Laila's POV

Getting into the car was far more complicated than it should’ve been. The gown was too big, the corset pressed into my ribs, and the heels were an unnecessary form of torture.

“Careful,” Kieran murmured, steadying me with one hand as I tried to lower myself into the seat without ripping the dress.

“Are you sure you'll be okay?” Kieran asked again

“I’m fine,” I lied.

He gave me a look that said no, you’re not, but he didn’t argue. Once I was finally inside, I exhaled—well, tried to—but the corset made every breath shallow and sharp.

“This thing is a death trap,” I muttered under my breath, tugging slightly at the top seam.

Kieran’s lips twitched like he was suppressing a smile. “You look beautiful,” he said.

My stomach did a couple of flips and I looked down at the diamonds on the dress to avoid eye contact.
