felt something warm beside me. I looked up, Mr cold guy was crouching beside me staring at me with those unreadable eyes. My eyes narrowed in a glare.

"Leave me alone."

"I'm not mocking you. I'm only saying you have no choice but to take my offer."

I took a deep breath.

"Why me? You can choose anyone else "

"Yes, I can. But I choose you. And I promise that I will protect you for as long as you are with me."

I scoffed and raised my head to face him.

"Protect me? Do I look like I need protection?"

His jaw moved.

"You didn't before, but you might now."

What was he talking about. What the hell! I'm already in hell anyway, best to take his offer.

"Fine." I sniffed and cleaned my face while holding out a hand towards him. "It's a deal."

He stared at my hand for a few seconds, I was getting ready to pull it back when he took it firmly in his. His hand was hard and warm, callused and rough. Was he a fighter or something?.

"Deal."

I nodded then got you my feet.

"So, how do we do this boss?"

He stood up and headed to the door.

"Follow me...and don't call me boss unless we are in the office."

I raised my hand and saluted with a smile.

"Yes sir."

He stopped just asking he opened the door and stared at me, I looked up at him with a cheeky smile, he just shook his head and left.

"Wait for me." I hurried after him.

He walked too fast, I realized I was still in a hospital pajamas as I rushed out of the big hospital. Once I was outside, the bright sun assaulted my eyes, I took a deep whiff of fresh air, thankful to be out of that place that only smelled if chemicals and medicine..I never did like hospitals. I trotted after him as he headed towards a black SUV, nice ride. He opened the passenger door for me.

"Get in."

"Okay."

I waited until he was done buckling his seatbelt before asking.

"So where are going?"

He started the car and answered without looking at me.

"To get married."
