LOGINEMILY'S POV
Morning came quicker than I expected. I had spent the whole night in tears, praying to the main goddess to save me from my hopeless situation, but nothing happened. Eventually, the door to my cell swung open. Two guards came in and seized me by my arms, before dragging me all the way to a secret chamber upstairs. When we got there, I was surprised to see that ten maids were waiting patiently for me. "Don't try anything funny," One of the guards warned, before stepping out of the room. As soon as they left, the maids started undressing me. I was shy, standing stark naked before them but from the expression on their faces, I could tell that they had gone through this procedure a thousand times. I wondered how many girls had been auctioned at Royal High before me. The maids led me to the bathtub where a warm bath had been prepared for me, and after twenty minutes of intense scrubbing, they led me to another tub, where I was made to lie in the fresh aloes scented water. Then, they dried me up with a towel and made my hair, fastening it with silver pins. Some light make up was applied on my face before I was dressed up finally, in a transparent silk gown. One quick look at myself in the mirror and I realized that my auction wasn't going to last very long. I looked perfect, and I knew that everyone in the auction room would be clawing at each other's throats to have me. A few minutes later, the door swung open and Lady Marigold walked in with the guards beside her. She clapped her hands in excitement as soon as she saw me and motioned for the guards to lead me away. "I knew you would be a star," She smiled. "I never doubted your potential." "You lied to me," I sobbed. The guards grabbed me and started dragging me away but she stopped them at once. "Careful with my prize now," She chided. "I don't want any mark on her skin." They led me straight to a large hall and once I was in, I gasped. There were over a hundred girls, just like me in the hall. Each of them had the same innocent look on their face, and the same fear in their eyes. We had all been deceived. "The auction is about to start," Lady Marigold hissed in my ears. "If you don't behave properly, we would not get a good bargain, and if we don't get a good bargain, we would not sell. I assure you that you would be better off with some Alpha than back at Royal High at the end of today." I stared hard at her. Tears were streaming down my cheeks already. There was not a single trace of emotion in her voice and I knew that she was damn serious. If I didn't get sold, I was going to die here. At exactly 10 am, the guests started pouring in. From all my lessons on nobles and commoners, I knew that most of them were mere commoners looking for slaves. However, a few nobles were in the crowd, and to my dismay, one was eyeing me already. Barely an hour into the auction and more than half of the girls had been sold already. The highest had sold for thirty five thousand dollars, and I shuddered at the thought of what I would be forced to offer to my buyer if I eventually sold for more. A few minutes past 12 noon, the master of the ceremony got a signal from Lady Marigold and he cleared his throat noisily. "Gentlemen," He started. "We have come to the peak of our auction for today. Our biggest prize is one you have never seen before. Fluent in four languages, with the voice of a nightingale and the beauty of a goddess." A murmur went up among the crowd immediately and all the while, my heart was pounding in my chest. The weird noble man still had his eyes fixed on me and I averted my gaze from him quickly. "Our deal of the day!" The MC announced. "Emily!" "Walk to the stage," Lady Marigold hissed in my ears. "Just the way I taught you in class." The hall fell silent as I cat-walked to the stage and stood beside the MC. I could feel hundreds of lust filled gazes on me. "The starting price for our deal of the day is a hundred thousand dollars," The MC announced. "Two hundred thousand!" A voice came from the crowd. I turned in the direction and I saw that it was the same noble who had his eyes fixed on me all the while. "Two hundred thousand dollars from Gamma Joe of the BlueVille Pack," The MC announced. When our eyes met again, I noticed that one of the slaves he had purchased earlier was whimpering, desperately trying to hold back tears, and when my gaze followed his hand, I saw that his fingers were inside her! I panicked at once. If he could treat her in such a way, right there in the presence of everyone, then I was in so much trouble. I spun around, my eyes pleading desperately for another buyer to show interest - anyone but the Gamma! Sadly, no one could meet his offer. "Sold!" The MC announced. Everyone clapped and cheered, but I remained motionless. My life was getting worse by the minute and there was nothing I could do to help myself. In the midst of my despair, I didn't notice it when the man walked in. It was the awkward silence in the hall that alerted me of his presence and when I looked up, our eyes met. "I want that one," He said. "Emily has been sold already, my Beta," The MC announced. "But we have many other beautiful ladies here. We have - " "I want Emily," He repeated. "I'm tripling the last offer." "Six hundred thousand dollars from Beta Chris of the BlueVille Pack!" The MC cried. "Sold! Final!" He banged his gavel on the table multiple times and instructed the guards to take me away with the Beta. "No need for that," Beta Chris smiled. "I can handle her myself." He held out his hand and I grabbed it desperately. I could still feel the Gamma's eyes heavy on me as we made our exit from the hall and I had a bizarre feeling that this was far from over. He led me to a black mustang parked just outside the building and a few minutes later, we were speeding down the highway. After a long drive, the car finally screeched to a halt at the gate of a mansion. We came down together, and he led me to the front door. Then, he rang the doorbell and turned to face me. "You're a beautiful young lady," He started. I felt my stomach churn as I realized where he was heading to. "My good friend needs a distraction and you're going to provide him with just that," He added. "Do you understand?" My cheeks drooped immediately. Beads of sweat had already started gathering around my forehead as we waited for his friend to open the door. Subconsciously, I grabbed his hand and he frowned at me. "Not the Gamma," I pleaded. "Anyone but him." He was about to say something when the door swung open. "Chris, I've told you already that I don't need your - " The man paused when our eyes met and he frowned. "Who's this?" "I don't know," Chris shrugged. "Whatever you want her to be. Just calm the fuck down and don't do anything stupid, okay?" Chris turned to me and smiled. "I can assure you that the Alpha would take good care of you." And with that, he spun around, and headed straight for his car, leaving me all alone with the Alpha of the BlueVille Pack.Emily's POV Karen held her arm around me protectively, as though she believed she could physically shield me from what was happening outside. Clarisse, however, looked more irritated than afraid. Even her fear came out as anger. Her arms were crossed tightly, her fingers tapping furiously against her elbows. My heart pounded painfully, each beat like it wanted to break through my chest. Then I saw a guard that had managed to crawl into the far corner of the room. He was barely breathing, blood pooling beneath him and dripping onto the floorboards. He wasn’t dead yet. But the gash in his abdomen was deep that I could see tissue and bone.“Oh my God,” I whispered, pushing forward.Karen grabbed my arm hard. “Emily, no. He’s not going to make it.”“We can’t just leave him there like that!” My voice cracked. “He’s suffering.”Clarisse scoffed. “He’s a liability. If he cries out and they hear him, we’re all dead.” She said it like it was common sense and I was an idiot for caring. The gua
Emily’s POVThe moment Lucas left for his negotiation trip, I threw myself into wedding preparations as if my life depended on it. Part of me was doing it out of excitement but another part of me was doing it to distract myself from the fear that kept whispering in my ears that he might not come back.Karen stayed glued to my side, dragging me through catalogs, talking to florists, and helping me pick out decorations. Every hour was filled with decisions on flowers, fabrics, dresses and meals. I didn't even know planning a wedding could be so chaotic, especially on such short notice. But I wanted everything to be perfect for us.Clarisse, surprisingly, didn’t cause a scene. She didn’t talk much. She didn’t fight me or even argue. She only walked around with that permanent scowl on her face.Every now and then, she gave me one of those sharp stink eyes but every single time I ignored her.It never made me stop my preparations for our wedding and a few times, I made sure she heard thing
Emily’s POVI woke up reaching for him.My hand brushed over nothing but cold sheets. For a moment I lay there, staring up at the ceiling with a sinking feeling in my stomach. Lucas always woke up earlier than me, but the bed never felt this empty.“Lucas?” I called out as I sat up.A bit of unease crawled up my spine. I got out of bed and quickly made my way through the house, checking the kitchen, the living room, the hallway, and even the guest rooms. The last place left was the study.I pushed the door open slowly and sure enough, there he was.Lucas stood by the window, his back to me, one hand holding his phone to his ear while the other rested against the desk like he needed the support. He was talking softly, but the edge in his voice made my heart clench.I stayed silent until he finally ended the call. When he turned around, he gave me a small smile.“You’re awake,” he said.I crossed my arms, fighting the sudden wave of frustration washing through me. “Why are you working s
Lucas’ POVBy the time I got home, I immediately spotted her.Emily was slouched on the couch, her head tilted against the armrest, eyes half-lidded with exhaustion. An untouched glass of water sat on the table, and her hair usually neatly brushed was now a tangled mess that framed her pale face. Her shoes were kicked off near the door, and the faint scent of alcohol lingered in the air.For a second, I just stood there, taking in the sight of her. Relief flooded through me that she was home, safe but then the worry set in again.“Emily,” I said softly, walking toward her. “Hey… are you okay?”Her eyes fluttered open at the sound of my voice, unfocused at first, then slowly finding me.“Lucas?” she whispered, her tone almost childlike.“Yeah, it’s me.” I crouched beside her, brushing a strand of hair off her cheek. “You scared us. Karen and I were worried sick. Where did you go?”Before she could answer, Karen appeared from behind, arms folded and concern written all over her face.“W
Emily’s POVI never thought I’d end up sitting in a bar, of all places.I’d passed this street a dozen times back when I came to visit Lucas at the hospital, but I never once looked inside the glowing red doorway that now called to me. I wasn’t raised to drink. Back in school, I was the quiet girl—the one who stayed out of trouble, who sipped juice at parties and left before midnight. But tonight, I didn’t want to be that girl. Tonight, I didn’t want to be anyone at all.My hands trembled as I pushed open the door. The heavy smell of alcohol and cheap perfume wrapped around me immediately. The bar wasn’t crowded, just a few people hunched over tables, the soft hum of music vibrating through the walls. I took a seat at the far end, away from the laughter and chatter, and ordered the first drink the bartender suggested. The liquid burned as it went down, but I forced myself to take another sip.I pressed my hand to my chest, trying to steady my breathing, but the ache only grew stronger
Lucas’s POVThe morning came in a flash. I hadn’t slept a wink because every time I closed my eyes, Emily’s angry voice echoed in my head. But maybe she was right. Maybe I deserved to die alone after keeping the truth from her.I was standing by the window, staring out into the early sunlight, when I heard footsteps behind me. Clarisse’s scent hit me before I even turned.“Lucas,” she said.I turned to face her. She looked calmer than usual, her hair brushed neatly, and she wore a pale blue dress that made her look innocent.“Can we talk?” she asked, stepping into the room.I sighed. “If this is about Emily, I’m not in the mood.”“It’s not,” she said quickly, walking closer. “It’s about us.”That made me turn fully to her. “Us?”Clarisse nodded. “Yes. I’ve been thinking maybe it’s time we stop fighting what’s meant to be.”My brows furrowed. “What are you talking about?”She smiled faintly. “A marriage between us, Lucas. It makes sense, doesn’t it?”I stared at her, stunned. For a m
