Laila's POV

“I won’t give them the baby,” my fingers tightened protectively around the small bundle in my arms.

I searched Kieran’s face for a flicker of agreement, expecting him to side with me and say they were bluffing and they couldn't possibly start a war for the custody of a child.

“Can they declare war? I'm the mother of my baby I deserve as much right to my son as Damien,” I urged as he remained silent

“Men have stirred up war for less,” Kieran remarked then looked towards Alex. “What are their chances of winning?”

Alex dropped his palette wiping his hand on a rag and stepped towards Kieran taking the letter from him.

“You stole his baby?” Alex said, looking amused.

“He wasn't safe there,” I interjected, trying to make him understand.

“I’m lost here. I thought you said you were in love with him?”

I paused my gaze instinctively landing on Kieran but he stared past us, clearly uninterested.

Love was a strong word but I didn't feel any hate towards Damien.
