Sixteen

I had a heavy feeling in my gut as I ran Leon's doorbell. I didn't know what I was about to walk into and how he was going to be. I was glad he wanted to see me but I wasn't sure how talkative he would be. It was late, I stayed with nan while she ate and helped her get into bed. The door opened and Leon stood back, letting me in. He looked awful too, he was only in a pair or shorts and normally I would want to jump him.

"Nan made you some chicken," I whispered, handing him the container.

"Thanks," he chuckled sadly. I followed him into the living room as he sat down, putting the food on the table.

"Are you okay?" I asked, knowing the answer.

"Nope, not at all." He put his head back. I rubbed my hands together, trying to think of what to say.

"What happened?" I asked, staring at him. He looked over at me, tears in his eyes. I grabbed his hand, putting it into my lap.

"I'm scared you're going to leave." His voice was painfully sad and it was doing nothing for my anxiety.
