Emily’s POV

I curled into the bed, clutching the sheets around me as if they could protect me from the reality of my situation. No matter how much I tried to convince myself otherwise, I couldn’t ignore the truth: time was running out for me.

Lucas had been merciful enough to take me from the dungeons, merciful enough to give me warm water, food, and a guest room instead of leaving me to rot in the dark. But that mercy was a thin thread, one that could snap at any moment. He had made it clear that after the birthday celebration, my fate would be sealed. I would be sent back—or worse, sold off to Joe.

The name alone made me shudder. Joe, with his cold grin and greedy eyes. Joe, the man who had hovered over me at the auction, his breath reeking of alcohol. The thought of belonging to him made bile rise in my throat. If Lucas truly intended to hand me over, what chance did I have? How could I survive in the hands of someone like that?

I pressed my palms against my face, trying to muf

CLARISSE Pov I always thought losing Lucas would break me. But watching him walk away from me again did something worse.Ever since he dismissed me, I had been thinking of every possible way to remove Emily from the picture completely. I replayed every fight she caused, every moment she stole from me.And the more I thought about it, the more one truth became clear: If Emily was gone, Lucas would return to me.So, I refused to give up. I refused to watch my future fall apart because of a girl who didn’t deserve him. That was why when Joe attacked, I felt a bit of hope. His attack gave me the perfect opportunity. No one could blame me for what happened during an attack, right? If Emily died in the confusion, who would question it? Who would look at me?But I wasn’t an idiot. Lucas would never believe me if I walked up to him and said something more like: “Oh, sorry, Emily died during the explosion.”He would never swallow that so easily. He would investigate and interrogate every pers

EMILY’S POVThe moment the guards dragged me across the hallway, my body scraped against the cold floor. My arms throbbed where they gripped me, their fingers digging deep into my skin. I tried to twist, to pull away, and at least slow them down, but they handled me like a sack of grain.“Please,” I begged, breathless, “let me heal the others! Let me help the injured… I’ll heal every single one of them, just let me go!”They didn’t even look at me.The guards dragged me on and behind us, Clarisse spoke. “Don’t listen to her. She doesn’t make the rules anymore. I do.”My stomach turned. The Clarisse I knew, the overprotective, jealous, irritating but loyal sister was gone. What remained was something darker and hungry for control. The moment she saw me heal those soldiers, she changed. Now she gloated behind me, enjoying every second, enjoying the fact that I was helpless, that she finally had the upper hand over me.And she wasn’t letting go.Eventually the guards shoved me into a du

Emily's POV Karen held her arm around me protectively, as though she believed she could physically shield me from what was happening outside. Clarisse, however, looked more irritated than afraid. Even her fear came out as anger. Her arms were crossed tightly, her fingers tapping furiously against her elbows. My heart pounded painfully, each beat like it wanted to break through my chest. Then I saw a guard that had managed to crawl into the far corner of the room. He was barely breathing, blood pooling beneath him and dripping onto the floorboards. He wasn’t dead yet. But the gash in his abdomen was deep that I could see tissue and bone.“Oh my God,” I whispered, pushing forward.Karen grabbed my arm hard. “Emily, no. He’s not going to make it.”“We can’t just leave him there like that!” My voice cracked. “He’s suffering.”Clarisse scoffed. “He’s a liability. If he cries out and they hear him, we’re all dead.” She said it like it was common sense and I was an idiot for caring. The gua

  • SOLD AS THE ALPHA KING'S PET    CHAPTER 68

Emily’s POVThe moment Lucas left for his negotiation trip, I threw myself into wedding preparations as if my life depended on it. Part of me was doing it out of excitement but another part of me was doing it to distract myself from the fear that kept whispering in my ears that he might not come back.Karen stayed glued to my side, dragging me through catalogs, talking to florists, and helping me pick out decorations. Every hour was filled with decisions on flowers, fabrics, dresses and meals. I didn't even know planning a wedding could be so chaotic, especially on such short notice. But I wanted everything to be perfect for us.Clarisse, surprisingly, didn’t cause a scene. She didn’t talk much. She didn’t fight me or even argue. She only walked around with that permanent scowl on her face.Every now and then, she gave me one of those sharp stink eyes but every single time I ignored her.It never made me stop my preparations for our wedding and a few times, I made sure she heard thing

Emily’s POVI woke up reaching for him.My hand brushed over nothing but cold sheets. For a moment I lay there, staring up at the ceiling with a sinking feeling in my stomach. Lucas always woke up earlier than me, but the bed never felt this empty.“Lucas?” I called out as I sat up.A bit of unease crawled up my spine. I got out of bed and quickly made my way through the house, checking the kitchen, the living room, the hallway, and even the guest rooms. The last place left was the study.I pushed the door open slowly and sure enough, there he was.Lucas stood by the window, his back to me, one hand holding his phone to his ear while the other rested against the desk like he needed the support. He was talking softly, but the edge in his voice made my heart clench.I stayed silent until he finally ended the call. When he turned around, he gave me a small smile.“You’re awake,” he said.I crossed my arms, fighting the sudden wave of frustration washing through me. “Why are you working s

  • SOLD AS THE ALPHA KING'S PET    CHAPTER 66

Lucas’ POVBy the time I got home, I immediately spotted her.Emily was slouched on the couch, her head tilted against the armrest, eyes half-lidded with exhaustion. An untouched glass of water sat on the table, and her hair usually neatly brushed was now a tangled mess that framed her pale face. Her shoes were kicked off near the door, and the faint scent of alcohol lingered in the air.For a second, I just stood there, taking in the sight of her. Relief flooded through me that she was home, safe but then the worry set in again.“Emily,” I said softly, walking toward her. “Hey… are you okay?”Her eyes fluttered open at the sound of my voice, unfocused at first, then slowly finding me.“Lucas?” she whispered, her tone almost childlike.“Yeah, it’s me.” I crouched beside her, brushing a strand of hair off her cheek. “You scared us. Karen and I were worried sick. Where did you go?”Before she could answer, Karen appeared from behind, arms folded and concern written all over her face.“W
