Chapter Five: The Last Straw

Xurion's POV

I threw the last of my stuffs into my bag.

“Five years. There's nothing much of my stuffs here anyways.”

In the next few days, I'd be back to my dreams.

And I don't have to bother Circe anymore.

A knock came on the front door.

I boxed my bag into the cupboard and then went to get the door.

Caspian, Circe's twin brother walked in, his both hands dug into his pockets.

His curly blonde hair fell to his face and he looked just like Circe, save for his eyes, that's rather brown and the innocent glasses that sat on his nose bridge.

He had a body structure just like Gary, tall and built, but he is undoubtedly different from him. If arrogance had a face and pride had a name, it would be Caspian in person.

Right now he's wearing a deep scowl, I could mistake him for a gorilla or something.

The heck! This wasn't the right time to be pissed off.

“Hey man! Didn't we discuss this?” His pissing low tone asked, as he shut the door with his leg, “ I knock and you open as soon as possible, I mustn't knock twice, huh?”

I just scoffed and walked away.

“ Hey man are you deaf or you got your ears infected?” He snapped, pulling me back, “ Apologize now or I’m gonna tell Circe you kicked me out of the house and disrupt your peace with her. You don't want her pissed at you, do you?”

“Get your hands off me,” I said, my voice low. I snatched my arm from him and walked away.

It's morning dear God.

This time he didn't stop me. His stern voice pricked my ears.

“You know I used to wonder why father treated you so well along with us, I mean, you don't even have one,” he started, his voice pissingly high, “ And I want to know. Did father raise you to marry Circe? Or she's just your plan to exit your poor life?”

His question made me stop walking. I froze in a spot and my mind surfed for an answer, but none came at the moment.

I burned in annoyance.

“Wait, is that how you see me?” I turned and asked.

Confusion teased my mind. Because all I did, was be loyal and grateful to my benefactor.

He shrugged his shoulders,“ No doubts, you definitely are. And so, dad asked you to play husband to Circe, didn't he?”

My blood went cold.

My chest practically thud alongside my heart.

It was just Gary and I.

How did Caspian know about the contract?

Caspian stepped close to me, clearing his throat over my face, “ Hello dude! Did I ring a bell? Oops, i’m really sorry about that. How about I get you off my family's wealth first and get Circe to divorce your pity ass.”

Circe. Oh gosh, she'd be hurt if she found out the proposal, the wedding, our marriage, everything was all pappered.

“You are getting everything wrong, Caspian,”

“Oh yeah? I don't care if do, Xurion,” he argued and poked my chest, his right brow twitched, “ And you know what? I love my sister and I love my dad too. I know dad doesn't want Circe to know because it'd hurt her. But I won't let you break my family with your presence.”

“I wasn't gonna break any family, Caspian. It was just a help I rendered and I love this family very much.” I confessed, gritting back my frustrations.

I had sacrificed everything since I came into Gary's family. I was raised as one of his own, clothed, fed and housed for years.

I couldn't be more grateful.

I gave my time and loyalty.

All my intentions were positive.

Caspian and I used to be the best duo. We grew up doing almost everything together. School activities. Tennis teams, even at home.

But then he had suddenly changed.

And now he saw me as a threat. Maybe an enemy.

I hated that all of this even existed.

“You are not family, dude. You should quit acting a part and playing favorite son, cause you were never one,” He said, walking past me. “ And so you know, Circe is in love with Drayton and guess what? I want Drayton for my sister not a taint to her class like you.”

A sharp knock came on the door before the words could settle.

I walked towards it and turned the knob as I got close enough.

My heart ripped open in ache.

The last man I wanted to meet.

Drayton….Drayton fucking Vale.

He stood there at the door.

Tall and…shamefully imposing.

Hair goddamly tinted white and teeth glinting as he smiled, like he had a bulb in his mouth or something.

My stomach twisted like a knife had been plunged in it.

Not only because the butthole that frolicked with the woman I loved was standing at my door like he belonged here.

But, because he stood there smiling and, his fingers locked with—Circe’s.

They both smiled connectively, probably lost in each other's arms.

But, they stopped holding hands as soon as they found out I was standing there.

Drayton cleared his throat and raked his hair with his fingers, grinning.

“Hi.”

My eyes darted between them for a second.

The casual in his voice made my pulse skitter.

And as much as I wanted to lunch at him and least, dislocate a bone or break his nose. I heaved inwardly and kept my anger at bay as much as I could.

“Xurion?” Circe's voice pulled me out of my thought, “ Can I come into my house?” She asked.

I moved off the doorway I hadn't realized I was barricading.

A thousand thoughts streamed into my mind. But I pushed them aside and finally closed the door.

“Cee, you are back, thank goodness,” Caspian's voice turned our heads towards the stairs. Now he had his clothes changed to a tennis jersey.

I can't figure out what Caspian was up to wearing that smug.

But I just sat at the dining table far enough to keep me from their group and of course close enough to know why Circe had to bring Drayton into the house.

Caspian suddenly looked sorry, settling with Circe and Drayton in the dimly litted sitting room, “ Cee, look I didn't mean to get your husband upset,” he started and I couldn’t help but frown, “I only wanted to come see my sister, I didn't know Xurion will find it upsetting, I'm sorry please,” he said and turned to face me, his hands pleading.

“I'm sorry, Xurion, for coming into your house without asking, I mean, man you are right and I'm sorry,” My brows twitched up, in confusion. Maybe disbelief.

What in the empty space full of ships was he saying?

Circe turned to me, her expression mild, “Xurion, did you ask my brother to stay away from my house? What's happening?” Circe asked.

I blinked, still trying to organize my thought. “I don't-”

“Hi, Drayton good you are here” Caspian guffawed, cutting in and taking Drayton's hand, “ You two look so good together.”

Now, they both looked at each other and smiled.

“Drayton you know you've always been the one I wanted for Circe, you are the one she really wanted,” Caspian, laughed cockily. “ She travelled across the world to see you and wouldn't stop talking about how much she missed you.”

Circe looked uneasy, I could bet she hadn't seen Caspian's tantrums coming too.

Heat rushed to my chest and I folded my arms watching them discussing their hearts out without care that I could hear.

“When you both are finally ready, I'll personally plan your wedding, I promise.” Caspian laughed finally leaning against the couch, and smirking mischievously at me as if saying ‘I told you’

“Cas, shut up,” Circe snapped shyly, she looked like she’d seen a ghost. “ Xurion don't listen to my brother.” She turned to me, lowering her gaze, “You know he doesn't mean any of it.”

“It's nothing to be angry about, Xurion.” Drayton added, smiling.

“No! I'm not mad” I said and shrugged emotionlessly. Face stoic and body calm as if I'm not affected.

Circe cleared her throat, “ Yeah, okay, Drayton just got back in town and he's looking for a new place to stay, so I figured why not let him crash here for a few nights, if you don't mind, Xurion?

“Ouch,” Caspian laughed.

My pulse stopped.

“Wait, Drayton is moving in???” I asked shocked.

“Uhm, I-i thought,” she stuttered, her face worried. Maybe.

“Drayton is gonna stay with us?” I asked again, though gentle but rage thugged behind my chest.

She hadn't only brought her ex-boyfriend into our home and right before me.

She also wants him to stay with us.

I can't be more grateful that I divorced you Circe.

Fortunately, I only got few days to stay in your house, then I will be gone for good. And you won't have to bother about our marriage anymore.

“Circe are you sure about that? You will let me stay in your home?” Drayton asked, he took Circe's hand gently in his and rubbed slowly. “Xurion, if you aren't comfortable with it I'll just figure myself out.” He added sounding simple and wearing a deplorable face.

Circe chirped not sparing me a glance, “ Hey, Xurion doesn't mind. He.. he's very different. He's nice and very accommodating.”

You mean a glorified housekeeper, to cook, clean and care for the both of you.

“He doesn't look like he's thrilled about it, I'll just go back to my hotel,” Drayton said and was immediately on his feet.

The urge to hit him in the face made my fist tighten and my arm veiny in restraint.

And I swear I won't regret hitting him for breaking my marriage.

My chest swelled and compressed underneath the thin shirt.

Circe turned, face firm with frown and eye glassy with irritation and something that would piss me.

“Xurion?? Get our guest’s bags, now!”

Fuck it.

My fist unclenched just enough to keep me from breaking something.

Because I've lost the willpower to do anything. Not even take a proper shower.“Just leave me alone,” My voice drooled out, almost inaudible, as I brought the bottle of whiskey to my lips again. But Drayton took it before it even touched.“Give that to me,” he mumbled, his face webbed with worry.“Give it back,” I fought, my head swirled slightly, coupled with the ache that throbbed hard. I held it in place with both hands, my fingers finding solace in gripping my hair. And I felt the warmth seep into my palm. Caspian's tone was heavy. He looked straight at me, “ Stop doing this to yourself, Cee. When did you start drinking for fuck sake? Look…look at yourself.” His face further smeared with confusion. “I’ve never seen her like this before.” Drayton sided. He tried

The atmosphere was still and gloomy like it could see right through me and it could feel the emptiness brewing in my chest. My breath bated out. My eyes sunked and tired from searching. “It has to be here. It has to be somewhere in here,” I flipped the bed and then searched the wardrobe. Each place I turn, every corner I search, refuses to provide what I seek. I wrestled with my hair, disheveling it.“I think I'm going crazy.” My voice is breathy and my head became heavy with continuous taps of headache.There. I blinked, taking in the surprise. I sauntered towards the bedside shelf, perusing through it like my life depended on what I was searching for. It did. And I wanted to get it back—my whole life.My hands shook as I picked the file on the shelves and I hoped it wasn't what I just saw.A divor
