Circe's POV

The tension in the room grew thick, it could choke.

My eyes shut as I spoke, “ Xurion, get his bags,” I persuaded.

But he didn't move.

Instead he looked like he was about to break down the building.

Definitely on Drayton.

And I hate that he over-flogs my intentions…everytime.

“I'll get that,” Caspian offered, grabbing Drayton's bags and leading him.

“Xurion, we need to talk.”

“You sure have some explanations, Circe,” Xurion knocked off, “ What is…” he paused, running his hands through his hair.

It's frustrating that I don't even know why he's acting up, practically over what's not.

I mean, Drayton?

“Stop it, okay?? You have to calm down,”

“Stop what exactly?” He snapped, and I swear I saw jealousy flood his eyes, but they disappeared almost instantly, “What is he doing here?” He asked, face dull in anger or something.

“Oh oh, Babe you see, I understand what you feel,” I started, holding him, “ He's just a…damn friend, and he's not gonna be here for too long, okay?”

“He wasn't supposed to be here, you know that. He's…he's all over you, can't you see it?” He huffed, his frame hardened.

My skin practically grew thorns.

I knew it.

Jealous…always.

I chewed my teeths as words popped into my cheeks, “ HE is helping the company,” I ranted. “ And hey, I don't know what you have mixed up in your mind about him but he's helping me achieve my dreams. You don't even know anything about my daily life, you don't know what project I'm working on right now. Do you even know what new color was used for my office?”

“You don't let me, Circe!” He gnarled and shit, he was supposed to be sorry.

He paced the room as he spoke, “You don't tell me about your job, you don't share about your day. You don't even want me close to your company.”

“That's because you don't know anything about the industry, and I didn't say don't come close to the company, just don't be a distraction,” I corrected, blinking a sweat off my lash.

I had been plunged into this mess of a marriage years back.

I wanted it badly, then.

But now I think I overgrew it.

Somehow it just doesn't feel right with Xurion anymore.

And just when I thought I had gotten over Drayton.

He came back and everything returned, the torture of ache, the love I didn't feel for Xurion. Everything.

And though, I don't want to admit that I'm in love with Drayton.

But he came in when I needed him the most, to sign my big project.

And I'm only just protecting the company's interest.

“I'm done with this conversation,” he said quietly, pulling me out of my mind and made to leave.

I double crossed him, “ hey, all of this sucks already,” I said, patting my forehead, his gaze fixed tiredly on me and his lips still, “ Can we go to the pitch and play some game,” I offered, and his brows tweaked up.

He used to love those sports, if I remembered correctly.

Hesitance flipped across his face.

“It would be fun, and Caspian needs a teammate too, it just the three of us yet,”

“Three? You mean Drayton is coming?” He asked, crossing his arm over his chest.

I nodded.

And he scoffed and turned to leave again.

“You could get along at the pitch, Xurion, don't ruin the fun, do it for me please,” I said, sweetly and he just huffed a yes later and left.

“Guys! Let's go,” I hollered, heading to get my kit bag.

Much later, I finally came out, my stuff bag in hand and the other spare hand struggling to fix my loosened hair into the bun.

I walked towards the car, where Drayton and Caspian stood leaning against the black ride.

My eyes scanned the front yard till they stopped on Xurion.

He stood off, away from the duo, like he exempted himself. His hands dug deep into his pockets. His black bag slung across his shoulder over his chest.

“I'll get that milady,” Drayton leaned in, took my bag and winked at me playfully.

His hair a mix of creamy white strands and a little black, was held in place with a black headband.

He wore a corresponding black shorts and a fitted white sports top, that sculpted out his abs and chest.

I gulped quickly, taking off my eyes and bowed curtly, “Thank you, gentleman!”

His face lit up in a smile and his eyes lingered on my body then he bit his lower lips seductively and muttered something I didn't catch.

His smile reminded me of nights I didn't want to remember.

I waved the thoughts off, fixing my hair and straightening my skirt.

I settled into the driver's seat, the feeling of excitement washed over me as this would be my first time in a while, I'd be having a physical exercise away from the company.

“ Thought we were gonna wait forever,” Caspian seethed, sarcastically and settled at the back, his eyes glued to his phone and headset strapped around his neckline.

Drayton sat with me at the front, utterly excited too, “ We used to be a team in college, remember?” He asked, smile broadened.

“We'd sneak up at our opponent and send threatening texts,” I chirped laughing.

His grey eyes glinted, “ You remember that too?”

We both laugh as I nodded.

And soon a knock came on the door next to Drayton.

Xurion.

The glass lowered revealing him and the car went quiet.

He stood domineering.

“Get down!” I heard him say.

“What?” Drayton asked, maybe gasped a little.

My brow twitched.

Drayton looked back at me in equal perplexion.

“Drayton, get down and take the back seat.” Xurion repeated, his voice was flat, yeah, but it didn't sound like he was bluffing.

Shit.

I'm fucking tired of this drama.

“I can't sit at the back,” Drayton tuned out, glancing between Xurion and I pleadingly, “ I get car sick after I was diagnosed with…”

“You were sick??” Caspian asked.

“Yeah, when I was younger, I had this cold around my chest, you know.” Drayton explained.

The pain in his eyes made me sick for a moment.

“You heard him, Xurion, he gets car sick. Just let the poor man be safe around you this once,” I said sharply, still trying to imagine how Drayton must have been hurt.

“Why should…” Xurion tried to say and paused.

His frame hardened, his eyes glared at Drayton, “ You know what? Circe, get behind.”

“What's that?” I asked, confusion widening my eyes.

“I’ll drive us to the pitch,” He uttered, walking to my side and yanking the door open.

Pete followed too. “I can swear this is the best one year of my life,” Pete remarked, raising his hand so it shook mine. “ Yeah, this is my third journey, but serving the world at your side was a great honour, Xurion.”My chest swelled with pride. Circe's POV “You can't keep doing this to yourself all the time.” Caspian cowered beside me at the living room, while Drayton was already seated next to me.It was a sunny Monday and I ought to be at work, but I wasn't. Because I've lost the willpower to do anything. Not even take a proper shower.“Just leave me alone,” My voice drooled out, almost inaudible, as I brought the bottle of whiskey to my lips again. But Drayton took it before it even touched.“Give that to me,” he mumbled, his face webbed with worry.“Give it back,” I fought, my head swirled slightly, coupled with the ache that throbbed hard. I held it in place with both hands, my fingers finding solace in gripping my hair. And I felt the warmth seep into my palm. Caspian's tone was heavy. He looked straight at me, “ Stop doing this to yourself, Cee. When did you start drinking for fuck sake? Look…look at yourself.” His face further smeared with confusion. “I’ve never seen her like this before.” Drayton sided. He tried

Circe's POV “If Xurion truly found that asteroid, then there should be a file… report or something… anything to prove it.”I muttered, searching through the drawers in Xurion's room. The atmosphere was still and gloomy like it could see right through me and it could feel the emptiness brewing in my chest. My breath bated out. My eyes sunked and tired from searching. “It has to be here. It has to be somewhere in here,” I flipped the bed and then searched the wardrobe. Each place I turn, every corner I search, refuses to provide what I seek. I wrestled with my hair, disheveling it.“I think I'm going crazy.” My voice is breathy and my head became heavy with continuous taps of headache.There. I blinked, taking in the surprise. I sauntered towards the bedside shelf, perusing through it like my life depended on what I was searching for. It did. And I wanted to get it back—my whole life.My hands shook as I picked the file on the shelves and I hoped it wasn't what I just saw.A divor

The dressers took tireless turns to adorn me like a nominated Disney princess about to attend the Oscars. The ankle length, red dinner dress, smeared my hourglass-figure like that was the mission the designer had in mind making it.
