LOGINJuliet stood frozen in her tiny apartment and the glittery corset strap still hung out of her bag like evidence. Mia stared at it, her eyes widened, and waited for an answer.
“Jules,” Mia said again, in a small voice. “Why does that look like the exact costume Luna wore in last night’s viral club video? Mind giving an explanation?” Juliet’s heart slammed against her ribs and she stepped forward then shoved the corset deeper into the bag, with her fingers shaking. “It’s not what you think, Mia.” Mia didn’t move. “Then tell me what it is because I saw the video too and everyone on campus saw it. The silver crystals, the pink straps, the way it fits. It’s identical.” Juliet zipped the bag fast and turned around. “I bought it online for a costume party. That’s all.” Mia’s face changed and she looked hurt. “A costume party? Since when did you start attending parties because you hate parties? You never go out except for that mystery waitressing job you won’t let me visit. And now you have a stripper costume in your bag? The one that's similar to Luna's” “It’s not a stripper costume,” Juliet said in a cracked voice. She hated lying to Mia. “It’s just… something I wear for fun sometimes. Private fun you know.” Mia took a step back. “Private fun? Jules, you’re shaking and your face is white. I’m not stupid and not a fool either. The video of Luna went viral yesterday with the same hair color under the lights, same body type, and now this shows up in your bag the very next day?” Juliet pressed her lips together. She wanted to tell the truth so badly it hurt but if she said one word, everything would collapse. Her school life, her grades, her mother’s medicine and Adrian. “Please,” Juliet said quietly. “Just drop it. I can’t explain right now. I've an afternoon class to attend.” Mia’s eyes filled with worry. “You’re scaring me. We’ve been best friends since freshman year and you used to tell me everything. Now you’re exhausted all the time, you’re hiding things, and you have a costume that matches a famous dancer. If you’re in trouble, let me help.” “I’m not in trouble Mia,” Juliet lied and she changed fast, then grabbed her bag and headed for the door. “I have class. We’ll talk later, okay?” Mia blocked the doorway for a second. “Later never comes with you anymore. Whatever this is, it’s bigger than you think. I’m here when you’re ready to stop lying.” Juliet nodded once and slipped past her. She walked fast across campus, and the bag felt heavier than usual. The lie from earlier sat in her stomach like rocks while Mia’s hurt face kept flashing in her mind. By the time she reached the lecture hall, the room was already half full. She took her usual seat in the third row and tried to breathe normally. Adrian walked in a minute later. He looked sharp in a dark button-up, and his sleeves were rolled up again. Their eyes met across the room for half a second and heat rushed through her body before she looked away. Today’s topic was already written on the board: Moral Gray Areas in Modern Literature. Adrian started the class without wasting time. “Today we talk about choices that live in the gray. Right and wrong blurred. Characters who know something will destroy them but do it anyway. Sounds familiar to anyone?” A few students raised their hands and Adrian called on a guy in the back row first. The debate grew fast, voices rose and some students argued that love excuses everything. Others said rules exist for a reason but Juliet stayed quiet, with her pen tapping against her notebook before her on a desk. Adrian leaned against his desk. “Miss Sinclair. You’ve been silent since the beginning of the debate. What do you think? When someone crosses a line they know they shouldn’t, is the pleasure worth the ruin?” Every head turned toward her and Juliet’s mouth went dry. She stood up slowly, on her unsteady legs. “Sometimes the line feels worth crossing,” she said. “Because the pull is stronger than the fear. But once you cross it, you can’t go back. Everything changes.” Adrian’s eyes locked on hers and the whole class seemed to disappear. His voice dropped, low and rough, and meant only for her even though everyone could hear. “Exactly,” he said. “The moment you choose it, you accept the consequences. The secret meetings. The stolen touches. The risk of losing everything. But you still reach for it. Because stopping feels impossible.” His words wrapped around her like hands and Juliet felt heat pool low in her belly again. She sat down fast, and her cheeks started burning. Adrian kept talking to the class, but his dark and possessive gaze kept returning to her and like he was saying more than the words. Class ended twenty minutes later and students packed up and left in groups, still arguing about the topic while Juliet stayed in her seat until most of them were gone. She needed to calm down before she faced the hallway. When she finally stood, she grabbed her bag and headed for the door. Adrian watched her the whole way but didn’t call her back. She slipped into the crowded hallway and let the noise swallow her. Halfway to the exit, her bag felt wrong. Something crinkled inside the front pocket. She stopped near the water fountain, pulled the bag open, and reached in. A small folded note sat on top of her books and her fingers trembled as she opened it. The handwriting was blocky and plain with no signature. “Stay away from Knight or everyone learns who Luna really is.” Juliet’s knees almost gave out. She read the note again, and slower this time. “Stay away from Knight or everyone learns who Luna really is.” One wrong move and her entire world would burn. She crumpled the paper in her fist and looked around wildly. Students walked past laughing and no one paid her any attention. But someone had slipped this into her bag and it's someone who knew both sides of her life. Her phone buzzed in her pocket and she pulled it out with shaking hands. When she checked, it was a new message from an unknown number. “Read the note yet, Luna? That was just a warning. Next time I will send proof.” Juliet shoved the phone and the note deep into her bag and her eyes stung. She blinked hard and kept walking, but the hallway felt like it was closing in. Mia’s words from earlier echoed in her head, the hurt in her voice, the costume and the viral video. Adrian’s voice from class still burned in her ears and about that dark promise. She had danced two extra sets last night to pay the bill. She had lied to her best friend. She had let herself feel something dangerous for her professor. And now someone was watching every single move, one wrong step and it would all come crashing down. She didn’t know how much longer she could keep the two worlds apart.Juliet stood in the hallway long after Adrian walked away. Her wrist still burned where his fingers had touched her and she could hear his words repeating in her head on loop.If you keep looking at me like that, I won’t be responsible for what happens next. She pressed her hand to her chest and tried to breathe normally. The ache between her legs hadn’t gone away. It only got stronger every time she remembered the way he looked at her, dark and hungry like he wanted to pull her into the nearest empty room and do everything he promised. She finally started walking again and her legs felt unsteady. Students passed her, laughing and talking about normal things and none of them knew her heart was racing or that her body was still reacting to a man she wasn’t supposed to want. Her phone buzzed in her bag. She pulled it out, hoping it wasn’t another threat and when she checked, it was Mia.“Hey,” Mia said when Juliet answered. “You ran out of class so fast. Is everything okay? You looked w
Juliet stared at the roses and the note in her hands. The handwriting looked too much like Adrian’s and her pulse wouldn’t slow down. She quickly stuffed everything into her bag before anyone else could see.“Or was someone playing a very dangerous game?” she whispered to herself. She left the club fast that night and went straight home. Sleep didn’t come easy and every time she closed her eyes, she saw the roses, the note, and Adrian’s face from class. The next morning, she dragged herself to campus. Her body still ached from the extra sets she danced. She kept her head down as she walked into the lecture hall for Literature class.Mia was already sitting in their usual spot and she waved Juliet over.“You look worse today,” Mia said as soon as Juliet sat down. “Did you even sleep? And don’t lie to me this time.”Juliet dropped her bag and rubbed her eyes. “I’m okay. Just that a lot is going on in my mind.”Mia leaned closer. “Is it still about that costume? Because I can’t stop thin
Juliet walked out of the lecture hall with the note still crumpled tight in her fist.Stay away from Knight or everyone learns who Luna really is.She shoved the paper deep into her bag and kept moving. The hallway was packed with students laughing and talking, brushing past her like nothing in the world was wrong. She kept her face blank, counted her steps and breathed. Her phone buzzed and when she checked, it was a message from her best friend, Mia.Mia: We need to talk. For real. After class?Juliet stared at the screen for a second, then typed back fast.Juliet: I can't tonight, I'm sorry I have to work. Probably tomorrow?Mia: This can't wait forever, Jules. She put the phone away without answering. Mia would have to wait. Everything would have to wait. Right now the only thing she could think about was the note and whoever had left it, and what they knew, and how much time she had before her whole life came apart. The rest of her classes were a blur. She sat in the back rows an

Juliet kept walking down the hallway even though her legs felt heavy. The gossip about Adrian still rang in her ears and Mia stayed right beside her, matching her steps.“You’re not fine,” Mia said. “You went white when those guys talked about Professor Knight. What’s going on? You can tell me.”Juliet stopped near the exit doors. Students pushed past them. She looked at her best friend and tried to keep her voice steady. “It’s nothing, okay. It's just rumors and you know people love to talk.”Mia crossed her arms. “Rumors about him messing up his last job over a student? That sounds like more than nothing. You had office hours with him today. Did he say something weird? Touch you? Anything?”“No,” Juliet said quickly. Too quickly. “He just talked about my paper and that's all. He’s a good teacher. That’s all.”Mia didn’t look convinced. She stepped closer and lowered her voice. “Jules, you’re my best friend. I see you skipping meals. I see you checking your phone like someone’s chasi
Juliet walked out of the Literature building with her bag slung over one shoulder. Her mind still spun from the messages and the way Adrian had looked at her in his office and she kept her head down and moved through the crowded hallway toward her next class.Mia caught up to her fats, linking their arms together. "There you are. I've been looking for you since morning. You disappeared after office hours. Spill it, what really happened with Professor Knight?"Juliet forced a smile. "There's nothing big. He just gave me feedback on my paper and said it was good but could be deeper."Mia raised an eyebrow. "Deeper? The way you said that sounds like more than paper talk. You look exhausted, Jules. Your eyes have bags. Did you even sleep last night?""I slept," Juliet said. She pulled her arm free gently and adjusted her bag. "The club ran late, that's all."Mia stopped walking and turned to face her. Students moved around them like a river. "Club? You mean that waitressing job won't let
